I just realized there's an unexplored niche in the non-animated streaming scene. On one side, there are completely innocent streamers who just do their normal stuff, chatting, discussing world events, ranting, or doing entertainment stuff.
On the other side we have adult streamers who just do porn to earn quick cash.
But there's an unexplored middle ground in which female streamers are getting to push the boundaries to see how far they can do without getting banned; and I don't mean almost showing nudes like in the recent Twitch scandal. I mean scantily clad girls showing off their cleavage while they're chatting or dancing. Then there's other streamers who just record themselves sleeping.
Sleeping! 😱🫣 Remember that short one shot anime that got thousands of sales? Sleeping with Hinako. Yeah it was about an anime girl who just recorded herself sleeping. That was the whole point.
I feel that between porn and normal streaming there's a void where viewers could get more intimacy with streamers, who will become their own kind of celebrity by blurring the lines between reality and fiction, between public image and sexual intimacy.
And it's... just intimacy.
Picture this.
A girl who streams in underwear, while still leaving something to the imagination, where she streams herself eating, talks about stuff, and could occasionally stream herself getting off to porn she's watching, but only for a limited time - or blurring herself. Then she goes to the bathroom, switches to the bathroom camera and goes behind the fogged window to shower herself.
Now imagine the shower window isn't fogged but allows the shadow of her nude body to be shown; a silhouette that shows but still doesn't fully satisfy the viewer.
Like a perverted version of a reality show that gives viewers almost (JUST almost) everything they've dreamed of.
This abandonment of privacy, becoming a reality microcelebrity in order to gain an audience and the illusion of intimacy, that's what the unexplored niche of streaming is about.
I'm not sure it's a good thing, but I can totally see it happening in the near future. Is this where we're headed? 🤔

Though, maybe not. There's a lot of fun stories, and a lot of great people I met during those years, but also a metric ton of sadness. I can't write a followup that focuses only on the good parts, and I don't want to end up writing something that ends up being more sad than happy.

@bermudianbrit Thanks! Oh boy. There’s a lot. This is where I show how much of a terrible audio engineer I am. Basically, EQ, de-noise, gate, more EQ, multiband compression, de-essing, a little bit more compression, this really beautiful shimmer delay called Atlantis by Geraint Luff, delay, dimension expander, and some more EQ and limiting. Sometimes I add even more things on the backing tracks, sometimes I don’t. Mastering is probably a lot more complicated than it needs to be but essentially also a lot of EQ, stereo imaging, limiter. Most of the things I list don’t do anything drastic, and I generally subscribe to the subtractive rather than additive EQ philosophy. I personally like where it is now, but if someone told me hey this is way too much I’d probably agree. But still continue to like it. lol
@bermudianbrit I wanted the vocals to sound very close to the listener, and sadly getting rid of noise is pretty hard while recording especially in home setups. But I think I’ve more or less got it. Been slightly iterating on the setup with each new cover but for the last couple I think I’m very close. Plus excellent microphone technique really really helps. All things considered it’s all her. I do very little.
@bermudianbrit Reaper’s ReaEQ, Izotope RX, ReaGate, ReaComp, ReaXComp, the random de-esser JS that comes with reaper, XFer OTT, Geraint Luff’s Atlantis Reverb, ReaDelay, XFer’s Dimension Expander, ReaLimit. Don’t use special plugins for the most part for these. Didn’t find it necessary.
@KaraLG84 I’ve been having a lot of fun with Disperser. It’s what creates that washed out effect on the saws. I really like the sound of it for some reason.

Or the amount of different installers and downloaders and installer downloaders and installer downloader installers I have.
@KaraLG84 Not for me, I have tons of Arturia stuff, including their flagship V Collection, but yeah if not, I guess it's boring. I like their output though, unlike a lot of companies, they're not full of sleeze and crap.
@FreakyFwoof @KaraLG84 I mean I did have to subscribe to their newsletter, and their software center is not the most accessible thing in the world. So it is pretty typical audio company in my eyes. Plus the 5 activations per license thing. At least it’s 5. Not 2… Earlier this year I had to fight with iLok and some company that I couldn’t get in contact with anymore because I dared to lose access to a computer and didn’t have a hardware dongle. Still didn’t get access to it, the plugin is just lost now I guess. Had to do the same with Brainworks and they responded immediately so it’s not all companies, but still. Paid money. Doesn’t feel good. Izotope for example let’s me do as many as I need as long as I’m not obviously using it for piracy. And I like that. That’s good. More companies should do this. If you have to do DRM, at least make users not afraid to mess up. I go through these hoops every time because the products behind it are genuinely good and I love them. But in my naive mind there has to be a better way. Anyway, enough bitching, time to go have more fun with this thing! Omnisphere is up next. Once I can afford it.
@KaraLG84 Native say that they have a 5-license thing as well, but there's no way to deactivate, and over my years I've installed their stuff on way more than 5 computers (all my own I should add) for one reason and another, so that's also a thing.
@FreakyFwoof @Scott @KaraLG84 I’m pretty sure I’ve installed all of my native things more than 5 times as well without complaint, so I’ll do likewise and not complain. Somehow I’ve run into every possible problem under the sun with Native Access, but licensing wasn’t one of them. Although it does seem to have gotten quite a lot better with the new version.
@KaraLG84 The thing is, Arturia's downloader even uses Juce, but really shitty implementation because it's just full of blank buttons. I installed Refract on Windows recently so I saw the downloader for the first time. Usually install on Mac where VOCR just runs over it like a steam roller and makes it work 'or else!' Windows isn't quite the same...

Well, it was what it was but anyway... So they know how to use it properly, but seemingly choose not to do so. It's maddening shit.

Yes it is. Even if you’re not actually doing any sound design yourself, the amount of presets and sounds it comes with is kind of incredible. Plus, you know, open source and all that. There’s no reason not to have it if you make music digitally imho. Costs nothing, you lose nothing. There are only upsides.
