LLMs won't save labor when you use them like this
A dispatch featuring a JS framework benchmark that was too good to check, and the LLM-generated code that doomed its authors to a day of apology and pull requests
It took over a year since I wrote this warning, but I finally found a case in the wild!
Well, *I* didn’t, but someone on the A11y Slack had an issue and I was able to identify it by description alone.

Here's my new project, a keyboard for one-handed typing. Tens of thousands Ukrainians have injured arms and hands during the war, and my goal is to make an inexpensive keyboard for anyone to assemble at home.

in reply to raphael • • •I'm mad that by cancelling it they missed on expanding these themes:
- The Force / The Thread as something that is used for different purposes.
- Why are the Jedi restricting the use of something that is universal, anyway?
- The coven, very Caliban and the Witch, would love to see more of this.
- Kidnapping force-sensitive Black children to be used as a space-cop resource, oooof.
- Does the abuse of power go all the way up? Is Yoda blissfully unaware?

in reply to Federico Mena Quintero • • •@federicomena Clone Wars goes into a lot this, which is why I was excited to see a live action getting into some of those themes.
But Clone Wars wasn’t popular either when it first started because many Star Wars fans don’t like original stories.
People swear up and down about Andor, but most ‘fans’ didn’t watch Andor.
So we’re going to get at least another decade of Luke Skywalker lore dives that we already know about.

in reply to Mad Villain • • •Oh, that's good to know - maybe I should continue watching Clone Wars. I made it about halfway through the first season and then got distracted with something else.
I LOVED Andor. Curiously enough, a teenager friend doesn't want to watch it because there are no light sabers 🤷 He loved Obi-Wan, and I thought it was pretty crappy.

in reply to Federico Mena Quintero • • •@federicomena It’s a long series but worth it because it talks about the effects of Jedi dogma on the Jedi and the populations they engage. It gets pretty intense in some spots, so be prepared.
That’s the kind of people Disney wants to watch their shows. I’m surprised we got Andor of The Acolyte because the usual M.O. of Disney is to appeal to the lowest common denominator rather than quality storytelling.
It’s disappointing a company of that size can’t seem to figure out how to do both, but it’s a corporate entity at the end of the day.
