To my knowledge this is the first time that a blind woman will serve in Congress! Congratulations to Lateefah Simon on being elected to represent California’s 12th Congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives. Representative Simon was born blind and is a fierce advocate for accessible transportation, civil rights, and racial justice. We continue to encourage more blind people to seek elected positions in government.

Recently I read a book about the Chinese community in and around Sacramento. Many of them huddled in smaller, less urban areas because of anti-Chinese violence in San Francisco Chinatown; as well as to flee white supremacists who killed them, at various points throughout the late 19th and early 20th century.

That gives me more perspectives when I read stories like these.

I can’t even begin to tell you what a massive improvement it is for my mental health that there is now an Indonesian coffee shop near where I live in SF; that PLAYS LAGU GALAU (emo Indonesian music; one of my major music genres!)

It just opened, and.. hearing this music, and this language, around me in a place where I sometimes feel unmoored and far from home, is just a godsend.
