Tonight's Low Quality Ad is for this Baby Yoda Christmas Stocking.

The plan: You guys buy 1 million of these. Using my newfound influence, I meet with Disney and convince them to cast Danny DeVito as Baby Yoda in the Mandalorian movie. No CGI. Just DeVito painted green.

*Winter in the tents is unbearable…*
The wind cuts through our bodies, rain seeps into our worn-out blankets, and nothing protects our children from the bitter cold.
Their feet are bare, their clothes are thin, and their bodies tremble from the freezing weather.

*We need winter clothes, warm blankets, and a proper tent to shield us from the harshness of winter.*
Every bit of support from you means warmth — it means life. 💔

Something is changing my default output device to 24 bit 96 khz. It is annoing, because it doesnt change the imput device, so Reaper can not open it in wasapi. Today it probably broke my vdo ninja recording, which was half a speed. It seems that this happens after lenovo or windows update. Lets see if I can create some script which will monitor it and let me know when this happens again

I'm looking for a new job!
Last year, I successfully launched a completely new product as a Product and Tech Lead, which has already delivered several million texts this year via a freely configurable workflow engine.
I live in the Stuttgart (Germany) area, but I'm a fan of asynchronous communication and remote work. Flexible working hours are very important to me.

What living my values would look like in terms of technology: running BSD or Plan9 on a modular, repairable laptop[1], carrying a minimalist phone and a dedicated camera, only SMS and Signal for messaging, only open/federated social media, Bandcamp, &c.

Ways I violate those values: Mac, iPhone, iMessage, Telegram, WhatsApp (!), still have an Instagram account (!), Spotify, &c. 😔

Amateur radio, aka ham radio, is like a superpower - especially during a disaster.

From the newest Techtonic, my interview with @qrper (K4SWL, or Thomas Witherspoon) and how he survived Hurricane Helene. Fascinating.

Conclusion, for anyone who doesn't have an eloquence obsession like me, it's probably a very unfair price. I think you can invest that money better, but well we'll see how long it takes somebody to come up with a crack...
For context for those who don't have it, in germany it's 2.99€ monthly, and 29.90€ yearly. You do have a 7 day trial with either plan.
It's fun. Not ultra fast, but one of the faster TTS options on Android I'd say. I'll probably miss the automatic language switching from SmartVoice, but it's good to take a break from the laggy Ava. I'm very certain I'll get it anyway, it's basically what I've wanted, and eloquence has been in my life daily for like, 8 years with phone beeing an exception at the start. I can understand it well, in either english or german, it's robotic and dry enough without beeing annoying at it. Well, what else can I say...

I work at Red Hat. Red Hat is part of IBM since 2019. It was a big change. But knowing we are part of a global company that is run by a CEO that focuses on reality instead of weird dreams is a Damn Good Thing. Thanks, Arvind Krishna!

Question about accessible remote tech support across platforms:

I was using RIM to help troubleshoot a Mac issue, me on Windows, target machine is Mac OS. One side of the internet connection was kinda patchy and latency of the speech feedback felt like 3 years per keypress.
We made a change that accidentally caused the target machine to lose all audio output. I killed VO, started remote access from the RIM menu, got prompted to get the accompanying NVDA add-on, and within a handful of seconds I had text from their Mac coming straight to my NVDA. Man, what a difference! It's honestly the first time I've done Windows to Mac remote support and felt like I could be productive here.

My questions are these:
1. How do I enable that setup without killing VoiceOver on the target? There are many scenarios where the target hearing what I'm doing is important, but I want to work without feeling like I'm swimming through a swamp. At the moment it seems like the remote access option disappears from my RIM menu when VO is running on the target.
2. Does anyone know of any efforts to get this sort of transmission from VO to NVDA happening as an add-on? Failing that, do I know any intrepid hackers who'd be interested in a session to sniff at traffic if I provide lab rats and potentially some sponsorship? It wouldn't need to have all the nice onboarding that RIM has or send audio (I'm aware that's difficult to do well from prior conversations).
