#bugreport: when tapping on an attachment in #arcanechat and #deltachat, it asks me what app to open with, but it never works.
if i open this pdf with pdf reader, it opens an empty "null.pdf".
if i "save as ..." with #materialfiles, it throws an error, see screenshot.
however, long-pressing the message and "export attachment" works just fine.
i report the issue here because i recently deleted my #gitslop account. ✨💩

#ArcaneChat is just a #DeltaChat client, my main user is... wait for it... ME! so it is basically Delta Chat with some tweaks to my taste, I shared it and it turns out some other people seem to like it, according to the #GooglePlay downloads it is mainly used in #Russia, #Cuba, #USA, #Iran, #Germany and #India
I don't actively try to convince people to use it, and in general it is better to push for DC that is multi-platform, then in #android some might prefer AC as their DC client

Ich habe noch mehr #Google APPs gefunden,
selbst der dämliche Wecker war von Google aber ich sollte nun alles mögliche gelöscht/deaktiviert haben. Dafür habe ich viele gute #opensource APPs gefunden. Meist ähnliche oder identisch zu ihren Google equivalent, meistens bieten die Open source Varianten sogar mehr features. Ich hab jetzt vpn, DNS sever mit firewall, APP blocker & nutze #ArcaneChat
Fazit: umstieg auf #F-droid / Open Source lohnt sich.

#ArcaneChat doesn't have delivery receipts, only read receipts, the only automatic responses the app does in your behalf is to handle invite links, for that to be abused you first have to share your invite link with a malicious contact, you can get in contact with random/public entity via their invite link and be safe, as long as it is not you the one sharing your invite link!
In #Signal / #WhatsApp as soon as you contact someone or they guess your number you are vulnerable

@pvagner looks interesting but it is 12 euros per month, with that money I could get two VPS in other providers which would actually be more resilient than having a single VPS, #ArcaneChat will have multi-transport support per profile which means users will be able to use two different servers at the same time in case one goes down etc
is there any VPS provider more chad than #Contabo ?? arcanechat.me VPS went down today, the VPS will simply fail to start from the Control Panel, this WAY TOO OFTEN happens during weekends or holidays, their status page says nothing about any problems or maintenance, and if you try to write to support they will tell you "sorry it is weekend, your message will not even be stored" so I guess arcanechat.me will be down the whole weekend >

that is why I don't like people recommending moving from #WhatsApp to #Signal, better use messengers that don't depend on US servers and companies, like European messengers like #ArcaneChat
@maple #ArcaneChat is an android client for #DeltaChat, and Delta Chat is available for #iOS, #Windows, #Linux etc.
and now that you talk about young people, in several places people are not even allowed to get a SIM card at all until certain age, so apps like Signal that depend on phone numbers are a non-go, while I have seen several people using DeltaChat with their children, ex:

Are you using chat over traditional email as provided by #DeltaChat / #DeltaLab / #ArcaneChat?
I like it uses traditional email infrastructure, is federated, supports end to end encryption, rich content including audio / voice messages. I have even recognized @adb has implemented screen reader accessibility specific features into the android app.
However I have quickly tried electron based app on linux with orca screen reader, exchanged a few messages back and fort between two of my personal accounts using the DeltaChat app and thunderbird and I haven't found the user experience verry appealing. I can't understand how to effectivelly navigate in the list of conversations and list of messages.
Therefore I would be interested to hear a few comments from people knowing this platform better. How accessible is it on different platforms?
On the desktop is the electron based app a prefered choice?
Also some other questions. For the best experience, do I need a new email address or can I use my existing self-hosted one I have already configured in thunderbird?
Ffeel free to point me to a FAQ, some up to date introductory documentation if you think my questions don't make much sense please.
