- Dating platforms certainly use machine learning to create the profile proposals for users. That's called recommender systems.
- They are not interested in giving you the perfect match, because that would mean that you don't need the platform anymore.
- They use priming. This means they categorize the "attractivity" of people. And let's say you are a 6 or 7 (out of 10) in their system, they first present 8 or 9 graded profiles to you, expecting the "8 person" to reject you. But this primes your expectations of "what you can get". And hence when presented with a good matching profile, you probably will judge this as being below your expectations.
