I'm a big fan of RSS, so much so that I can't imagine reading my every day webpages and tracking changes without it. If Miniflux, or any other RSS reader is not lightweight enough for you, give github.com/thebigroomxxl/tinyf… a Go.

6 new CVEs in "rsync".

"In the most severe CVE, an attacker only requires anonymous read access to a rsync server, such as a public mirror, to execute arbitrary code on the machine the server is running on."

That would be CVE-2024-12084 (9.8) AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H, a heap-based buffer overflow in rsyncd.

Google’s Gemini AI just shattered the rules of visual processing — here’s what that means for you.
"Google’s Gemini AI has quietly upended the AI landscape, achieving a milestone few thought possible: The simultaneous processing of multiple visual streams in real time."
"...Imagine a medical professional showing an AI both live patient symptoms and historical diagnostic scans at the same time... "
- uh, do I want to? Keep AI far away from my medical records (I say that as I'm sure it's too late already.)

Internal Meta memo tells managers how performance-based job cuts will work
(This is a bit sad to me, because accessibility teams especially have to do a lot of comms with so many other parts of a company and so it's one of the least areas to have "underperformers" but this is often not as visible to leadership)

Next month I'll be talking about common dataviz accessibility mistakes and what we can do to prevent them, at Smashing Meets Accessibility ✨

I have tried both the above ISO, and the those found on Myabandonware, with the DOSBox fork "Boxer" without any success. myabandonware.com/game/barbie-… (MyAbandonware ISOs are said to be corrupted - the one from archive.org loads on my Mac, but Boxer says that it does not contain a DOS executable.) Any ideas? I am trying to get this working for a less tech-savvy friend, so I need the solution to not be TOO complex for an average Mac user to follow.

oof, best of luck. Really hope nothing bad happens to you or your team, fingers crossed with all this crap around defunding DEI, I always worry that it will branch out into accessibility teams because they see that as part of it, when in reality product accessibility and work inclusion are different areas. But we know the big-wig senior leaders can't distinguish that. And then we expect them to distinguish between knowing what compliance and usability are, ha ha.

I turned 40. My party was all the friends, the femmes, the theys and gays I have met along the way here in BCN for the last 6 years.

Our collective focuses and prioritizes Black and POC Queer and Trans folks. The bar? Queer and Trans owned. The decks? Ran by us. The vibe?? Set down by us.

There is something so amazing about POC Queer spaces, can never be replicated. It was amazing.

Some of mula will be going to local charities. IDK, I am blessed. Sexy, hydrated and blessed.

@matrix Hi, I have a question: How do I report a problem that I am facing if I do not know if it is the server or the client or where the problem occurs? It could be two different servers or clients involved....

The problem itself: I am part of empty room: People get kicked out of personal conversations with me and I get kicked out from their perspective, too.

I do not know why. A screenshot is attached.
Where would I start to report such behaviour?

PSA: With macOS 15 Sequoia (released in September 2024), Apple has started shipping openrsync (created by Kristaps Dzonsons, from OpenBSD) as an alternative to the original rsync (“tridge”, from the Samba project).

When you run “rsync”, a wrapper will inspect your command and dispatch to either /usr/libexec/rsync/rsync.samba or rsync.openrsync: github.com/apple-oss-distribut…

If you need one version over the other, select them explicitly — and probably rsync.samba will disappear eventually…

p.p.s. A lot of people asking how they can crosspost from Mastodon to Pixelfed. The answer is this:

You do not need to crosspost from Mastodon to Pixelfed. Your posts on Mastodon are already visible to people on Pixelfed, because Mastodon and Pixelfed are both part of the same social network.

(The same in reverse, posts on Pixelfed are visible to people on Mastodon.)

Some of the accounts you see on here are Mastodon, some are Pixelfed, some are other types, but you can follow all of them.

@rommix0 lol my favorite passage from it:
"One former senior member of the Alexa team said while LLMs were very sophisticated, they came with risks, such as producing answers that were “completely invented some of the time”.
“At the scale that Amazon operates, that could happen large numbers of times per day,” they said, damaging its brand and reputation."
Hopefully they'll keep the classic API around for a long time before pushing that big red button for everyone to switch to that new model.

Fixes for a critical rsync vulnerability (CVE-2024-12084) have been released for Stable/Bookworm, Testing and Unstable. Oldstable/Bullseye is not affected. Fixes for other lower severity CVEs have also been released in the same update and can all be tracked at security-tracker.debian.org/tr…. The fixed Stable version is 3.2.7-1+deb12u1 and the fixed Testing/Unstable version is 3.3.0+ds1-3
