He was the most demanded speaker on college campuses--he did not have to con his way onto campus to speak and nazis and counter-protesters did not follow his appearances---You know, despite the fact that he was a white christian man promoting christian values to the general public.
Every generation since the 1968 has been positively impacted by Mr Rogers.
Even children in the past 20 years are benefiting from his legacy at PBS --his methods and messages are STILL used in children's programming around the world.
No one had to mandate mourning his death because we all actually felt a genuine loss when he passed away. Even grown adults, who had not watched his show for 10 years by the time he passed, felt a piece of genuine goodness leave the planet.
We did not have to be Christian with Mr Rogers for him to do so much for us.
He never asked us to be Christian with him.
He only asked us to be his neighbor.

Anyway, @whitequark drew an interesting contrast between Calibre adding AI conversations and KeePassXC allowing slopcode in the repo.
KeePassXC accepting slopcode calls their expertise into question, raises the question as to whether the code in KeePassXC will be up to the par required for security-sensitive software. But you could imagine a world that is very much so not ours in which AI works, can be trained ethically, and does not boil the ocean; a world in which KeePassXC's use of AI code isn't questionable at all.
By contrast, Calibre adding "AI conversations" with books fundamentally alters the relationship that users, presumably readers!, have with the works in their libraries.
Of course, as an author, you can't ever stop someone from doing whatever they want with copies of your book. The impulse to do so is toxic af and leads to shit like DRM. That doesn't obligate you to *help* anyone do any specific thing with your books, though.
Here, Calibre, in one release, went from a tool readers can use to, well, read, to a tool that fundamentally views books as textureless content, no more than the information contained within them. Anything about presentation, form, perspective, voice, is irrelevant to that view. Books are no longer art, they're ingots of tin to be melted down.
Some people will always do that with books. It's why Cliff Notes was profitable back in the day, and it's why in some crowds, AI is popular now.

I am thinking of moving to Linux but problem is I don't have the correct tec. Not only that, but multiple different versions that have different pros and cons along with different compatibilism and no together.
Possibility, I might need two separate computers. The other issue is I have no experience in necessary setup awareness. Perhaps Pop! for games and creativity, another for other purposes. So I'm very unaware and unprepared to migrate to more PC safety needs.
Test out various distros in your browser. Not an exhaustive list, but covers a decent number of the mainstream distros. Might help some folks make that final step away from Windoze/Mac.
When moving an email to a folder, the list of folders (and their subfolders) now appears in REVERSE alphabetical order, Z-A, with the usual "default" folders in reverse order at the bottom.
The user is presented with the folder list in one orientation for navigation, but the reverse orientation when moving an email. WTF?
Perhaps I've not seen an option to apply (or change) some setting for this? 🤷♂️

📱 Hlavní profil: jen FOSS aplikace. Čistota, minimalismus. 🛠️ Pracovní profil: WhatsApp, navigace, sportovní apky — prostě věci, které by mi hlavní profil zbytečně „zašpinily“.
💰 Bankovní profil: jen banky. Jo, mám na to celý profil. Ano, je to přesně tak extrémní, jak to zní.
A teď jen čekám, jak dlouho tohle digitální odříkání vydržím, než mě něco donutí založit čtvrtý profil… nebo to prostě prdnu všechno zpátky na hlavní. 🤣 #grapheneos
@michal Já mám Grapheneos asi 5 let, už jsem ho zkoušel na pixelu 2xl, ale začal používat od pixelu 4a. Ty profilu už jsem měl, jen mi pak vadilo to přepínání. Jen říkám si, když je Google play v sandboxu, tak moc tech úniků asi nehrozí. Novy stroj nemám, stále jsem na Pixelu 8 Pro
@babaq Já už jsem to i podobně měl, jen mi to pi čase to přepínání přestalo bavit. Myslím, že Grapheneos je bezpečný i bez profilů, ale ted se mi to líbí jak to mám nastavené. To ještě na každém profilu běží VPN s jinou IP 😃😃
já kvůli práci potřebuju pracovní profil (tedy jestli chci mít na telefonu pracovní věci) – chová se to na GrapheneOS stejně, jako na Androidu? a narazil jsi na nějaké aplikace, které by na tom vůbec nefungovaly? kdysi tuším někdo říkal, že na GrapheneOS nefunguje Revolut…
@Jann Co vím, tak české banky fungují bez problémů. Revolut taky funguje v pohodě. Já NFC nepotřebuji, platím Garmin hodinkami. Jinak NFC by mělo fungovat přes Curve, ale nezkoušel jsem.
Druhý profil jestli se chová na GrapheneOS stejně jako na Androidu? Na čistém Androidu jsem to nezkoušel, ale myslím, že tam má GrapheneOS pár věcí navíc. Jedu na GrapheneOS už fakt dlouho a zatím jsem neměl problém s aplikacemi. Funguje i Android Auto, přes kabel i Bluetooth. @babaq
Přídávám do vlákna @nacelnik01 @archos @Jann @babaq Já mám na svém GOS jeden hlavní profil bez 2 aplikací všechny z fdroidu. Na YouTube když se chci zrelaxovat shortama tak jedu přes Vanadium. Ani jinou službu google vlastně nepotřebuji.
@Milu Já v práci potřebuju WhatsApp, Dropbox a ještě jednu německou aplikaci, kde mám všechny zakázky. S tím nic nenadělám, bohužel. Bez Google Play nefungují ani některé banky. Zrovna včera jsem koukal na video, kde vývojář GrapheneOS říká, že jediný problém jednoho profilu je to, že třeba bankovní aplikace můžou vidět, jaké další aplikace používáš. Jinak je to v podstatě jedno — Google Play běží v sandboxu, takže na GrapheneOS nemá systémová práva jako na běžném Androidu. Nemůže šmírovat telefon, nemá přístup ke kontaktům nebo k souborům, pokud mu je nedám, a nedostane se k žádným datům mimo svůj vlastní prostor. Celé to funguje jako normální aplikace bez speciálních oprávnění. @nacelnik01 @Jann @babaq
A chci se zeptat, existuje nějaký ,,jednoduchý " způsob propojení XMPP a Wocasu? (Whatsapp). Manžel říkal, že by to snad přes gajim mělo fungovat. Propojit nějaký server či co. Ale raději se ptám i odborníka 😊
@Milu Já moc velký odborník nejsem. Na Oscloudu máme na MXChatu most s WhatsAppem. Teď už je i šifrovaný. Volání přes mosty nejde a aplikace stejně musí být v mobilu, protože se občas musí spustit, ale díky mostu nemusím mít WhatsApp na hlavním profilu.
Pro XMPP žádný takový most neznám, ale asi něco existovat bude. @nacelnik01 @Jann @babaq
@Milu @nacelnik01 @Jann @babaq z rychlého hledání vidím, že bridge existují, takže nějak to půjde. Ale bude to muset podporovat tvůj jabber/xmpp server a nevím co je třeba dalšího. Tzn. ptej se admina svého serveru.
Jestli si admin ty, tak rychlý kagi :D ukazuje Slidge nebo whatsxmpp.
@Jann @babaq Podle mě lidi co chtějí Curve používat jako řešení pro NFC platby vyměknou a nakonec do hlavního profilu ty GoogleServices dají. Aspoň mě zatím nikdo nepřesvědčil, že to jde jinak.
Platit hodinkami nebo prstenem je imo další použitelný workaround. Sám nepoužívám, ale vím že to tak někteří řeší.

Pro představu: sepárátní profil je jako když máš v počítači jiný uživatelský účet a přepínáš se mezi nimi. Když chceš mít věci opravdu oddělené je to super, ale přepínání je trochu otravné. Proto mám třeba profil "socky" pro sociální sítě, na které občas z mobilu potřebuju vlézt, ale nechci je v normálním profilu. Nechuť přepnout do jiného profilu celkem funguje jako omezovač nadužívání :)
@babaq Revolut nefunguje náhodně kde chce. Třeba mě nejede na FairPhone 5 (čistý OS, žádná custom ROM). Půl roku v kuse jsem zkoušel řešit s podporou a pak jsem si uvědomil, že v takové firmě fakt nechci mít peníze. Jen je průser, že nevím jak je odtam dostat :D
Ale je divný, že mně na Fairphone 5 Revolut jde. Jinak ta podpora je tam děs. Já už mám teda Revolut od roku 2018 řešil jsem jen jeden problém. Němci mají N26, je to německá internetová banka podobná Revolutu.Jen nevím jestli zasílají karty do ČR @babaq

Každopádně dotaz - máš na tom FP5 odemčený bootloader nebo ne? Ten AI agent v mailu totiž tvrdil, že s odemčeným bootloaderem to nejde nainstalovat. Ale já měl teda doteď za to, že Google Play vůbec netuší stav zamknutí bootloaderu. Kromě toho, že je jim po tom prd.
Ještě je řešení s GoogleServices v PrivateSpace. Hlavní/owner profil zůstane FOSS/deGooglizovaný a appky co potřebují GSF (typicky aplikace co mají uvnitř mapy.. třeba Uber) si pustíš bez přepínání do jiného profilu jen když je potřebuješ.
@ruza Já vím, jen jsem chtěl chvíli vyzkoušet profily. Nemyslím si, že je nějaký velký zásah do bezpečnosti nebo soukromí používat jeden profil i s Google Play. Na GrapheneOS je Google Play jen obyčejná aplikace v sandboxu, nemá žádná systémová práva ani přístup k datům ostatních aplikací. Takže pokud člověk nechce řešit více profilů, je úplně v pohodě používat všechno v jednom. Jako je to jen můj názor, můžu se mýlit.

@yo @modulux antiguaya o no, yo voy con el equipo httpd siempre. Echo de menos alguna cosa, como hacer proxy directo de tcp o soporte para http3. De lo demás, ni una queja.
@yo Yo tengo que reconocer que sigo usando apache httpd (creo que se llama así ahora?) porque no me apetece aprender el sistema de configuración de otro servidor web. Pero dicho esto, me da resultados perfectamente satisfactorios.

Včera jsem chtěl vybrat z německého účtu 200 Kč v Airbank bankomatu. Za dvě kilča, chtějí 160 korun poplatek a kurz 22.20 za euro. Nenažranci, už aby u nás bylo euro.
Souhlasím. Ale jenom pro úplnost, nenažrané nejsou jen české banky. Chtěl jsem naopak onehdy v zahraničí vybrat trochu hotovosti z účtu v AirBank a bankomat požadoval skoro stejně velký poplatek jako píšete vy, 6 €. Ale naštěstí pomohlo jít ke konkurenčnímu bankomatu o pár set metrů dál a tam nechtěli za výběr vůbec nic (účet byl eurový a výběr taky eura, takže směna nebyla třeba).
@minimax Ano vím, v Německu i výběr u jiné banky je s poplatkem 6 euro 😏 Já se vrátil pro kartu Revolut a vybral u Spořitelny, taky bez poplatku. Je to děs
za trest by sis u airbank mohl zdarma otevrit ucet, nechat si zdarma poslat kartu, pak tam zdarma sepa platbou posilat eura, ty si menit zdarma(?) na koruny a pak zdarma vybrat. sice by to trvalo asi tak 14 dni, ale zdarma a to jim ukaze!
@u taky jsem to historicky tak měl a nadával jsem jako špaček, když byla silná koruna. Bohužel si myslím, že na EURO si prostě počkáme... Tahle banda s tím nic dělat nebude a ODS se do toho taky moc nehrne...
bývalý kolega tak přišel o velkou část úspor. Když jsem byl v SAE, fasovali jsme diety v USD. Ve "vrcholné" době byl dolar za cca 45 Kč. No, a po 11/9 to začalo klesat. Já to nechal vyměnit hned, takže ztráta minimální, on čekal, že se to zase vrátí... nevrátilo 🤷
@archos@arch-linux.cz @donbahno @jan@dytrych.cloud @u No jasně, ale problematika Eura v Česku má 2 části: 1) přijetí eura českým státem, s tím teď fakt nelze počítat ještě hodně dlouho; 2) využívání eura českými lidmi a firmami, no a tady myslím probíhá setrvale celkem jednoznačný vývoj. Například banky hlásí rychlý růst nových euro účtů, euro karet. Konečně taky máme i možnost spoření v eurech s relativně slušným úrokem. Přesné statistiky nejsou, ale odhad je, že nejméně 35 % finančních transakcí v ČR probíhá v € a ne v Kč. Od nákupů potravin za hranicemi přes nákupy na německém Amazonu a dalších e-shopech až po velké transakce mezi firmami. Díky Fialově vládě mohou firmy vést i účetnictví v €, což využívá – a v daném politickém kontextu je to velký bizár – i Agrofert.
@GuloGulo Já mám jen německý účet, v ČR účet nemám. Normálně používám Revolut. Ani v ČR běžně nevybírám, ale šel jsem si koupit kuře a nebrali tam kartu, a měl jsem u sebe jen německou kartu.
Jde o to, že si účtují kurz skoro o tři koruny horší a ještě k tomu chtějí poplatek. Jaký by byl rozdíl, kdyby cizinec potřeboval vybrat 2000? Určitě nepůjde běhat po městě a hledat jiný bankomat. Je to prasárna. Spořitelna byla alespoň bez poplatku.“**
Chápu, nevím jak často jezdíš do ČR. Já když jedu do Německa, taky mám hotovost, stejně jako do jiných států, prostě nouzové minimum.
Jo a kámoš co mi tu likviduje zásoby karibskeho rumu říká "ať nebulí když má německý plat, vystudoval zdarma u nás, daně cpe Němcům, žije určitě u nás někde u hranic" 🤣 On bytostně nesnáší pendlery .... To ten rum, tak si to tak neber. PS: jo, "české" banky jsou zloději, navíc zisk jde pryč z ČR, proto ani hlavní banku nemám českou...
