I don't know if anybody noticed #ZeroFS yet, but it seems there is a completely user space-implementation of #NFS and #blockstorage on top of #S3 #objectstorage: github.com/Barre/zerofs

Including a demo running #ZFS on top of it which essentially allows geo-redundant ZFS volumes: asciinema.org/a/728234 & github.com/Barre/zerofs?tab=re…

I don't see no #FreeBSD port yet, but if that really works it would be absolutely awesome.

The Orbit Player user guide/manual is now released. It is located on the Orbit player support page, which I had to google to find. The Orbit player and Orbit speak are not listed on the Orbit research support page but all or I think most of their other products are. Googling has been the only way I have been able to find any support pages for the player or speak. Player support page is linked below. Find the heading documentation, hit the link download player user guide and a page will be loaded where you can choose your format. Thoughts on the manual in next post.

stole your meme, yadda yadda cuz GLUE PEOPLE is who we once called ELDERS.

a hallmark of #fascism is the belief #history is a thing that lives outside of us; and that, thru violent means, only the “winners” write and impose as The Truth.

but History isn’t a thing.

history exists in being, living, doing.

books, archives, GIT repos are great, but give us a false sense of security. when “life happens”, we need Elders to wing solutions.

there is no institutional memory, only Elders.

Montreal transit: ARTM awards $146M contract to replace OPUS system

Because what we need is more bloat and privacy infringing tech, and e-waste instead of better transit.

This from the same that still don't want to provide a contract to their workers.

At 14:00 DebConf Time (12:00 UTC), the "Salsa CI BoF" will be held in Grand amphi, and at 15:00 the "Bits from APT" will inform us about APT news (APT 3.0 is out!). Ah cool, Archlinux had another oopsie-whoopsie that was only communicated on the mailing lists.

They found malware on the AUR. Reminder that anyone can put stuff on the AUR and when an AUR client offers to let you inspect the package build scripts, it's because it's no one's job to make sure the package is safe.

"But people tell me to install stuff off the AUR all the time and I'm no dev that can understand these scripts" -- Yup! This is one of Arch's primary problems. It's why they make it non-trivial to bootstrap into getting stuff off AUR to begin with, but that's not enough when 98% of Arch users need something off it.

Weh.

Three minutes to join the zoom meeting for those interested in how I compose on-the-fly with absolutely zero idea of what's gonna happen... soundwithoutsight.org/news/nex…
in reply to Andre Louis

If you missed my presentation for Sound Without Sight in front of a live audience last Thursday and are interested to hear how I created a track in about one hour with absolutely no prior knowledge of what I'd be doing, here's a recording.
For this I used Logic Pro, Komplete Kontrol and the Kontrol S61 MK3 keyboard.

If you need proof why you should block the BlueSky-bridge (and why we are doing it on all our servers)👇 -- read the whole thread mastodon.social/@randahl/11487…
in reply to i. celeste aurora [witchzard]

I think the real lesson of that thread is exactly what they said at the end, about the importance of asking questions first. Yes, the bug happened to be in the Bluesky bridge this time. But it could have been in a popular Mastodon client instead. One could in fact think of the Bluesky bridge as a popular alternative Mastodon client. It seems to me that the real problem was the angry mob taking action too quickly, causing the situation to escalate before the author could do anything.

I would like to urge my followers to strongly avoid #TRMNL.

TRMNL calls itself "unbrickable" and Open Source, telling you you can host your own server and that basically everything is fully supported: web.archive.org/web/2025071818…. This is not true. The only thing a local server can do is send images to the device and *proxy from their proprietary server*: web.archive.org/web/2025071806….

To add insult to injury, TRMNL is trying to refuse me a refund, in gross violation of EU law.

@ziltoidium The XIAO panel allows you to manually build a dashboard with Home Assistant entities (wiki.seeedstudio.com/xiao_075i…) but that seemed like a lot of annoying manual labor. I much prefer some pre-designed dashboards to save time, which is why I went with Fruitstand :)

„Dobrý den, Wolt, jsem dole s tím jídlem.“
„S jakým jídlem?“
„No… vezu vám pizzu.“
... šustění... šramot...
„EMILE!!! Já tě přetrhnu jak hada! Tys objednal pizzu z mýho telefonu?!“
„Ale mamííí... byla v akci! “
„Je to jídlo zaplacené?“
"Ano madam, je to v pořádku. “
„Tak si tu pizzu snězte.“
V povzdálí...
„Mamííí to néééé!“

At a bar and need help? Order an "Angel shot".

-"with lime" means call the police.

- "on the rocks" means you need a taxi called.

- "neat" means you need an escort to your car.

You can also ask for Angela, as in "is Angela working tonight?"

OMG, I just came across a podcast called Flesh and Code about people having relationships with LLMs on platforms like Replika. R/Replika has over 80K members! It’s both sad and wild. Maybe because I’ve been playing with dumb LLMs since GPT-2 and understand how they work better than average people, LLMS never really worked for me. lol Since Grok on X now has a porn companionship feature that anyone 12+ can access, I guess things can get worse from here. #LLM #ML #AI reddit.com/r/replika/

Idk if you like filtered water things but I've always kinda hated Brita and Pur because the filters are so small and seem to underperform. I picked up an Epic which has HUGE filters in comparison and while it is more expensive its comparative for what you're supposed to get.

Brita/Pur is like 40 gallons of filtering, Epic is 150 at ~4x the cost per filter

I have my own LiveView Plex dashboard so I can start adding my own little monitoring and management controls here instead of having to login to their annoying web interface

Also people who don't have PlexPass can't use the PlexDash app which gives you management and observation capabilities, but if you just access their APIs yourself you can have it...

The Imperative of NIST-Approved Post-Quantum Resistant Algorithms for Securing Mobile Devices

In the rapidly evolving landscape of cybersecurity, the advent of quantum computing presents both unprecedented opportunities and significant threats. As we stand on the brink of a quantum revolution, the need for robust, quantum-resistant cryptographic solutions has never been more urgent.
