I started making a GTFS browser – GTFS being a format for timetable data invented for Google Maps, basically a SQL table dump in CSV format and therefore unreadable without tools – only to find out that SNCF’s timetable covers 30 days for TGVs and 60 days for TERs.
So, they managed to fulfil the EU requirements without actually publishing really useful data. Just in case you were wondering why these regulations have to be hundreds of pages and lawmaking is so difficult.

Note that on SQLite, when you start up your instance an analyze will run when you switch to this version. The analyze might take a good few minutes to run, depending on how large your SQLite database is, and how performant your system is. Please be patient and don't interrupt it, it's optimizing your database :)

Re last boost (about VMWare switching all their products to subscriptions), the page that was posted there talks about simplifying the VMWare portfolio, but at the same time doesn't mention any end-user products like fusion or workstation instead talking exclusively about the B2B products (B2B means selling to businesses.) In VSCode, you can use ctrl-k, ctrl-b to mark the start of a selection. You can then navigate normally to find the end of what you want selected, and press ctrl-k, ctrl-k. The text is selected. How did I not know this?! I've been shift-arrowing for years!
Yes, but at least for me it works *only* if you don't release the Control key! I.e., press Control, hold it, keep holding, and press kb or kk accordingly. Otherwise it doesn't work for me. Also, I used the same functionality in JAWS and keep using it outside VS Code.
@menelion Yes, I think that's how all the multi-layer keys in VSCode work. I don't use them often, but when I do, I have to hold the control key. NVDA offers similar mark setting, but I've not found it to be too reliable with large blocks of text.

That post is a little over 3 years old, though. Anyone know if the free desktop community has made any more progress, e.g. establishing guidelines on when to use Wayland versus D-Bus? I see that sway (and wlroots more generally) uses strictly Wayland protocol extensions, while Mutter/GNOME Shell heavily uses D-Bus.

I did understand a lot, actually. The only thing I noticed is that many A's (like the letter А) sound to me like Ъ for some reason. Is it a recent feature of Bulgarian, a particular dialect or what?
For instance, listen how he says "найнизката жена". I hear a clear A only in the very first and the very last syllable. BTW, my wife once watched a video with that lady, and the thing that impressed me the most was her voice.

That is interesting. Your average donation for 2023 is about 33% of lifetime licenses of some proprietary email software that have several features and a better UX than Thunderbird. This means that if @thunderbird only makes pragmatic sense if it is free or reaches feature parity instantly and maintains it for 3 years compared to alternatives.

@jwz @virtulis we (the project) considered spinning out, and Mozilla was fine with that. But the help we get versus being on our own makes it worthwhile to be related.
Finally, each entity does what benefits it. Thunderbird history has shown that the Corporation spending money on Thunderbird isn't beneficial to it. Which makes sense. We (the Thunderbird community and MZLA employees) have found a way to exist and grow with (so far) complete freedom. As I see it, that's a win.

Thanks for not giving up on AI entirely. Mozilla already contains some AI, specifically the local translation tool, which is a lot better than sending data to the cloud to do it. That said, could have done with alt text on the image on this toot. I don't know what it is.
I refuse to use Firefox because it doesn’t have AI. Until alt text is universal, I consider a browser that doesn’t offer image description to be failing my accessibility needs.
It is tied to LLMs. Image description is done via multimodal AI, which has an LLM component to generate the text. Same thing for translation systems, they use neural networks and language models as well.
I want AI. Mozilla's local translation is AI and I want it. Why? Because I don't want to send my text to the cloud to translate it. I also want image descriptions. Why? Because lots of images are undescribed and I want to be able to get descriptions for things in my local environment.
