Guten Morgen Welt! Ich bemerke, wie meine Timeline hier zunehmend twitteresk, voller Aktionismus und Politik, wird. Manche werden das begrüßen, ich wollte das nicht. Das #Fediverse zeichnet sich für mich durch Maker*innen und Kreative aus. Ich habe auch andere Accounts, die anders aussehen, deswegen sollte ich hier meine Followings wohl ein wenig überarbeiten.
Manchmal fühle ich mich bei so Sachen an die 90iger erinnert. Ein Großteil derer, die in den Jahren davor im Osten für eine andere Gesellschaft eingetreten sind, wurden durch eine Mehrheit mit anderen Zielen quasi überrrannt... Da ist bei mir etwas Ernüchterung, nat. auch Enttäuschung, geblieben.
Technik löst solche menschlichen Probleme wohl nicht, trotzdem versuche ich mir mit Technik zu behelfen. 😆 Schon in Twitterzeiten hab ich #Listen intensiv genutzt, später auch bei Mastodon und seit ein paar Jahren mit Sharkey.
Die normale Timeline checke ich nur sporadisch, aber auch nur die der Follower. Die allg. Timeline betrachte ich so gut wie nie.
Und in den Listen habe ich überwiegend ReToots ausgeschaltet.
Baue ich mir damit eine heile Welt?
Ich denke, man muss sich darüber Gedanken machen, welche Ziele man verfolgt, und abwägen, was man leisten kann und möchte, auch Kräftemäßig.
Vielleicht ist dann eine positive Begegnung mit Einzelnen durchaus auch weitreichender.
Ich nehme den Vers aus dem Evangelium Wo zwei oder drei.. immer seltener als Entschuldigung für die Wenigen, als vielmehr als Ermutigung für die Kraft der Wenigen war ...

Today's project: figuring out the legistics of having the SFP wall jack for the fiber ISP moved to the other side of the house. When I had it installed where it is in late 2017, it made sense to put it there. Now, not so much.

Da mein Speicherverbrauch aber immer nur zwischen 200 und 300MB oszilliert, hatte ich überlegt, auf Revolutionary downzugraden.
Ich hab gesehen, dass z.B. beim Switch auf einen Free-Plan auch alle importierten Mails aus dem Postfach gelöscht werden. Würde das beim Wechsel auf Revolutionary auch passieren? Da gibt's den Import ja (noch) nicht.
It seems like the era of DNS-based adblocking is over.
All the streaming & video sites work around or punitively block it. Recipe and news sites do the same. And because it was always a side channel, there’s no escalation for DNS-based systems to get on top again. The information is no longer being provided by the use of specific domains anymore (or their being null routed is easily detected).
This means active browser Adblocking is basically the only pub left in town.
This means commercial app environments like on phones and TVs are getting pretty hard to avoid ads in.
@BorrisInABox Is there any change or news that I've missed? I'm using DNS add blocking and it works relatively all right, for example I can block most of the adds I get in apps or games on Android etc.
Yesterday, I got a Korg Monotron Delay. If anything can be said to be a synth fidget toy, that might be it, or at least a good start.
Gotta say, though, it's really, really noisy, which might actually be by design, at least in part, and very unshielded. It was picking up a bunch of digital hash from something which came and went as I moved it around. Turns out, it was my Airpods Pro.
I created an account while on VPN and was told they needed to manually approve my account because people try to abuse their system using VPN.
Totally understand that. I was patient. Days later they denied me. Not with a notification, but by simply closing the account. Never even got to use it.

Why the developers of this Mac specific tool decided to put their documentation into an epub file when as it is currently there is no great way to read these efficiently on Mac is beyond me.
Yesterday I introduced a lady to the Paperback app. She works in local government and receives a huge number of PDF's every week. She was thrilled with it. paperback.dev/downloads/
I really, really wish this app were available for Mac. I've got an epub file here that I keep needing to refer to quite a bit and as it is now, I have to NVDA Remote into a Windows machine if I want to even remotely efficiently read the content. Ah well. One can dream.

MoltWorker seems interesting too. I don't think I'll run it with them, but it just made me even more interested in moltbot. This weekend I needa get my ass up and deploy it.
@FastSM One more suggestion. Currently if we press Enter on a post, FastSM will trigger the View post context menu. But, IMO, it would be better to dedicate another keyboard shortcut, like ALT+V, to it. The Enter key, instead, could open the URL in the post if it's the only URL. If several URLs exist, FastSM should display them in a list. As things stand right now, with FastSM viewing posts is easier than accessing/ opening links.
Ableton, if I do any. Used to use audacity but accessibility got worse, they're working on it though and I guess for very basic and quick stuff it can be enough, nothing crazy though. The typical audio blindie would probably say Reaper, but I haven't seen any Reaper tutorial that would speak to me personally, yes I know about Reaper access and all that stuff, so it's just too overwhelming and big for me. Goldwave is also there, and I guess a decent option, as I said I barely edit any audio currently though so....

What is the best way using NVDA to copy multi-line URLS, 3+ lines are more, using NVDA and the terminal? E.G. codex login on a Linux box that doesn't have a GUI browser.
Speech history speech recording, e.g. shift+NVDA+F11 to start, then do whatever produces the text to be spoken, shift+NVDA+F12, and you have it on your clipboard.
AI is making it dramatically easier to contribute to Open Source, but it is not making life easier for the small group of maintainers who still carry the responsibility for deciding what is good, safe, and worth merging.
We've built our own text-to-speech system with an initial English language model we trained ourselves with fully open source data. It will be added to our App Store soon and then included in GrapheneOS as a default enabled TTS backend once some more improvements are made to it.
We're going to build our own speech-to-text implementation to go along with this too. We're starting with an English model for both but we can add other languages which have high quality training data available. English and Mandarin have by far the most training data available.
Existing implementations of text-to-speech and speech-to-text didn't meet our functionality or usability requirements. We want at least very high quality, low latency and robust implementations of both for English included in the OS. It will help make GrapheneOS more accessible.
Our full time developer working on this already built their own Transcribro app for on-device speech-to-text available in the Accrescent app store. For GrapheneOS itself, we want actual open source implementations of these features rather than OpenAI's phony open source though.
Whisper is actually closed source. Open weights is another way of saying permissively licensed closed source. Our implementation of both text-to-speech and speech-to-text will be actual open source which means people can actually fork it and add/change/remove training data, etc.

@Bernard We started working on this because Sherpa didn't meet our requirements including overly high latency making it unsuitable for blind users to use with TalkBack.
@tchambers It's not really platform specific. It currently runs on the CPU but we plan to add TPU support for Tensor and NPU support for Snapdragon in the future. It's made for GrapheneOS and we're not interested in doing any significant work on use outside of GrapheneOS. It will be possible to install it from our App Store on other Android 16+ operating systems but it's not our focus. We're focused on making GrapheneOS better and haven't gotten much out of making stuff available elsewhere.
Well, some times ago, open-source TTS was pretty lacking, but now Kaldi / Sherpa is pretty good, did you check it? If yes, what was the problem with it?
@breizh It wasn't quite good enough and has very high latency which makes it unsuitable for use with TalkBack. We're making this because existing options including Sherpa don't meet our requirements. Otherwise, we could have forked those. It made more sense to make our own instead which we'll be able to continue improving long term. It's similar to our network location and geocoding implementations where we want things done a particular way focused on high quality in all areas we care about.
@GrapheneOS I'm interested in having working open-source #TTS for Slovak language in the future. I my-self am not proficient enough to create my own high quality engine but I think I still might be helpfull. During all these years I've been contributing to eSpeak-ng slovak language support and recently with friends @ondrosik and @Zvonimir Stanecic we are contributing to #RHVoice. Thus I will be watching the development of your TTS engine to find out if it can be trained using a homelab setup and if adding support for the language is something I might be able to help with. Oh quirky and learned Mastodonians, I come before you with a dream. Funded by the Canada Counsel for the Arts, I’m researching Friedrich Dulon and Maria Theresia Von Paradis, both 18th century European musicians renowned in their time, and both Blind. I’m looking for info about a German translator and writer of the time, Pfeffel, who was also Blind. I’d love to find some of his fables in English. Dulon met and admired him, and Leopold Kozeluch created a secular cantata for Maria Theresia von Paradis, setting Pfeffel's German text ("Ich war ein kleines Würmchen") to music. If anyone who likes digging and is multi-lingual could uncover this piece of music or his fables in any form accessible to an English speaker, I’d love to be able to incorporate it into story writing, storytelling, or even singing. As a Blind person myself I'm really interested in bringing their work to life for a modern audience, but I'm mono-lingual, and a terrible researcher. Please boost for reach.
Just received the document checklist for my immigration process, along with a myriad of questions for me, my husband, and the two of us together. One of the questions is asking for photos of our wedding celebrations... a minimum of 20 photos, all put in a Word doc. In addition, we're supposed to put some information *in* the photos... I have absolutely no clue how to do this. Talk about a freaking nightmare. I knew it was going to be, but just how much of one, I had no clue. I'm just... so overwhelmed right now. I'm hoping our consultant will be able to help us with some of this. It'd be sooooooo nice to just answer all these questions over the phone and have somebody else put in all the relevant information.
