I've got until november to find work.
The accessibility contract that the government had is no longer going to be renewed.
The best part is, they're going to buy the accessibility tool and do all the work in house.
But don't worry, people who have had no training in accessibility, who no nothing about html or wcag should be able to do the work just fine and it'll save a lot of money in the porcess!
So, if anyone knows anyone that's hiring, please feel free to send them my way!

A very legitimate well-done to Canada for being one of the least suckered into AI garbage in the world!
ctvnews.ca/business/article/ca…
"“We’re not seeing that literacy that we would like to see when we compare ourselves to our global peers, and there’s some reluctance around trusting AI and really embedding it in how we perform our day-to-day work and how we work,” said Terril."
Excellent news.

Canada ranks among least AI literate countries in the world: study
As countries around the world race to leverage artificial intelligence (AI), a recent study found that Canada is falling behind, although it’s not due to a lack of innovation, but growing uncertainty and a gap in public understanding, one expert says…Joshua Santos (CTVNews)
Ooof, that's really poor reporting from CTV, blithely accepting the survey's definition of "AI literacy" to include "embracing the use of AI in their daily working lives".
Literacy on "AI" should be defined by understanding what the technologies actually are (large language models, generative image models, etc), how they are dependent on their training data, their limitations in how they can generate plausible but inaccurate information, and their social & environmental impacts.

I had a great conversation with @baratunde on Life with Machines about the millions of data workers worldwide who produce the data that fuels AI. We dug into the scale of this labor, its deeply human costs, and the possibilities for something better.

You’ve probably met Torx, the star-shaped screw that has become common in our phones, consoles, and cars. But have you met Torx Plus? It's the high-tech upgrade nobody told you about: straighter walls, zero cam-out, and way more torque transfer. Sounds great, until you try to open your gadget and realize your trusty T5 doesn’t fit anymore.
We explain the difference between Torx and Torx Plus on our blog: ifixit.com/News/110702/torx-pl…

Torx Plus: The High-Tech Screw Hiding in Our Gadgets
What the %#@$ even is Torx Plus? It solves a lot of the problems of earlier screw designs, but we’re skeptical of wide adoption. Here’s why.Carsten Frauenheim (iFixit)
Trust me, if it happened in Ontario, it happened here in Québec, and across Canada! Corporate lobbyists and apologists for corporate landlords and investors are trying to say they're not to blame for the housing crisis.
If you're a landlord renting out a property for 3x-5x what it would've rented for ~5 years ago, you're the problem, too.
And you should be ashamed of yourself.
Your tenant shouldn't pay all your bills w/ the rent they pay...

China installs more solar in 1 month than the total energy the US uses
China installed its highest solar power capacity for a single month in May.
back-of-the-envelope calculations, 71 GW is more power than the entire US uses (on average). This is why our electricity is, on average, 2.5-3 times more expensive. This will lead to advantages in AI, production, etc. Cheap energy = cheap everything else.

in reply to feld • • •@matthew we had a chat before we opened our cafe about possibly being a Wonderstate cafe and my wife could operate a commercial bakery to provide all the products to their cafes but it wasn't a good fit at the time
My wife's scones, cookies, and cupcakes blow away the stuff sold in coffee shops. She has some very refined recipes.

in reply to matthew - retroedge.tech • • •@matthew It's much improved, but it's always disheartening to see the threads where people continue to make false assumptions about how it works or what is even possible in this ecosystem. A few of the remaining privacy checkboxes that concern people are going to be taken care of soon, and then they'll have to invent new reasons why it's not secure enough
Meanwhile they'll keep telling people they should use Signal which only makes sense if you can actually access Signal in your country. "The best" tool being designed in a way that makes it impossible to use by people who need it most is pretty goddamn stupid
