This is not the life we deserve to live. We are human beings and we deserve a better life. This life isn't like us. We had beautiful life. We had beautiful home. We had beautiful people and places. Now we only have a tent that we move from a place to another. We lost everything.

I was curious about whether there were any developments in inexpensive braille, so I searched for "low cost braille display". The top result was, of course, Orbit. The second? Humanware. That made me laugh. Looks like Orbit and BrailleMe are still it, and I still don't like Orbit's lack of cursor keys, refresh sound, and keyboard. I've never tried BrailleMe. It's sad that the new ideas for this technology never seem to pan out. Pun intended.

Ugh. It's a zero motivation, getting my ass handed to me by depression day. I woke up at 10, and I've been lying here in bed trying to find reason and motivation to get up and do something since. It's a rainy miserable day here today. And while I could probably very easily blame my mood on the weather, I won't. I really detest this why bother, what's the point mood that I get into sometimes. Like you know that point where you feel like all you need is something good to happen to you or a little bit of good news to feel better? Yeah, that. It's times when I feel like this that I really understand why people self medicate to feel better. Oh well, I'll probably do that myself when I do eventually rise because why the fuck not? Hope everyone has/is having an awesome day.

На этот раз под предлогом проверки прикрепления к поликлинике.
Слово за слово, как-то передают звонок из рук в руки, и дальше снова начинается: на вас взяли доверенность, зашли в Госуслуги, у них есть все ваши документы...

На этот раз дальше дело не зашло (мы всё перепроверили, никаких доверенностей, никаких входов).

Но как же я этих сволочей ненавижу.
Пожилые люди гораздо медленнее соображают, их легко запутать и запугать.
Помогайте своим бдить.

Не помню, рассказывал уже или нет, как я тут чуть не лопнул от гордости за свою маман. Позвонили ей такие, прикинулись родственником. А она: «Как зовут моего сына? Как зовут мою дочь?». Молодец, только так и надо. С госуслугами, честно, сложнее, но если я правильно понимаю, легально же никто с госуслуг в принципе не звонит по телефону.

@menelion а с госуслуг и не звонят. Звонят «из поликлиники». Первичная бдительность усыплена, а потом (не сразу, сначала обсудят все детали вопроса с «поликлиникой») резко пугают, и дальше уже надо иметь хорошие нервы чтобы с этого соскочить

@dside @mo @menelion как я понимаю раньше такой развод был частный - проверка газа итд. Но там приходили и смотрели на газовый котёл после чего вздыхали и говорили что очень очень очень надо котел менять.

Моей маме так пришли с "проверкой", типа нашли утечку газа и поменяли подводку газа за 5 т.р. Показали удостоверение типа "ГБУ ГосГаз №13" с фото и печатью, в форме был и т.п. Причём по времени как раз шли обычные проверки, это тем более подозрения не вызвало.

Хуже всего, что после этого ушлёпка утечка реально появилась и заметная уже не приборам, а носу, и вскоре явившийся реальный газовщик поменял подводку ещё раз, рублей за триста.

До того, разумеется, никакой утечки не было.

I'm reading Eichmann in Jerusalem, & something I wish I had been aware of sooner is that this is not just an important text about Nazis & the evils that ordinary people can commit without batting an eye.

It is *also* an important text about Israel & its history. Hannah Arendt is also critiquing Eichmann's trial as a type of show trial & pointing at the Zionist ideology & propaganda on display.

Is anyone aware of works by Black or Indigenous authors (or other POC) that either deal directly with Arendt & her ideas about the "banality of evil" or that cover similar topics?

I'm interested in the psychology of "normal" people who participate in, support, or tolerate genocide happening around them, & would especially benefit from perspectives of colonized people on this.

mixed feelings. obv will go downhill under Qualcomm: end of era. OTOH I can respect if Arduino's founders/owners wanted to get rich, esp as a way of de-risking the lives of them and their loved ones. cuz very risky/chaotic things on the horizon, across near and medium term scales

there will always be other teams out there trying to make the next Arduino. not surprised if a few exist already

Despite the recent media reporting, #Windows installation with local accounts is working just fine. Create a regular Windows installation media and drop autounattend.xml to the root of the USB device and install it.

You can craft the autounattend.xml yourself or use a service like schneegans.de/windows/unattend… to generate it.

If the installation demands you to connect to the internet, you can bypass this part by pressing Shift+F10 and then entering oobe\bypassnro + <return>. After the installer restart, you'll have the "I don't have internet" option, and the installation will proceed.

EDIT: To clarify: While I did not test the latest insider build I believe this method will continue to work, even with it. I'll be sure to edit the post if this turns out to be incorrect.

Freshly installed Windows 11 25H2 with local only user accounts.

If you have an iPhone 16 (of any kind), this is your reminder that you can set up an automation in the Shortcuts app that turns on silent mode when you leave home, and another one that turns it back off when you arrive.

I used to keep my phone on silent all the time, mostly to save myself the embarassment of forgetting to flip the switch before an important meeting. With the physical switch gone, this is no longer necessary.

Now that I'm in the Swiss healthcare system… no wonder Germany has a shortage of doctors and nurses. They're all here! 😂

(My dentist, substitute primary care physician, and psychiatrist are all Germans… only the primary care physician is Swiss… same for a whole bunch of the nurses…)
