Microsoft Ava (Natural HD) and Microsoft Andrew (Natural HD) can now be used offline with NVDA and JAWS, via the SAPI Adapter utility. The voices come from Windows 11 Insider builds. You need to go the Google Drive page whose link will be provided at the end, and grab both voice packages and REG packages from there. Unzip the voices into the C:\TTS folder (or edit the path in the reg files). You should have the following folders: C:\TTS\AndrewHD C:\TTS\AvaHD Add all the reg files from AvaHD_reg.zip and AndrewHD_reg.zip to the registry. They are called HD for a reason. They sound amazingly natural, though not as perfectly lively as their online counterparts, and each voice is about 230MB. This is my main issue with all the LLM ("AI") use. I don't even care if people use it for their own projects, but so many people use it to offload their critical thinking to maintainers.
If you use LLM to generate your code that someone else has to review you're not saving time, you're *offloading* the time you "saved" to the reviewer who has to figure out if it is correct.
*You* as *submitter* need to be sure it is correct. Using an LLM does not absolve you of your responsibility to research.

@archos jj, Pixel 10 začne po 300 cyklech snižovat výkon nabíjení, aby se šetřila baterie. V oficiální deklaraci pro EU mají životnost 1000 cyklů, zatímco třeba Samsung 2000. Nevím, proč používají citelně horší baterie než konkurence. Přitom ty mobily nejsou levné.
@archos @sesivany No a to se jim občas zadaří třeba tak, že celá série baterií je špatná a aktualizace softwaru způsobí, že baterie vydrží pár hodin. Ale je fakt, že se k tomu Google postavil celkem solidně (v rámci možností) a umožnil v některých regionech výměnu baterie, případně slevu na nákup nového telefonu, nebo (v mém případě) vrácení části zaplacené částky zpět.

It took me a year or so from decision to actually doing it. It's cool that favourites and playlists can be migrated using #TuneMyMusic for few dollars. But I had shared playlists with several people, I used the jam feature from time to time etc.. The social aspect of any service is always the best way to lock users in a one platform, and It worked on me also. But this situation of being a hostage somewhere is uncomfortable for me so much, that I did the switch finally. 🫂
Now I am in phase of discovery of the Tidal service. Maybe I will find some missing killer feature and I will return, but I am fully decided to give it proper trial. 😅
Spotify as a mainstream service has advantage of wide device support, that could be one of the challenges. 🤷
On the other hand I immediately liked, they have a DJ plan to allow you mix the music in supported DJ software. Sadly my favourite software @mixxx is not supported. 🎛️
I've been with Tidal for almost two years and I think the only missing killer feature is the ubiquity of Spotify Connect. My mom has a Lidl radio that only supports Spotify. But I solved it by a Bluetooth-to-jack device from Ali for 120 CZK. The audio quality is a big plus of Tidal. If you have a good DAC and speakers, you can hear the difference.
By the way, what also helped a bit with the switch is, that all podcasts started to monetize, thus on spotify there is always only a short preview version of the podcast. Full one is usally available as a user specific rss link.
