I live in Minneapolis but grew up in the quiet mountain town of Boone, NC, with a pathetic squat toad named Gregory Bovino. He’s grown up to be the pathetic Nazi toad in charge of ICE, and has come to my beautiful city to terrorize, torture, and murder my friends and neighbors. He is personally going door to door, so here’s some background on him and some things you can say if you see him to get under his skin.

His father used to run a bar called The Library Club in neighboring Blowing Rock. While driving drunk one night, his dad hit and killed a woman with his car. The ensuing financial problems forced him to sell his bar and ultimately caused his parents’ divorce. Greg will be sensitive about that so be sure to name drop “The Library Club.”

@jscholes haha, guess the only good thing about Speechplayer too is that it doesn't slur at high speech rates quite like Fred. Maybe that's why I like it though, not everyone does especially Fred, but it sort of reminds me of the time before they really broke Fred, in the Mac OS Tiger days. I've wanted to run an emulator of Tiger with sound just to have it, maybe now I won't really have to once I tune this further xD

So it's clear to me that a lot of sharpness on consonants came from the original phoneme tuning table, once I made the tools that identify spikes and corners inside phonemes it was a lot easier to target one and reduce it or spread the bandwidths out without really altering the sound's identity, just softening it. It's just countless moments of "oh no, words like fishing now sound like shishing gosh what happened."

New NVSpeech Update where I tried to rework the phonemes so they sound less sharp especially at sample rates above 11025, and probably failed. Everyone will hate it. But let's see.

Letters like "F" sound less like "clentched teeth" and I do think personally that it has made a difference, but all of this has taught me that everyone's ears are different and someone who thinks a sound is clentched teeth another will think it's not. So Sigh.
New settings added. Graduated Coarticulation, boundary smoothing between sounds, and Enable formant trajectory rate limiting. All of these have edit fields to customize, and they are all off by default.
If you hate the new phoneme table, you can always get V15 (change the link) and still have it. I might get a revolt after this one.

I'm not that account, but: no, a Mastodon client cannot retrieve more than 40 posts per API call. However, some Mastodon clients like mine, have the ability to pull down more posts using multiple API calls at one time. Even so, the home timeline can only pull a maximum of 800 posts backwards, regardless of any settings or features an app has, so if you have more than 800 posts coming in per week, that would explain it.

I think I'm prone to over-thinking/over-analyzing potential life choices sometimes.
Maybe I could do A, and then X can happen, or I could instead do B, and then Y can happen, but it is hard to know exactly how the future will play out, and, ultimately, either choice would be okay.
It isn't good to act without thinking, but going to the other extreme can also be detrimental.

@Melissa BearTrix ah, right, well i dunno, but maybe not. if not, that would turn out to be a real bummer, especially if the other two admins are willing & able to do it. it would be an important consideration for me in my endless agonising about which instance to use as my most comfy "daily" one.

btw, assuming you don't have access, it would be a perfect, albeit unhappy, illustration of my earlier concern:

Pripravujem grant a fakt by sa mi doň zišla taká organizácia.

CiviCRM je webový nástroj na správu vzťahov s členmi / podporovateľmi / kontaktmi. Napr. členské prihlášky, aktualizácia členov, prihlasovanie sa na podujatia, platenie za členstvo a iné poplatky, odosielanie vestníkov, prijímanie darov aj v rámci kampaní, nábor dobrovoľníkov a mnoho ďalšieho. Je to vskutku komplexný systém 😅

Ja ho používam v mojej organizácií Wikimedia EO / PreWiki.sk, a v slovenskom esperantskom hnutí.

@DavidGoldfield The BT Speak is the only notetaker I've used that I didn't become disappointed with because of its lack of capability or restrictions with what I could do with it or bugs, and the only one that can do a lot of tasks I would normally do on my laptop and not my phone. The BrailleNote Evolve might end up being another one but for now the BT Speak definitely seems like the best notetaker. I don't think the BT Speak could replace a laptop entirely for me, but it definitely partially replaces one.

For FOSDEM first-timers, it's good to wear the shoes that work best for a lot of standing and walking and can handle rain and some puddles (depending on the weather). These might not be the best looking shoes you have (or they might be) it just needs to be something that once you put on you won't have to think about until you take them off, which will probably be hours and hours later. I am bringing two pairs with very different weights and support styles to switch between.

Darn, that's a lot of icons still. Despite me thinking I'd hate mac, I now only have the default apps on my dock, which kinda serves like the desktop, but mostly for stuff that's opened. Thought I'd go back to my windows habits of like, way too many icons, but nope, I guess I just stuck with the whole arrangement. Just removed a few unnecessary apps I didn't need and that was it, then kept a few I can actually open via the dock and stuck with it, so now it's that thing I am just used to. Also, nothing beats a windows refresh, to be fair. Except a super fresh windows install, to cleanup the registry only to fill it up back again. :D

Also interesting to discuss the safety concerns of having exposed, fragile, solid copper data wires inside that enclosure, right next to those chonkin EV charger contacts at 230VAC... That Ethernet cable probably heads off into a comms rack where people are going to be handling the ends of cables, terminating, crimping, etc... without imagining that the other end is <2cm away from live contacts with zero isolation.

Email hosting in Canada.

- Obstacles: cost and know how
- People that don't want to pay for email.
- The internet monopolies that have worked hard on killing email (US based), and dump the market.
- Spammers that exist to ruin everything.
- Unfair competition from the Government: subsidizing foreign cartels instead of domestic solutions.
