Can anymany tell me how I'm "supposed" to use end-to-end encryption with XMPP?
As far as I can tell there are three totally different ways to do E2EE:
a)OTR : "[xmpp.org/extensions/xep-0364.h…](Not intended to be a current standard), or technical specification, as better (albeit, newer and less well tested) methods of end-to-end encryption exist for XMPP. "
b)OpenPGP: There are at least two different XEPs about it. XEP-0027 is obsolete, while XEP-0373 is "experimental" but hasn't been updated in almost three years.
c)OMEMO: "Experimental" and hasn't been updated in over two years.
Is there a way to do E2EE in XMPP which is neither deprecated nor experimental? What's the "Current stable" way to do it?

Here are a few pics of one of NASA's WB-57 aircraft.
The WB-57 is a mid-wing, long-range aircraft, developed in the 1960s, originally used by the USAF. The WB-57 can fly for ~6.5 hours, at altitudes exceeding 60,000 feet, has a range of ~2500 miles, and can carry up to 8,800 lbs of payload.
NASA's 3 WB-57s are based at Ellington Field, near Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, as part of their High Altitude Research Program.

Did you know that total eclipses occur more often in the northern hemisphere than the southern one? Or that annular eclipses occur more often at 50°S to 80°S than the equator?
This paper from 1982 shows the frequency of total and annular eclipses, as a function of latitude, between 1700 and 2299 AD. The data is based on calculations at various discrete latitude and longitude points on earth.
Total eclipses occur more often in the northern hemisphere than the southern one because - - Eclipses are more likely in summer, because the Sun is up longer then. - Summer in the northern hemisphere happens when the Earth is near aphelion, its farthest distance from the Sun for the year, the Sun is a bit smaller in the sky, which favors the occurrence of total solar eclipses and disfavors annular ones. - The opposite holds for the southern hemisphere.
The following graphic shows a heatmap of the density of total solar eclipse paths over Earth during the 5000-year period between 2,000 BCE and 3,000 CE. Lighter shades mean higher density.
The bias towards the northern hemisphere is clear. The values for longitude points are slightly smeared because the graph has not been corrected for the variance in rotational speed of the Earth.
On average, a given spot on Earth experiences a total eclipse every 366 years.
In addition to the WB-57 aircraft based observations, the NASA Atmospheric Perturbations around Eclipse Path (APEP) campaign will use sounding rockets to study the ionosphere during the eclipse.
3 sounding rockets will be launched from Wallops Island, VA - 45 minutes before, during, and 45 minutes after the peak local eclipse.
4 independent payloads will be deployed by each rocket at 107 km, which will climb to 325 km, taking msmts on the way up and down to 70 km.

One last tidbit of info - the Moon is receding away from earth by about 3.8 cm each year due to tidal interactions (the rate decreases with time). It has been receding from the day it was born, when it was 10x closer.
So, over time, total solar eclipse duration will get shorter and the probability of total eclipses will decrease.
In the distant future, about 0.62 - 1.2 billion years from now, there will be no total solar eclipses, just annular and partial ones.
Scientists are studying how the Earth–Moon distance has changed over time, and what effect that change might have had on our planet. Future changes will extinguish total solar eclipses entirely.

Baily's beads shine in the near-total eclipse images, as sunlight beams thru gaps in the jagged terrain along the edge of the moon. Solar prominences add a dramatic effect to the images.

Those were solar prominences, loops of hot ionized gases which follow the magnetic fields associated with pairs of sunspots and fall back into the photosphere. A typical solar prominence is ~100K km in size. Larger ones can reach 500K km.
Solar flares are more energetic events; they eject material into space, often reaching earth and causing auroras and radio disruption.

Referring to fediblock and TBS friendly instances as "fedi HOA" is racist and I can explain how

Some white folks are continuing to use "fedi HOA" to describe the group of us who are trying to make the fedi a safer place for BIPOC. Seemingly, they have chosen to disregard the previous critiques that have circulated naming that practice as antiblack. So, I am going to quote myself from September of last year.
"Our Anti-White Grievance of the Day today is (get your white supremacist bingo cards ready, folks)........APPROPRIATION!
And just in case you're going to pretend you don't believe me, I'll give you a previous example and the current example. For the ones that need their hands held.
Our previous example is the word "woke". Woke originated with AAVE some time ago and more recently, in the past several years, has been distorted into almost unrecognizability as an anti-black dogwhistle. How did this happen, you may ask? Why, it's not complicated at all: the covert racists found out a word Black people were using and copied it! Now, similarly to how these instances of racist telephone typically go, they took the word but lost some of the nuance from the term. This led to them frequently misusing it publicly. And once that had started happening, why there was nothing for it but for the overt racists to go ahead and coopt it from the covert racists (who they are obsessed with, by the way) so they could have their dogwhistle term du jour ('politically correct' was starting to wear out). This dogwhistle, mind you, has very little to do with its original usage, but of course they can't tell the difference so they don't care. And so we can see how this was an example of appropriation.
Our more recent example of this phenomenon is none other than the nasty little number lots of you are tossing about right now, fedi HOA. I'm not the first person to point this out of course, but since when have white people bothered listening the first time? For 10 ally points, can anyone in the class tell me the history of homeowner's associations, housing, and white supremacy? Anyone? Well, in case you don't know, feel free to look it up. Throw in redlining, the wealth gap, and the GI bill while you're at it. Those who do so or are already aware, you can understand why a lot of Black folks who tried fedi have spoken about the feeling of HOA-style treatment they received. Some of you were even the ones doing it! And now, in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY AS THE PREVIOUS EXAMPLE, several of you white fedizens started to use the term fedi HOA. Only it's not quite the same thing when you all use it. Lost a bit of nuance, hasn't it? You're not actually talking about a historical comparison of systematic racial discrimination in physical space to systematic racial discrimination in digital space, are you? No, you're using it to mean that Black people and people of color are creating and enforcing boundaries that you don't like.
So, you can understand why that's not the same thing, right? Some of the nuance got lost in the shuffle? Now, can someone tell me (for 50 ally points this time!) why that's bad? Can anyone identify how appropriation enabled antiblack discrimination in both cases? Anyone at all? How about how abusive it is to get this aggressive over someone else's boundaries? No? Yes?
To be honest with you, I'm actually very tired of talking about racism on fedi. I am! Believe it or not, I am.
You know, I have other things I could talk about. I could talk about education or mental health, which is actually my field of expertise.

in reply to AkaSci 🛰️ • • •One last tidbit of info - the Moon is receding away from earth by about 3.8 cm each year due to tidal interactions (the rate decreases with time). It has been receding from the day it was born, when it was 10x closer.
So, over time, total solar eclipse duration will get shorter and the probability of total eclipses will decrease.
In the distant future, about 0.62 - 1.2 billion years from now, there will be no total solar eclipses, just annular and partial ones.

The images were taken by Daniel Korona from the city of Durano in Mexico, halfway between Mazatlán and Torreón.
Baily's beads shine in the near-total eclipse images, as sunlight beams thru gaps in the jagged terrain along the edge of the moon. Solar prominences add a dramatic effect to the images.

Those were solar prominences, loops of hot ionized gases which follow the magnetic fields associated with pairs of sunspots and fall back into the photosphere. A typical solar prominence is ~100K km in size. Larger ones can reach 500K km.
Solar flares are more energetic events; they eject material into space, often reaching earth and causing auroras and radio disruption.
