Let Readers Read

#InternetArchive: "Our position is straightforward; we just want to let our library patrons borrow and read the books we own, like any other library. [...] But the publishers suing our library say we shouldn’t be allowed to lend the books we own. They have forced us to remove more than half a million books from our library, and that’s why we are appealing".

The amount of rain in the Netherlands since 1 October is totally out of the range we knew. A very persistent jet stream pattern combined with lots of moisture over the warm Atlantic causes it. Behind that: climate change.
Expect more surprises.

Dneska později, protože volno. 😁

Vy buďte spíš jako Garfield a užijte si pátek! 😊👋

I just read this, and have a bit of constructive criticism. The first version of Windows to include TTS functionality out of the box was actually Windows 2000.

Jo to je pravda, však už jsem ho pokáral, před zástavou Arch Linuxu Cz. Myslím, že co má na Threads maminku, už bude klid. :drake_like:

“…New York City’s libraries are poised to have their budgets fully restored so that branches may resume seven-day-a-week service, including Sundays, according to three people with knowledge of the budget negotiations.” gothamist.com/news/nyc-librari…

in reply to 〜キース:同性愛のアナキストの犬のアクション!

@keith You’d need to take into account people who want their contact information on there instead of just their registrar’s.

Contact points for domain issues that are unlikely to be the registrar’s fault can be useful for some orgs. An abuse contact that isn’t the registrar can be more useful if the org wants to be the first to know about an issue, or if the registrar is unlikely to hold the registrant accountable. Run some queries on domains own by large companies and you’ll see somewhat little WHOIS privacy despite it being easy for them to obtain.

So you’d need the default to have WHOIS privacy, and an opt-in to put your own contact information…which isn’t too different from the current landscape. NameCheap, Porkbun, I think Google Domains, etc. all offer WHOIS privacy by default.

My friend @pikhq is brilliant, and based on one of her suggestions, I've developed the worlds first artificial intelligence CEO!
in reply to rabbit

The CEO market is ripe for disruption! While it's tricky to teach an LLM to do very technical tasks, it's trivial to teach them to make decisions which maximize shareholder value. With the current cost of CEO labor, this is a market ripe for the picking!
in reply to rabbit

You could even supplement your virtual CEO with genuine human intelligence as necessary with gig CEOs. With CEOs costing in the millions of dollars a year, replacing them with gig-work CEOs which don't require bonuses could save significant operating expenses.

did you ever find out the reason they suddenly didn’t like you anymore? Did someone complain about you “hacking” them? 😅

@can nope, there was never any explanation given apart from "sometimes it can take a long time" - so we're left with speculations.

“Boeing said space mission is ‘going well’ as astronauts stranded” is an actual headline that’s not from The Onion.

My manager had a regularly scheduled all hands meeting, which included a lot of people. He ambushed me (in a good way) with a tribute to me. It started out with the intro music to the def sec podcast and a slide with some funny things I instituted/commonly said at work. There was a parade of people saying nice things and then he asked me to say some words. I held it together for about 30 seconds and then, me an oversized, over the hill seasoned vice president of a Fortune 500 company, broke down crying in front of several hundred people.

Anyhow, I hope your Thursday is good.
