I was shocked last month when @PleaseDontRain was nominated for a Golden Apple award by @AppleVis .

I wrote a blog post with some thoughts about the experience and bunch of tips that will hopefully help others make their app more accessible.

Why are thousands of people (including me) taking to the streets in the next few days in #Germany? Because far- and not-so-far right people met at a hotel in Potsdam to discuss "the fine tuning of a plan for the forced deportations of millions of people currently living in Germany." I'm thinking we could switch to another format for the #libcurl documentation: github.com/curl/curl/pull/1273…

Neat! do you happen to have a comparison with ronn or pandoc ( jeromebelleman.gitlab.io/posts… or eddieantonio.ca/blog/2015/12/1… ) or is it a simple enough subset that building up from the man pages you already had was good enough?

Are EVs the solution for transportation? Well, that depends. Below report by Volvo shows how EVs actually compare badly to ICE cars for relatively short distances. Only when you drive more than 146,000 km, charging the unit with globally average electricity, do EVs have a smaller footprint compared to ICE cars.

If anything, this emphasises the need for good, frequent, cheap and fine-grained public transport.

Does anybody have experience or expertise with the European Cooperative Society (SCE) legal form?

We're exploring options for a legal entity for @karrot and potentially it fits, but it's really useful to chat to people with more direct experience/knowledge. Boosts appreciated.

The second release candidate of #LibreOffice 24.2 is now available! This will be our next major update, with a new "year.month" version scheme – so it'll arrive in February 2024. And it has a bunch of new features too, which you can help to test: qa.blog.documentfoundation.org… #foss #opensource

Even as development has resumed on Thunderbird, criticisms remain over its stability and features. For those frustrated by Thunderbird’s issues, there may be a solution: Betterbird, a fork of the main Thunderbird client.

Včera jsme sestavili nový stan a zavěsili světlo.

On this day eleven years ago, I completed the conversion of making the entire #libcurl internals non-blocking: daniel.haxx.se/blog/2013/01/17…

"internally, we’re all multi now!"

Looking back over the years, it is kind of amazing how many refactors and overhauls we have done of the libcurl internals while still providing the exact same and functional API...

Today I learned about #trurl, a command-line tool for URL parsing and manipulation from the developer of #curl and #libcurl. Modify or extract URL hostnames, schemes, port numbers, and path and query segments, trim tracking data, encode spaces and other characters, and get everything as either JSON or readable text output. github.com/curl/trurl

Seeking Blind Software Developers

From: Job-Listings <
job-listings-bounces@nfbnet.org>
On Behalf Of Richard Davis via Job-Listings

Kevin Fjelsted of R. D. Partners, Inc. is interested in hiring blind persons as software developers. They are engaged in developing telecommunications
software for their customers, including CRM LIght and iOS applications for iPhone.

As you may know, finding software developers who know accessibility is a big problem today. Kevin thinks hiring blind persons is the solution to this problem.

Given the demand for software developers today (100,000 job vacancies nationwide) companies are no longer requiring four year degrees in computer science
or information technology. Instead, a number of "boot camp" training programs have cropped up, some of them quite expensive. R.D. Partners has found a
nonprofit that has agreed to train people for them at no charge to trainees.

What do you need to do to take advantage of this opportunity? First of all, be a power computer user with knowledge of accessibility. Some training and/or
experience in software development is recommended, but a solid interest in learning and a commitment to this type of work is definitely required. They
will be able to determine if you have the aptitude pretty quickly.

This is a job for a creative person. Many software developers are writers, poets, and artistic types. That may surprise some of you, but it is true.

If you feel you are qualified, contact
kevin.fjelsted@rdpartnersinc.com.
He is willing to answer the kinds of tecnical questions I cannot.

Best wishes,
Dick Davis
