Listen. I wasn't born yesterday. I know that fungi aren't plants: they don't have chloroplasts to photosynthesize. They don't use cellulose for their cell walls like plants.

But what *do* they use then? Chitin! Like a bug! This is what the exoskeletons of insects (such as ants) are made of!

The implications of this are marvelous. Consider Prototaxites, the tree-size fungi of the Silurian. They stood tall using chitin. And to me? THAT says that giant ants may be more possible than we think!

Takže děcka, spustil jsem vstupdofediverse.cz/, který vysvětluje co je Fediverse. #czech #vstupDoFedivese.

"We did get some feedback from other QUIC stacks" they said to me. But few QUIC stacks support several different TLS library QUIC APIS, and with this being very different they need to if they don't at the same drop the support for the other TLS libs - which seems unlikely.

"plan to support it" might not mean much, plus we don't know what those authors knew about the API when they said so.

Clearly one of those four was not ngtcp2, which in my eyes is the most important one...

Hallo @Friendica Support mir ist im Monitoring vor ein paar Minuten aufgefallen, dass meine Instanz gerade viel zu tun hat. Also wesentlich mehr, was sonst los ist.

Question: How many lines of code does it take to get a slider control to expose a text value (i.e. not entirely numeric) to UI Automation (and thus Narrator)?
Answer: more than 200.
Contrast: On the web, we could just do this with a single aria-valuetext attribute.

I very much welcome quote posts. Despite the fears that some have about it, I believe it’s needed.

What’s important is that the @Mastodon team was mindful about their decision, spending ages simply considering it.

There’s an opt-out, which means those who want it can use it. And those who don’t, can keep it from happening to their posts.

In happier news, it turns out that the population of humpback whales -- which #StarTrek expected would be extinct by the time of the Star Trek future -- now have a population over 100,000, and are no longer considered endangered! Hooray! Sometimes things do get better.

I'm certainly not the first to express this, but I'm reminded of it again this morning:

You are not alone.

As you scroll around the internet, you may find people going about daily life and enjoying hobbies while it seems like the world around you is burning. That doesn't mean those people aren't just as hair-on-fire-concerned as you. They may even be doing something about it. But finding joy is also a form of resistance.

You're not crazy.

I contacted ebooks.com to see how I could shop DRM-free ebooks only. They gave me this link: ebooks.com/en-us/drm-free/

I also noticed that if you choose a category when the search results come up, you can turn on a check box in the Filter column to select DRM-Free.

So this looks like it might be a good resource for buying DRM-free books that aren't tied to any app.

More "enshittification". This time from Amazon. Amazon is pulling a Google, killing off popular services. Evidently, I have until 25th February to download my 708 books that I have purchased from them. After the 25th you can no longer download YOUR books for backup or transfer via USB

Good job I did this 2 years ago eh? Buy the books from elsewhere.

A little boy and a little girl went to the same school and became good friends. Every day at lunch, they sat together and soon realized they both always brought chicken sandwiches.
This routine continued throughout the fourth and fifth grades until, one day, the boy noticed that the girl’s lunch was different.
"Hey, how come you're not eating a chicken sandwich today? Don’t you like them anymore?" he asked.
"I love chicken," she said, "but I have to stop eating it."
"Why?" he asked, curious.
She pointed to her lap and whispered, "Because I’m starting to grow little feathers down there!"
Surprised, he said, "Let me see."
"Okay," she replied, and she showed him.
He looked and nodded. "You're right! You’d better stop eating chicken."
The boy kept eating his chicken sandwiches—until one day, he brought peanut butter instead.
"I have to stop eating chicken sandwiches too," he told the girl. "I'm starting to grow feathers down there as well!"
She gasped. "Can I see?"
He hesitated, then showed her.
The girl took one look and exclaimed, "Oh no! It’s too late for you... you've already got the neck and giblets!"

I really enjoyed the first 22 or so chapters of this one. I finished the rest. It got a bit too dark for my taste, though, and the things it was trying to say, combined with the way it was saying them, just didn't quite land for me.
