Dream come true yesterday!
I got to talk to a packed room of normal (non technical people) at the local library about how important it is to upcycle computers, and how Linux can save the world in this respect.
Thanks to all the people who showed up, supported, donated laptops and listened. We even gave away 9 free laptops at the event.
Library said it was the most well attended event they've had! So will be many more of these in the future. :)

#COSMIC is not even out of alpha and there's lots of #accessibility features already available!
There's more work to be done, for sure, but this is a very nice to see!
I just sent patches to port #COSMIC to #AlpineLinux[1], so it'll soon[2] be possible to install this promising new DE on a few of the hundreds of ARM and x86 things that #postmarketos supports!

For eight years Fedora has been shipping GNOME with a broken screen reader!
EIGHT YEARS!
(Wayland has been default on Fedora for eight years – since Fedora 25, released in 2016.)
And a hundred-billion-dollar corporation like IBM ships operating systems today based on it with a broken screen reader.
What is an ableist culture? One in which the people who call this out get ostracised.

I am unfollowing @aral@mastodon.ar.al. No matter my disagreements with GNOME folks in the past, COSMIC and GNOME are going to end up with the same accessibility backend, @accesskit, developed by the amazing @matt@toot.cafe.Fosstodon
This is kinda a technology preview in order to see if we can ship features like this enabled by default in a lot more apps in the ecosystem.
Thus I'd be very super happy if you'll try it on lots of hardware - be Intel/AMD laptops or ARM64 devices (with V4L2 stateless decoders, such as most #LinuxMobile devices).
Chances that you really hit a zero-copy path are highest with a recent #Wayland compositor - i.e. if you are using #GNOME46, #kde6 or a recent version of #sway, #weston, #cosmic etc.
