Speaking of jumping ship, I store all my files in #Microsoft #OneDrive and would like to get rid of that dependency as I'm working to replace my workflow with #FLOSS tools where practical. Do y'all have recommendations for a #CloudStorage service which has reasonably #accessible clients for #ScreenReader users (I primarily use #Fedora Workstation 43 but also use #Windows 11, #Android, and #iOS), can sync to my local filesystem, and/or can appear in the #GNOME desktop File Manager? I'm not interested in self-hosting something like #Nextcloud, #OwnCloud, etc. Any suggestions or firsthand experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Guess what, #Nextcloud? #OneDrive has a "Copy Link" in the file context menu. And guess what? They also open a dialog, like with whom to share, for editing or for viewing, but this dialog is fully accessible. Webbish, yes (I would prefer a native Windows API one), but fully accessible. And guess what even more? #GoogleDrive also has "Copy Link" in their context menu. Aren't they secure enough? I don't know. But they are *convenient*. And *accessible*. UPD. this post was inspired by my struggles with sharing Nextcloud links and by this ongoing discussion. By the way, what also helped a bit with the switch is, that all podcasts started to monetize, thus on spotify there is always only a short preview version of the podcast. Full one is usally available as a user specific rss link. This pushed me to find separate podcast solution and I am much happier with the solution I found: #NextCloud + Gpodder sync plugin as synchronization server NextCloud + Podcasts plugin for web browser listening on desktop #AntennaPod for on the go listening on Android
Yesterday I had to share a public link to a file on #Nextcloud. As they removed this from the context menu, it became a huge pain in the back. #Windows #Accessibility
use case is a big deal. Sometimes is hard to sell your company anything besides GWS. But #NextCloud if you can push it. If you need no cloud, even better! #LibreOffice all the way! And I've become the dork who pays for my email with #Fastmail, but I love the masked emails feature, and hoping to adopt #JMAP soon!
Früher zeigte das #NextCloud Symbol in der #ubuntu Desktop-Statusleiste vollflächig durch grün, gelb und rot an, wie der aktuelle Stand der Syncronisation ist.
Seit einiger Zeit wurde es durch das Logo ersetzt, welches eine Art mini winzigen Badge, wahrscheinlich ein grünes Häkchen trägt, wenn die Sync i.O ist.

I can't decide whether I want to keep this #NextCloud. While I like the general idea, the Windows Desktop client still has a bunch of unlabeled buttons, you don't seem to be able to just simply copy a public share URL from the context menu like with other solutions, and so on. I hear some blind people using it despite that. Are there any tweaks / #NVDA Add-Ons or anything else I could do to make it more accessible? Yes I could try and open GH issues but honestly the way how they treated the issue about the removal of the copy public link context menu thing makes me doubt anything productive will come out. #Blind #Accessibility Edit: While I'm still interested in any responses to this question, I did not go with Nextcloud in the end, I prefer solutions which do only one thing and that properly and accessible, and while Seafile isn't perfect it's surely better for my needs. I would like to do all my Word Processing and Spreadsheeting and so forth through a web interface, which is served from my #Debian server (docker is fine) and saves the documents as normal files in a defined directory.
Does such a thing exist? I do NOT need feature-rich, I do not need it to save MSOffice docs that I can send to a printing shop with all bugs intact, I just want to stop losing shit to hard drive wipes, which I'm sorry but nuking my hard drive is a lifestyle choice at this point and I don't care what you think about it.

I finally started to use #NextCloud #CookBook app together with the android companion app. Up until now I always searched internet for recepies, picked one, coocked one, done. But using this app improves the workflow a lot. 1️⃣ You search the recipe once, and then you past the url to the app to download it. 2️⃣ You build a catalogue of favourite recipes which simplyfies decisions on what to cook. No idea what to cook? Just browse favourite recipes and pick something. 3️⃣ You can share recipes among family members 4️⃣ Your recipe is always with you. For example when you're shopping. 5️⃣ No ADS. Recipe pages are cluttered with banners and popups so much, that you can barely read the recipe on the phone. Cookbook just fetches the information from the web and leaves all ads behind.
And there we are. I have a Nextcloud again. If anyone has any accessibility tips, apps or other recommendations I should try out they're very welcome. #Accessibility #Nextcloud

That's very admirable. So many (big) Open Source projects just don't prioritize their "Issues" count/triage process (or think they don't have the resources) and it becomes an outdated and duplication-riddled hell. Looking at you, #Nextcloud.

#NextCloud really drove me angry. They simply choose to ignore accessibility concerns in favor of so-called "security". It's absolutely none of their business to protect users from viruses and trojans, and saying that "We can't allow one-press copy public link because a script can call this API" is total BS, because in this case any attacker script has access to every file on that PC! Great job, NextCloud, great job. Whenever someone tells me once more about "giving up big corporations", I'll point them to this issue. #nextcloud made it possible for me to (self-)host my (and my family's) phone calendars, contacts, and even when pictures are taken, they get uploaded to our Nextcloud instance, and NOT to google/apple.

Why to bother with such complication for apps serving only a couple of users? First it's quite easy nowadays. And second, because I want to get rid of passwords and just use #passkeys .
This is one of many examples showing that good apps should just focus on one task and just use standards to cooperate with other apps focusing on other tasks.
Peertube for example focuses on videos, not user management. I am very OK that they don't support passkeys, because they implemented OpenId Connect standard to allow me use Keycloak for better login options.
On the other hand, I am quite sad that SSO is often the one feature, that is proprietary and reserved only for paying customers. SSO is not for huge corporations anymore. It's also usefull for us, selfhosters with couple of users.
