What I would change if I got to use a time machine?
I would join the meetings where they decided SIGPIPE was a good idea and talk them out of it.
Meanwhile, we have now added 4 lines of code for every line of code still remaining in #curl
This means that on average, every single line of production code has been touched four times. Written once, then updated three more times. And yeah, some lines of course many more times than average, and some less so.
is there some script or tool to generate that from any git repository?
I really like all the different random metrics you post btw :)
@littlefox my script for counting this is not a stand-alone one, but is the combination of three (or four). So a little complicated:
1. count the number of lines of code
2. count the number of added lines
3. make a plot based on plot 2 / plot 1
4: graph the results with gnuplot

Food on the table while giving away code
I wrote this five years ago, but still explains decently how I (try to) also eat, while giving away everything I write.

I founded the curl project early 1998 but had already then been working on the code since November 1996. The source code was always open, free and available to the world.daniel.haxx.se
because I get the question so often, I decided to try to document the intent:

"taking an OpenSSL public API and attempting to trace the implementation to see how it is implemented has become an exercise in self-flagellation"
"...we will no longer require OpenSSL implementations for new functionality."
Let that message sink in.
I'm using OpenSsl from #Rustlang , but only by calling its main program as a process. The performance is more than good enough for now.
Also I've become quite fond of #pyca for its X.509 support.
So I'll keep a close eye on pyca's next steps.

in reply to daniel:// stenberg:// • • •I'd be interested in a -v on this.
What's the issue with it? How would you design it instead? Just close the fd and be done?

in reply to scy (not @ 39C3) • • •the main problem is the *signal*. Signals are super annoying when doing layered software, when doing threads and more. Ignoring signals is expensive (and annoying for a library).
I would leave it as just an error when doing I/O. Like so many other errors that can occur.
