TIL. Lincoln was assassinated 5 days after the surrender of the confederates. Jefferson Davis, the (ex-)President of the Confederation got arrested, but they couldn't try him for complicity in the assassination, nor war crimes, nor treaon. Releases on bail, he went to Lennoxville, QC (a borough of Sherbrooke, QC, today)
He was never tried for treason.
