Still playing with GNOME 48, and notice that orca doesn't realize the items on the top bar, including time and battery state, Are not refreshed, in the screen reader, until orca is cycled off and on. I don't think this issue is particular to #debian but, maybe, someone running a different distro can confirm. #gnu #linux #accessibility #screenreaders #gnomedesktop

The weather's cloudy a lukewarm. Perfect for today's stream where I create a "yes, but no" resource for everyone who tells me to just switch to #linux :P
Nah but seriously we'll look at a number of first-time experiences (install, initial boot into the OS ec.) of various popular and less popular distros. I will comment on the #accessibility considerations primarily for #screenReader users and I'm sure other things'll come up. See you bright-eyed and bushy-tailed around 3 PM EST/8P BST/9pm CEST over at twitch.tv/ic_null or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding. From the Debian mailing list: Proposal: Debian-AI — A Free and Open-Source AI Operating System

So people think of AI before accessibility. I'm not surprised, but still, just another reminder. And I know it's just a proposal, nothing concrete, but we don't see proposals for accessibility, like, at all. So yeah foss, keep going with that End of Ten evangelism, keep showing disabled users how y'all are. I hope governments in Europe have to return to Windows due to accessibility issues in Linux, and that it hits the news hard. Maybe then you'll wake up.

the other way around with Debian being the Master, would be advantageous. #Debian #Linux

Ich liebe auch Linux. Ich nutze seit 2013 #Debian und bin sehr zufrieden. 🙂

@kpcyrd
Sure. I assume, that at some point they will be needed. In fact, one of the #XMPPrs crates (#JID.rs) is already needed for the #slixmpp package.
We only use the (slower) #Python fallback in #Debian instead, because the crate would not have made it in time for #trixie.

There will be a Debian booth at the 26th edition of Journées du Logiciel Libre at Lyon (France) on the 24th and 25th May 2025 with the @DebianFrance team. Pass by and meet other Debian users and contributors! jdll.org/programme #debian

How do you explain the release with a known defective kernel ? How is it it was not postponed ? I thought #Debian was all about stability, and not about "yadayada we told that date, we launch that date, bug or not"... ?
