Have started a podcast, focusing on the broader impact of open.

Will write more next week, but first episode is up, featuring @molly0xfff and @ed on the future (and recent past) of open. Recording has been super-fun (today: on open in climate and humanitarian work) and I hope that comes through for listeners.

Outreachy will be celebrating a huge milestone!

Over the years, we've impacted thousands of people subject to systemic bias and underrepresentation in the technical industry where they live worldwide by creating a safe space for them to learn and grow.

Through our efforts, alongside kind sponsors and mentoring organizations, we've increased and supported #diversityintech.

Watch this space as we celebrate our milestone in the coming #internship cohort.

If you want to record your voice, and your iPhone is the only thing you have at the moment, it doesn't have to sound bad.
In this audio clip, I am recording the sound of my own voice without iOS default processing using all three microphones on my iPhone 13 mini.

Want a new feature in LibreOffice? @tdforg – the non-profit entity behind the suite – is looking to create tenders for some improvements. Let us know what things the software needs: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl…

How do we submit ideas? The blog post doesn't make it clear.

Also, I would say that, at this point, LibreOffice has all the features it needs, and should spend its time doing user research and improve its UI. What's the point of having features that 99% of your users don't know how to use?

As much as I hate using Google Docs because it's Google, it does offer a very nice experience. I rarely have to search for tools: they are right where I expect them to be.

🏒 Český tým vstoupil do mistrovství světa v ledním hokeji zápasem se Slovenskem. První gól vsítil slovenský tým, Češi do dvou minut srovnali.
Konečný stav utkání se nijak nelišil od čísel, která svítila na výsledkové tabuli už na konci první třetiny.

Wow, this is an awesome video from Bowers & Wilkins on building studio monitors from scratch. Be patient while the music is playing at the beginning.

Okay folks: this morning we're launching something we think is pretty useful. Lots of people have strong opinions on how content moderation should work, but they've never done it. So we built a content moderation mobile game (browser-based): moderatormayhem.engine.is/

Details about it are here: techdirt.com/2023/05/11/modera…

hey, I'm trying this with a screen reader right now and I'm trying to get through the tutorial. I'm at the stage where it asks me to "Swipe this card to the right or left to continue.".
Below that are two un-roled text items called "KEEP IT UP" and "TAKE IT DOWN". Are these options I'm supposed to be able to activate? They don't seem to do anything if I do. I can route the mouse, click and drag to continue the tutorial, but then I have no idea what I'm actually clicking and dragging.

It's funny to me how lots of people don't agree with the way mastodon.social is operated, even going as far as muting it and giving the finger to all their followers from that instance, yet, they are perfectly fine using a server running Mastodon, coming from the same person. A typical example of bending morals to fit needs if you ask me.
in reply to Erion

If you are talking about my encounter with 3 spammies that tells me about a new account with a username and password I never applied for coming from mastodon.social, then sorry, it's not the server's problem but it is however the spammers coming from that server's problem if they are exposed. I don't have a problem with mastodon.social, or with any other masto server I've seen thus far, I have a problem with scammers coming from said servers.

User interface improvements are in every major #LibreOffice release, thanks to the Design team! Here's what they achieved last year: blog.documentfoundation.org/bl… #opensource

New Zelda and Nintendo’s lack of commitment to accessibility, slightly negative
It’s Legend of Inaccessibility release day, so it’s time to stop looking at some gaming sites and YouTube channels for a bit. It’s really sad that of all the major gaming companies, Nintendo is the only one that’s consistently not really cared to implement any kind of accessibility features to either their games or hardware - the Switch is the only major console still lacking any kind of Text to Speech for instance. Steve Saler put it really well in his video - Nintendo’s game design does a lot to make their games sooo close to being accessible, but it’s unfortunate they don’t decide to do that extra push and actually consult with gamers with disabilities. youtube.com/watch?v=vfFvMUpSQS…

OK can I take a moment and come back to #Nintendo for a second… So they killed the 3DS EShop a while back, making it impossible to buy or download any digital games… But, even though the system is end of life they just went out of their way to release a firmware update to patch the exploit people used to play their games (as in the ones they purchase in the past or maybe ones they never got to play because they only had a digital release). IMO this is easily one of the most user hostile companies in the world.

It most likely has to do ‘with ‘this’ video from #ModernVintageGamer and the discussion about the game #Cubic Ninja:
