I see lots of people in my feed excited about Firefox landing vertical tabs, but honestly the game changer in the 140 release for me is the fact that you can finally add your own custom search engines without writing an entire dog damned extension for each of them. I think that was the last UI feature that sometimes made me miss Chrome.

I still support my 87-year-old English teacher with her computer. It started in 2003 when I was 15. We bought her a PC, set up a WEB.DE email, and installed @thunderbird to avoid WEB.DE’s bloated UI. We’ve replaced the computer twice, but she still uses the same email address in #Thunderbird.

Today, she called and asked me to help her donate €50 to Thunderbird. When she hears how others struggle with ad-filled webmail, she’s always grateful for her clean, simple setup.

Someone on Reddit asked for the old Braillenote startup sound yesterday.
I never used a Braillenote myself, I went straight from Perkins to computer. My first computer lived on a trolley in a cupboard, but by the late 1990's I was rocking a Toshiba with a speech synthesizer on a PCMCIA card. That was absolutely amazing. The portability! Fabulous.

Oddly enough it wasn't until I started working at a school for the blind in 2013 that I saw more than one Braille notetaker in use. They were still on Apex's back then, there were a few mPowers kicking about too.

An die GPN-Orga wurden (leider) eine niedrige einstellige Anzahl an Skabies-Fällen (Krätze) im GPN-Umfeld herangetragen. Die herangetragenen Fälle haben sich selbständig isoliert und in Behandlung begeben.

Wir wollen mit dieser Mitteilung an alle noch einmal Aufmerksamkeit und Sensibilität in der Community stärken.

**tl;dr: Nach der GPN gab es einige wenige Fälle von Krätze (Skabies). Wenn du 2-5 Wochen nach der GPN starken Juckreiz (besonders nachts) oder Hautausschlag bemerkst, gehe bitte zu ärztlichem Fachpersonal und informiere deine engen Kontaktpersonen. Offene Kommunikation ist wichtig, um die Verbreitung zu stoppen und Stigmatisierung zu vermeiden.**

Skabies wird durch die Krätzmilbe verursacht und ist eine ansteckende Hautkrankheit. Die Übertragung erfolgt in der Regel durch engen und längeren Hautkontakt (mindestens 5-10 Minuten), zum Beispiel beim Kuscheln, Flauschen, Händchenhalten oder gemeinsames Schlafen in einem Bett. Auch das Teilen von Kleidung, Handtüchern oder Bettwäsche kann ein Risiko darstellen, wenn diese kurz zuvor von einer infizierten Person benutzt wurden. Ein schneller, flüchtiger Kontakt (z.B. Händeschütteln, simple Umarmung) ist in der Regel nicht ausreichend für eine Ansteckung.

Symptome treten allerdings erst zwei bis fünf Wochen nach der Ansteckung auf, bei einer erneuten Infektion auch früher. Typische Anzeichen sind:

Starker Juckreiz, besonders nachts im warmen Bett.
Hautrötungen, Bläschen oder kleine Knötchen, oft an Fingerzwischenräumen, Handgelenken, Achseln, Bauch, im Genitalbereich oder an den Füßen.
Mitunter sind feine, dunkle Milbengänge auf der Haut sichtbar.
Was tun bei Verdacht auf Krätze?

Wenn du den Verdacht hast, dich angesteckt zu haben, oder die genannten Symptome bei dir bemerkst, ist es wichtig, schnell zu handeln und vor allem deine (Haut-)Kontakte zu informieren:

Informiere Kontaktpersonen: Sprich offen mit Personen, mit denen du engen Kontakt hattest (Familie, Freunde, Mitbewohnende etc.). Dies ermöglicht es ihnen, ebenfalls auf Symptome zu achten und gegebenenfalls einen Ärzt*in aufzusuchen. Offenheit und Kommunikation sind hier entscheidend, um die Ausbreitung einzudämmen.
Geh zu deine*r Ärzt*in: Nur ein*e Ärzt*in kann eine gesicherte Diagnose stellen und die richtige Behandlung einleiten. Krätze ist sehr gut behandelbar, aber eine unbehandelte Infektion kann zu weiteren Beschwerden führen und die Ansteckungsgefahr erhöhen.
Hygienemaßnahmen beachten: Befolge die Anweisungen deiner Ärzt*in bezüglich der Behandlung und ergänzender Hygienemaßnahmen (z.B. Waschen von Kleidung und Bettwäsche bei mindestens 60 °C, gründliche Reinigung von Textilien, die nicht gewaschen werden können).
Leider ist Skabies häufig mit Stigmatisierung verbunden. Wir haben die Erfahrung gemacht, dass gerade queere Betroffene, die nicht in heteronormativen Beziehungskonstellationen leben, bei ärztlichem Fachpersonal schwer Unterstützung finden. Besteht bei bekannten Kontakt daher bitte daher um so stärker um Untersuchung und Behandlung.
