We held another #Fedora Installfest at the local university in #Brno today. In recent years, we have been dealing with fewer and fewer #Linux problems and more and more #Windows problems. Today, it was all "Fedora works fine for me, but I also have Windows in dual boot and VS Code there gives me an error when I try to compile."

Our trip from #Brno to #Prague and back (420 km) cost 300 CZK (€12) with #EV. A family (2+2) train ticket would cost 2000 CZK (€80). Sadly a no-brainer from a family budget perspective.

IMO individual transport with all its negative externalities shouldn't be so cheap compared to public transport.

When we visited the exhibition of the Museum of Public Transport in #Brno, I saw a #Škoda 100 and told my kids that my parents had it as their first car when I was as old as they are now. They looked at me in total disbelief. 😄

#Mapycz (now #Mapycom) from #Seznam use #OpenStreetMap everywhere except their home country - Czech Republic, where they have their own proprietary maps.
There have been rumours in the #OSM community that they actually copy from OSM. Today I found proof that they really do.
I mapped a new park in #Brno just by surveying and taking notes last year. Later the park showed up on Mapy.com with exactly the same path layout. The new orthophoto is out and it revealed that I didn't get everything right and Seznam got it wrong too. Exactly the same mistakes.

Not cool, Seznam.

Last 24 hours from our #AirQuality monitor. This is a typical day when you can already smell it. We live in a residential area on the outskirts of #Brno and in winter the air quality tends to be (sometimes much) worse than in the city center. All because of local heating systems that use wood and, to a lesser extent, coal.

A chart of PM 2.5 values for the last 24 hours. The lowest values are around 35, the highest values are around 60 which is already considered unhealthy.

There are numerous incidents like this one where airplanes get into troubles allegedly because of the GPS jamming, again allegedly, by Russia.

I am not so deep into aircrafts, nor GPS or wide scale jamming (it's set of satellites if I'm not mistaken, right?)

So is there anyone to explain how this can be done?

  • affecting single aircraft
  • hundreds (800 by guesstimate Kaliningrad vs Viena) of kilometers in EU
  • how come the divert to Brno, which is really nearby could solve the problem
  • how come the commercial lines are reliant on just GPS? What about Galileo system? What about all those others "legacy" and/or ground systems for aircraft navigation?

I hate big shopping malls. That's why I always need to find the best way to the business and back. #Mapycz and #GoogleMaps are useless for that. POIs are missing, wrongly placed or grouped in the middle of the mall.

But some shopping malls in #Brno are so well mapped in #OpenStreetMap that it can navigate me right to the business. And that even includes changing floors and using escalators. 👍

Interesting. I cycle around #Brno quite a lot and my experience is almost completely positive. I cannot recall a situation when a car driver endangered me. Most also try to keep a 1-1.5m distance if possible.
My worst experiences with aggression on roads are from Prague.
