"What's that?" Y'all this is four features covering three and a half hours of seminal 80s-90s experimental dance, plus special features. I bought this JUST for a single 15 minute piece which is the best film representation of a Steve Reich piece I've ever seen ( mastodon.social/@mcc/110386487… ) and there's so much other stuff in the box. It's oversize actually so either there's multiple DVDs in here or it comes with a nice meaty paper book

If the name "Steve Reich" means anything at all to you I would like to very strongly encourage you to turn off all the lights, do whatever preparations you would normally do to enter an altered state, and then watch this video

Remembering Alan Turing, died on 7 June 1954 💔

It is heartbreaking that the UK government mistreated Alan Turing. Many AI tech enthusiasts may not be aware of his contributions to the field. In 1950, Turing developed a test for artificial intelligence that is still used today, making him a valuable asset in computer science. Everyone should honor his legacy and memory. RIP, Alan.

This sucks. It shows a total failure of government to protect citizens.

Some more absolutely tectonic research results about mental health: in a small number of promising cases, clinical depression and schizophrenia have been successfully treated as autoimmune disorders. New approaches to other mental health issues like compulsive disorders, narcolepsy and even dementia are showing early signs of treatability by the same processes.

“One of the best features of HyperCard was the easy user interface for card design and layout. It was so easy for a user to place buttons and fields and digital paint images on cards. When it looked really good, and there was a card for every part of the app, a user said to herself, “I’m almost done! All I have to do is make these buttons work.” That, of course, was the hard part, but the author was so jazzed by seeing her app right there, that she (…) made it work.”

@archos

This could be a game changer! 😮

“The new standalone app will be based on Instagram and integrate with ActivityPub, the decentralized social media protocol. That will theoretically allow users of the new app to take their accounts and followers with them to other apps that support ActivityPub, including Mastodon.”

Among freely available LTS Linux distros (Debian, openSUSE LEAP, RHEL rebuilds, Ubuntu), I wonder which does the best job of using all of systemd as the upstream authors intended, and particularly supporting the concepts described in 0pointer.net/blog/fitting-ever…

If I'm not mistaken, the only distro named in that blog post is Fedora, so my guess would be one of the RHEL rebuilds.
