OK. I updated the BeSTspeech Driver to V0.26 at: eurpod.com/BestSpeak.nvda-addo….
Changes:
- added the 14 character-defined voices from @rommix0 speak program - these voices will now predefine the proper headsize, excitation, inflection, and nasality for you.
- as a result of this change, we introduced a new formula to calculate frequency to the 0-100 pitch range of NVDA and back to the ring setting, as well as one which calculates nasality from 0 to 100.
- pitch ranges should have mapped largely to their original ranges. Now nasality and inflection has greater incremental control, enjoy.

Mixxx 2.5 Stable Released

As is our Christmas tradition, we have a present under the tree for everyone (even if you don't have a tree!) The biggest change is that #Mixxx is now built for QT6 instead of QT5. While this means leaving certain older operating systems behind, supporting QT6 is an important step in keeping Mixxx relevant on newer operating systems.

We also have a bunch of updates to controller configs.

Toby Doom Accessibility Mod Version 8.0 Released

Here is the release video for Toby Doom 8.0. You can grab the full version with everything included, or visit the Toby Doom topic on the ZDoom forum to download the components individually.

This version includes support for Hexen. Although there is an open source Hexen iwad, I was unable to get it working. You can get Hexen from Steam and just place the Hexen iwad in the Toby Doom folder.

You can log in to your #GoToSocial instance and use it like Mastodon :) All data is stored in the browser and on your own computer, masto-fe.superseriousbusiness.org doesn't store anything at all. It's like pinafore or semaphore in that regard.

I'll mess around with it more on and off as a hobby project, see if it can be customized + themed to feel a bit more like GoToSocial.

Kind of a side-topic, and not related to curl, but this gave me a terrifying idea.

What if malicious actors submit vulnerability reports to make FOSS maintainers' lives harder, just to give themselves more time to exploit actual 0-days?

The xz utils incident was careful and long-term, but if someone does find a vulnerability and they're malicious, presumably they'll want to keep it unaddressed for as long as possible.

What better way to do that than distract everyone they can with AI-generated BS? Even if it buys them 30 minutes or an hour, that's time during which they could do damage.

Gives me the creeps.

So, you're using decentralized non-corporate-owned social media because you don't want your online identity and activity tracked and held by some corporation, and even possibly a government-influenced owner (TikTok?).

I've opened an #XMPP (#Jabber) messaging server, which is based on the same principles as whatever application you are reading this on. XMPP is completely decentralized, open source, free, and volunteer run.

Also, neither member identity nor messages are stored on the server. There is no centralized control over the network. You sign up by first choosing a server. Your ID looks like an ActivityPub ID (example: support@chat.between-us.online).

Besides end-to-end message encryption, there's optional #OMEMO on-device encryption. No centralized messaging app (other than Signal) offers an encryption option this strong. There's video calling, file transfer, and both public and private chat rooms/groups. There are many messaging applications available for all operating systems.

You provide no personally identifiable information when you sign up, not even an email address. You only pick your ID and provide a password (which cannot be changed or recovered as the server does not keep identity information, so don't lose it and be sure it can't be guessed). If you delete your account, through the messaging app, there is no record of your account having existed on the server.

If interested, you can sign up on the messaging application (use chat.between-us.online as the server) or via the website at between-us.online, which also provides additional information about XMPP and how to use it.

A note about #Matrix. Don't @ me about Matrix. This message is only to announce an XMPP (Jabber) server option. I am not advocating XMPP over Matrix. I use Matrix as well. It ticks all the same boxes. This is just an announcement about an XMPP server.

I do definitely agree that there's power and contentment in working towards something outside of yourself, not for your own betterment.

That of course doesn't have to be kids, or military service, or religion. There are so many good things we can do.

Hi, all. My mom has been gone for nearly 15 years but her pies live on and our legend! She made the absolutely best pies in the whole world. So, I got brave and made my first pumpkin pies from scratch, including the crust. She had the old 1946 edition of the Joy of Cooking book. It comes in 30 volumes from BARD. I eventually found that old pie crust recipe that she used in that book. I followed the recipe on the can of pumpkin, adding in nutmeg. I also used cream instead of evaporated milk per one of the suggestions on the can. Tooting my own horn here, the pies were absolutely amazing. The secret is not handling the dough, using shortening and a little butter, and a little ice water for perfectly flaky piecrust. I used this wonderful Mrs. Anderson's piecrust bag. You shake your dough into a ball and place it inside the bag and zip it shut. Then, you can roll the dough inside the round bag . When you're done, you zip open the bag which lies flat, put the pie plate upside down over the dough, and flip it over. Awesome! Just thought someone might find this helpful! See link below!
