in reply to Deutschlandfunk (inoffiziell)

Is there any chance we can encourage you to trend #NVIDIA when that's the company you mean, please? I know what their NASDAQ handle is, but #NVDA is much more widely known as the name of the screen reader we make and the #NVDA hashtag is very widely used for the screen reader. It will save both our communities polluting each other's feeds. If you'd like to find out more about the screen reader, our website is nvaccess.org/ - Thank you!

The fastest non-Google controlled web rendering engine Servo is trying to compete with only $1.6k funding a month:

Yes, they did have an NLNet grant, but that ran out.

If we want an alternative to Blink/Chrome, we need to fund it. This is a project where even a tiny regular amount could yield oversize returns:

in reply to Rust Weekly 🦀

Good article! I largely agree, though I wouldn't say so much it's about correctness rather than memory safety. Yes, correctness is the keystone, but that Rust is apt for low-level use, fast, expressiv, and so on, is not just a coincidence, but a great feat of engineering. It's the combination between the correctness focus and the valuable industrial properties that makes it, if not unique, at least unusually fit.

XZ 5.6.2 Released With The Frightening Backdoor Removed

It was two months ago today that an urgent security alert was issued over XZ being hit by malicious code that turned out to be a backdoor within liblzma added by a bad actor that worked his way into XZ co-maintainership. Longtime XZ developer Lasse Collin is back at the helm and has been auditing the prior XZ commits and today released XZ 5.6.2 with the backdoor completely removed...

Arguments about taste are more common than ever before. The long tail makes it easy to find what you like, and to talk about what you don't. There's no accounting for taste, and that's a good thing. Because taste is useful. Flopping the toilet paper under or over the roll, Beatles vs. Stones, Chevy vs. Ford... the interactions and tribal identity that result from these discussions satisfies our need to be seen, to have agency and to be part of something.
