Our DM is experimenting with giving us players more free rein to suggest aspects about the world and especially stuff that concerns our characters. He's finding it's more fun for him if he gets to enjoy what other people add to the story.

I think it's fantastic, but it's difficult to foster that approach in #DnD. It's not really built for it. Of course, at this point the version of "D&D" we are playing is so homebrewed and tweaked that it's eventually not going to qualify as the same game.

I am pretty much against biological essentialism and I do my best to ensure my work reflects that.

Unfortunately that is relevant to this review of representation in the 2024 D&D player's handbook which covers quite the range of topics.

It's spicy stuff! 😋 And quite refreshing to hear in honesty.

Today in Techbros failing to understand consent:

The Microsoft overlords parachuted into management of the 5e, 5.5e and dnd brand are automatically updating character sheets made using DnDBeyond.

Just a simple tick box of "would you like to do this?" And they'd get a lot of happy compliance but, they don't get consent and won't care that you just don't change someone's character sheet without permission.

Roadhouse Endgame: I was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of ‘what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as ‘the evil ones’ and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it’s a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it’s not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don’t think about it’ and then halfway through my sentence I actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes
