Alright, here's a response article to @martijnbraam's "Developers are lazy, thus Flatpak". I'll be addressing some of their claims by explaining why some of the design decisions make sense the way they are.

Edit: should there be a response article to mine, I'll respond it here (unless it doesn't address any of my points).

Response to “Developers are lazy, thus Flatpak”
Recently, the article “Developers are lazy, thus Flatpak”, by Martijn Braam, was published to criticize a few things regarding Flatpak. I want to go over the article and address some points that were raised.TheEvilSkeleton

Thanks! (Can I claim a third pack by reporting a bug my patch introduced? :D)
I think Month of LibreOffice & the sticker packs are a great way to get more people involved long-term - after all the first patch/translation/bug report is often the most cumbersome one due to all the setup overhead.
I always try to lower the barriers I bump into along the way, eg. submitted this patch to #fedora to include all build debs ootb:

@fraggle FYI I threw together a 5-minute #Flatpak manifest for SDL Sopwith. Mostly works!

Flathub's Getting a New Logo – and it's a Flawless Fit - OMG! Linux
“Wow!” — my reaction when I first saw the brand new logo for Flathub. The de-facto Flatpak app store for Linux that every other post on this site seems toJoey Sneddon (OMG! Linux)
Years ago elementary was approached by Canonical to become an official Ubuntu flavor. “All” we had to do was offer Snap out of the box. We debated it—being able to offload some additional infrastructure concerns was attractive—but we realized it helped Canonical more than it helped us, and we had chosen Flatpak for all of its benefits as covered here:

Unfiltered Flathub is approved to be provided as a third party repo you can enable for Fedora 38! In the next release, if you enable Flathub as a third party repo, you will get everything on Flathub and not just the Fedora Flatpaks.

Say hello to Tally for Plausible, a rebrand of my Plausible app to better differentiate it from Plausible Analytics itself!
The app supports:
• Your dashboard from Plausible.io
• Custom domains
• A refreshed design
• Cross-desktop light/dark style
• A more app-like experience
• Theoretically, phones!*
Grab it now from Flathub:

If you look at the roadmap for our next major ESR (#Thunderbird Supernova, version 115), you'll notice our goal to complete most features is Q4 2022.
That's because we're entering "feature-freeze" by the end of 2022, and then spending several months on polish and refinement.
This should also mean a longer beta-testing period (and yep, we're working hard on official stable and beta #Flatpak channels).
We want Supernova to exceed your expectations. developer.thunderbird.net/plan…

Is it just me or can’t Fedora Silverblue install Flatpaks downloaded from the web (flatpakref) in GNOME Software?
(This is a valid, decentralised way of distributing software that doesn’t require centralised services like Flathub, etc. and should be supported as a first-class citizen in free and open operating systems.)
