If this should happen, they would need to pick a new address from us.

Which music streaming services do you guys use, and why?
in reply to Mariia Sydoruk

None. I am not subscribed to any, but used to use Spotify and Apple music before. Spotify is everywhere and accessible, Apple just because I have everything Apple. But I am subscribed to Netflix so.
in reply to Mariia Sydoruk

Apple because I have a family plan, Spotify because it works with Alexa here, and I can get it for cheap as a student. I'm doing a lot more Spotify than Apple these days.

Buenos días. Sigo de permiso.

Hoy no llueve en Santiago. Diluvia.

in reply to Juan CBS

How to out compete any major tech vendor right now: work in the same space as their core products - but just don't put anything AI in the product.

They're all so distracting tickling their own bollocks with AI right now they've completely lost focus on their core products and real customer needs.

The Release Candidate (RC) of NVDA 2024.4 is now available for download and testing. We encourage all users to download this RC and provide feedback. Unless any critical bugs are found, this will be identical to the final 2024.4 release.

in reply to Stephanie Appleby

@cub80_appleby Not a problem! We encourage as many people as possible to test these builds, particularly as we get closer to release (as we are now), but it's not for everyone and that's fine. The more who can test it though, the more likely we will pick up if there are any issues

in reply to Archos

I absolutely do not understand what problem this "fediverse:creator" thing is supposed to solve, or why it has a whitelist of domains that are allowed to say your name.

You’re chasing uptime because you’re concerned about high availability.

I’m chasing uptime because I’m not convinced the machine will come back up if it’s power cycled.

We are not the same.

Whoops, git 2.47.0 just shipped with a significant bug in the `git maintenance` subcommand that causes it to segfault immediately, because of a gap in the test suite.

The git project is doing an excellent job of responding to this in an exemplary way: fixing the bug, amending the test suite, and directly questioning their dev practices to solicit insight into their own process blind spots. And they're doing it all in public.

Well done.

in reply to Ben Zanin

And by the way, git-maintenance is a relatively new git feature¹ (well, 2020-ish) that lets you set repo maintenance tasks to run on a schedule, such as running `git gc`, more aggressive object repacking, even prefetching of remotes that move quickly so that your morning `git fetch` is already primed to run nice and fast, with a minimal delta. It's simple, very useful, and worth using.

In #MacOSSequoia, there is now a default (non-VoiceOver) keyboard shortcut to access a context menu. In most cases, pressing Control-Return will reveal a context menu for the selected item, with no need to interact first. #TipTuesday

Even with years of experience working with Rust, I still find lifetimes extremely confusing to work with. I thought I had a decent grasp on them, but again and again I find myself stumped.

This cookie popup is unscrollable. Literally impossible to use on a large iPhone.

Fuck you web devs and designers. This shit is literally your job and you’re bad at it.

Open source: you all should use open source and private services because we’re not a corporation out to exploit you or your data.

Disabled users: hey, your registration edit field is not labeled so I can’t use my adaptive technology to register or even use your platform. Could you fix it, because, right now, the mainstream/corporate offering has taken accessibility more seriously and I’d rather use a tool/service that I won’t need to struggle with in order to operate.

Open source: what exactly do you expect? We can’t be expected to make things accessible for you, so you can either fork it yourself or just not use our software/services. We’re a small team and corporation has more money than we do so they can devote more time and effort to accessibility. You can always fork the project though and make accessibility yourself!

Disabled user: well, I can’t code, so it looks like I don’t have any other choice but to go back to using this corporate offering that at least took the time to label their registration field correctly and actually took my request more seriously. Oh well, maybe open source tools just aren’t for me.

in reply to Robert Kingett backup

I think it would be more useful to name and shame specific projects than to describe all of open source this way.

Had a funny conversation in the shower rooms at work yesterday morning with another bike-riding commuter who I have been seeing a lot more regularly…

She upgraded her truck to one of those massive Raptors and now can’t fit in ANY of the parking buildings so is having to ride her bike to work.

Readers: I died laughing.

Does anyone know how hard it would be to get my hands on a board/computer with an Intel i860 processor? Note that I am not talking about the 860 chipset, but the failed processor architecture.

Since I only have about 40 followers, I would appreciate as many boosts as possible as it is hurricane related. The Iphone 14 and above has the capability to send messages via satellite. You have to install IOS18 then swipe down from top right to get the utilities screen. You can then do a demo by touching the satellite icon. Evidently it only works if you do not have cell data or wifi available.
