The private company that is contracted to provide the tags has failed to fulfil the terms of its contract, but, instead of punishing the failing company, or even working on some sensible alternative (as if a 78-year-old is a flight risk, or danger to the public), for blatant political reasons, they punish her.

After my #CVSS blog post, what feels like two hundred persons have pointed out that the CVSS field is not mandatory in the CVE records. It is a clarification that does not add much. The reality is that users seem to want the scores so bad that CISA will add CVSS nonetheless, mandatory or not.
CVSS is short for Common Vulnerability Scoring System and is according to Wikipedia a technical standard for assessing the severity of vulnerabilities in computing systems.

sounds like a fair policy and helps to focus investigations and mitigations in more relevant findings. I would assume that a component defined as "legacy dependency". or system using it, is having more vulnerabilities and issues that should be addressed as well
While I fully agree with the notion, I think the wording might be open to interpretation. For a component to be considered "legacy" does it need to match all 3 of the things in the list or just one of them? Maybe some clarification can be added.
if it’s a supported version of the dependency then the issue should be reported to the dependency. If it’s not supported then there’s nothing for you or the dependency’s developer to fix.
Your conditions are such that there should be very few people affected. So it seems to me entirely reasonable, maybe there are exceptions you would encounter but you still have the ability to decide to do something in those exceptional cases.
I want to avoid the question "what is supported" because it is hard to keep such info up to date. So I try to find a line in the sand of what is definitely not used by anyone who cares.
sounds fair enough, if you want someone to maintain legacy stuff they should get paid / some sort of support contract be put in place. Also the upgrade route is free.
if the company I work for is doing this, they will keep doing it and insist it must be done for some stupid reason. If you issue a CVE about it, my company will be forced, due to required external audits, to stop doing this. So yes, making a CVE is a public good because it will call out poor practices more clearly and label them with a reason to stop that isn’t easy to ignore.

There were around 150k jobs for Jan 11th, it's almost through those. After that, there are only 4k jobs per day on average, meaning it will start processing a day every hour. I estimate it will start doing that around 1 or 2 pm CET today, so expect a lot of notifications start coming in after that. It should be all up-to-date around midnight (CET).

Not sure if the following has been part of information and discussion around here. Apparently there are several Nostr relays that bridge, with or without asking for permission, profiles to somewhere else.
Actually at least over here I also could create a positive list, restricting access to only predefined instances.
That said, the "asking for permission" is if some instance simply mirrors profiles "without asking for permission" each profile or instance it pretends to mirror or duplicate. This in any case is basically about good manners, not technical possibilities.
I didn't dig into some apparent nostr discussion itself but saw the possibility to register a profile for mirroring it. Well, actually the only way this could happen in a correct respectful manner is that a profile follows an account that than interpretates that following as a request or permission to be mirrored.
Not interested in supporting bluesky or disrespectful folks in any way so I guess this list comes kinda preemptive handy. 👍
