This post aggregates a pretty interesting discussion, but my first takeaway is that Apple's behaviour around its dev platform make it specifically inappropriate for business software: unpredictability, random seasonal breakages, etc., all of which have a greater impact on software made with large teams as the volatility that affects each individual dev compounds as it cascades through the organisation.

The Internet of Things ended up being the internet of unsupported products.

Google is ending support for 1st & 2nd generation Nests and completely pulling out of Europe.

Google is killing software support for early Nest Thermostats

Software support for the original and second-gen Nest Learning Thermostat devices will end on October 25th, leaving customers unable to control them from a phone.

The EU is introducing an energy label for phones, together with mandatory requirements for phones sold in the EU;

- 5 years of software updates (AFTER they stop selling the device in the EU)

- providing important hardware parts (during sale and for 7 years after), including free software (if needed), to every repair shop, within 5-10 business days

- batteries have to make 800 charging cycles and still be above 80% original capacity

And on top of that, phones and tablets need this energy label (which also includes a fall damage durability and repairability score), and abide by the above requirements, from 20 June 2025.

Její téměř 60letá pěvecká kariéra začala 17.11.1934 na soutěži mladých talentů v Harlemu a obratem byla přijata do orchestru Chicka Webba. Late last year I supported the Kickstarter for JetKVM. This device is a tiny little IP-KVM solution. It’s basically a refined package of everything involved in a PiKVM. Connect HDMI & USB from a computer-to-be-controlled, and Ethernet. Then the web interface on the JetKVM device allows that device to be remote controlled using just a web browser from anywhere there’s IP connectivity.
