Asi překlep, já Linux od 1999 a ne 1998. Každopádně jsem prvních několik let měl dualboot s Windows 95, 98 a XP, hlavně kvůli hrám. Po skončení s poslední hrou (moje amatérské pokusy o létání v MS Flight Simulatoru 😬) jsem už neviděl důvod mít paralelně Windows, tak jsem to přeinstaloval a od té doby už jen čistě Linux. To byla i doba, kdy už pro Linux bylo dostatek her.
Mandrivu jsem nikdy nezkoušel, a to jsem proskákal docela hodně distribucí.

Já měl Arch rád, byla to moje nej distribuce, než se staly 2 věci.
1) zrušili archovské bootování a ukončování systému, kdy se jednoduše do dvou textových souborů napsalo, co se má při bootování spouštět za drivery atd, při ukončování podobně. Bylo to elegantní a jednoduché. Důvod: sjednocení s ostatními distribucemi.
2) po jednom updatu (přes pacman) už jsem nespustil desktop a nevěděl jsem jak vrátit změny. Od té doby se vyhýbám "rolling distro" nebo jak se tomu říká.

Já už u většiny programů ani poslední verze nevyžaduju, všechno je už jiné než dřív, Linux je dospělý včetně desktopů a základních programů. Browser tahám nejnovější z externího repozit. Těch pár programů, které chci mít v Debianu novější, tak beru buď z backports (repozitář vybraných programů z příští verze Debianu, sestaveny aby byly kompatibilní s knihovnami stabilní verze Deb.) a nebo lze jednotlivé balíčky tahat přímo z budoucích verzí (což někdy jde bez konfliktů).

I've read it here already, so chances are you did as well. It is true: I will make Papers – the soon-to-be default document viewer in GNOME – work on mobile, while improving the UI in general.

I'm granted a #gsoc stipend to work on Papers – together with my mentor @pabloyoyoista. We looked into some things today, already.

I'm excited to make Linux on Mobile a viable alternative for more people. But probably you knew that already, from my other involvements.

Tot nu toe was de #bezetting van de #Universiteit #Gent erg rustig. Voor vele #studenten was dit de eerste keer dat ze een daad van #burgerlijkeOngehoorzaamheid stelden, maar ook de eerste keer dat ze #directeDemocratie gebruiken.

Naast studenten, waren er ook personeelsleden en professoren van de #UGent die hun steun komen betuigen, maar ook studenten en personeel van #HoGent en #Artevelde zijn langsgekomen om hun steun te betuigen aan zowel de bezetting van de UGent als de eisen.

En daarnaast is er ook buitengewoon veel persaandacht!

Uiteraard is de #VRT langsgekomen (vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2024/05/06/10…) , maar ook The Guardian (theguardian.com/world/article/…) en Al-Jazeera (aljazeera.com/gallery/2024/5/7…) brachten nieuwsartikels over ons.

We are the #students in the #occupation of the #Ghent #university ! The occupation is organized by two organisations: Ghent Students for Palestine (facebook.com/people/Gent-Stude…) and End Fossil Ghent (linktr.ee/endfossil_gent)

We started the occupation last monday, to ask the #UGent to divest from both Israel and #fossil fuels and are planning to stay until they've done both!

You and I need to sit down some time and you teach me more of your own technique like we did with automation, I need to figure out how to make future bass. I can probably? Design a patch from scratch in Surge myself, it's overwhelming but it's all there and I think I know enough of the sound fundamentals involved, just not the effects. Although did you use the FM oscs or inter-osc FM?

In Europe, flying is cheaper than taking the train.

It's an embarrassment, and a major problem: we have to stop flying for silly short distances. Realise that the overheads of flying (reaching the airport, awaiting 2 hours, the flight, the unloading, reaching the destination) largely cancel out any time gains of flying. And the carbon costs are utterly untenable. Not to speak of the modern, dire conditions of the whole flying "experience".

Another embarrassment is that train connections can't be guaranteed when across countries or companies. They aren't even coordinated. As if those who commission and set the schedules didn't travel by train themselves, at least not internationally. In considering how tiny most European countries are, it's frankly bizarre.

There are so many destinations one could travel by train to, yet in practice, it's not sensible. A disgrace.

The upside is that it can be fixed.

@RaffKarva Water (and other similar utilities, like electricity / internet / TV cables) are somewhat different, because you can't just lay new pipes / cables without government approval, and even if you could, it would be far too expensive. If one monopolist owns all the pipes and no other competitor can realistically lay more, there's nothing stopping the monopolist from raising the prices beyond all reason. This is why I'm not opposed to the government owning train track, undecided on them owning stations and related infrastructure, but definitely against public ownership of the actual trains and railroad companies themselves.

There is a prevailing belief in Poland that private is good, public is bad.

This has nothing to do with the reality and it stems from post communist attitudes.

If you want to see the true difference between private and public operations look at English vs Scottish Water companies.

Or German public trains vs English private trains.

Private companies have only one goal - to sell cheap products & services for as much money as possible.
