This is an interesting article by a writer who finds that reading a book aloud helps him with comprehension. In fact, he says reading out loud was the custom for most of history, to the point that Augustine wrote about a fellow monk who read silently and thought it was a strange habit:

I certainly never thought about it that way. I even came across the anecdote about Augustine before, but that writer clearly thought that the other guy's silent reading was more advanced, and apparently thought that Augustine admired that ability. Unfortunately I can no longer find that article that I read so long ago.

Question about Braille displays: Does anyone know of a Braille display on the market that exclusively implements the HID standard for Braille, and not any of the legacy proprietary protocols, including proprietary protocols that used HID as a transport? I remember some past discussion about TalkBack on Android not supporting the HID standard. Which displays were, or would have been, affected by this?

Dunno if its useful, but the VarioUltra by VisioBraille seems to allow you to select some kind of HID-Table style you can use, options are Android, Apple and Windows, in various different languages and encodings.

Text Shot: Today, following months of reports and rumors that intensified in recent days, OpenAI announced its “o1” AI model family beginning with two models: o1-preview and o1-mini, which the company says are designed to “reason through complex tasks and solve harder problems” than the GPT series models. Both models are available today for ChatGPT Plus users but are initially limited to 30 messages per week for o1-preview and 50 for o1-mini.  However, OpenAI also cautions that “As an early model, it doesn’t yet have many of the features that make ChatGPT useful, like browsing the web for information and uploading files and images. For many common cases GPT-4o will be more capable in the near term.”

Please boost: When I use remote Incident Manager to provide support, mostly things go as planned, but occasionally the shift+windows+backspaces key simply doesn't work. At a minimum, this is frustrating, causing me to shut down my system to end a session, but it could be worse than this depending on what needs doing. Pneuma Solutions says they have not received this feedback from anybody. So if I'm not just the solo victim of this random problem, please report it to them, and perhaps let me know!
