It's not long until the 1st of June, so why not pick up the guitar and learn some catchy tunes for the summer? I've just published version 7.0 of Fretboard, which brings more accurate chord name prediction, note names on hover for the neck top toggles, and a couple of fixes for various small issues encountered since last release. It should be on Flathub very soon!

This is Fanta Bourama by Djelimady Tounkara. Considering the above statement, he's mixing in so many styles in this, from #flamenco to jeli ngoni-innspired melodies to #jazzy chromaticism, with immaculate technique and flair, and he makes it all sound effortless. He used to be in the legendary Rail Band before going solo, and is rightfully considered an African #guitar hero. Though not as famous—globally-speaking—as Ali Farka Touré (who occasionally played with the Rail Band’s competition, Les Ambassadeurs), he’s of that same generation of musical pioneers.

Oh hell! Have Mansa as well; an atmospheric and expressive instrumental track progressing to a danceable groove.

Problem. When I joined the Almendros, I joined to play trumpet. I've been a #guitar player for a while, but here, like everywhere, has 1,000,000 guitar players, many substantially better than me, but very few #trumpet players. So, I figured, I could carve a little niche as a brass player. Setting up for practice and gigs was super easy. Showed up with my trumpet case, played, packed up - done!
However, our main lead guitarist has been phasing out, so after I joined, it was, "Kemi, can you learn this guitar part? Kemi, can you play a guitar solo here?" Didn't really like the tone of the guitar I was using, so I went out and bought one (Les Paul copy in the photo).
Then I wanted a new amp. Then I wanted new pickups. Then I thought, "I should get a better mic for my trumpet." Then I got another trumpet mute. Now I want ANOTHER new amp. And another guitar, why not. And a sax.
So now I got G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) real, REAL bad. Why was I never warned? I blame you all
#AudioMo: I present a 21-minute medley from my gig last Sunday in The Camden Club in London.
A Grenadian singer called Jonathan first performed one of his own tracks, then segwayed into a variety of other tracks, all whilst the house-band consisting of drums, bass, guitar and keys, kept the music going. Jonathan was also joined by a variety of other singers throughout the recording.

A fusion of an Irish #bouzouki with a Selmer-Maccaferri design D-hole (grande bouche) gypsy jazz #guitar. The #instrument varies in that it has a solid white cedar top, extra cutaway (making it a two-pointer), and a scale length of 674mm (26.54 inches). Well, and the Irish bouzouki setup with unison courses (in GDAD tuning). For the rest it's pretty much like the original 1930s design; down to ladder bracing and degree of curve in the front and back. And yes, the original laminated back and sides thing that created that distinctive gypsy jazz guitar sound; made famous by Django Reinhardt and his contemporaries.
The instrument is very resonant and dynamic, so the sound sample is me improvising something to showcase that. It was recorded in Logic with a Blue Snowball (cardioid condenser mic) and no editing whatsoever. 1/2
PS. photo coming eventually.
Lots of quiet singing and harmonies and guitars with some unexpected turns perhaps, and who doesn't LOVE describing themselves? I'm grateful to anyone who checks out my music, thanks a bunch. If you buy anything be sure to use the coupon code "mastodon" (no quotes).
