"At key moments, Leavitt visibly seethed at the media. And we think we know why: On Tuesday, consumer confidence registered another big drop, and Leavitt was simply unable to defend the glaring Trump-Musk failures we’re seeing."

"At Tuesday’s media briefing, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the White House will now decide who attends briefings, an effort to insulate President Trump from tough scrutiny. She also offered awful spin about the developing Elon Musk fiasco."

#RachelMaddow just went off on #MSNBC for canceling #TheReidOut. She pointed out that while MSNBC is keeping #AlexWagner, they cancelled her show as well as #JoyReid’s, & in doing so they cancelled the only shows in prime time with women of color as anchors. She also talked about the new leadership disrespecting the support staff by making them reapply for jobs at the network.

Well done #Maddow.

#JoyReid’s #MSNBC show #TheReidOut is cancelled.

“I owe the television part of my career to Joy Reid, as do so many other #Black voices y'all never would have heard of if not for her,” #journalist #ElieMystal posted on social media. “And *that's* why she's gone. They can treat black folks as interchangeable, but everybody Black knows that Joy was indispensable.”

Postmedia is only 00.37% Canadian-owned.
One-third of one percent.
This explains the many columns in their pages right now promoting US annexation of Canada or Alberta succession to the US. #cdnpoli #postmedia #media

This podcast from Australian radio on the challenges of local journalism is informative. The problems described are not unique to Australia, in as much as they derive from the decline of traditional advertising, thanks to the rise of the Web and social media. Potential solutions are discussed, as are the implications for democracy.

“The White House press corps would be in wolf pack mode if Biden were in the middle of a speech and suddenly veered into gibberish about boats and sharks. There would be front-page stories questioning whether the president, at 81, was suffering from dementia; and the op-ed pages would be filled with thumb-suckers about whether Vice President Harris and the Cabinet should invoke the 25th Amendment."

I noticed a reference to this article on Slashdot.

My own general approach is not to post commentary on the news. If I find discussions that are more interesting than what I generally encounter in the mainstram media, I may post a reference.
My main source of news at the moment is the BBC World Service, supplemented by various podcasts, often Deep State Radio:
thedsrnetwork.com/
and online reading - generally reputable media outlets.

The #media is playing with fire again. What is this whole stuff about Trump winning the election against Biden if they were matched up again? I mean, on what basis would Trump win the election? OK, I get people are unhappy about inflation and such, but how would they expect Trump to fix any of it?
