You know, I keep hearing people say that it takes a certain kind of person to learn to code, and I just can’t accept that in my reality. I believe that anyone can learn how to code. It just involves finding out how coding can work for the problems you are trying to solve, or how you want to create something from nothing. It will even make you a better vibe coder.
It seems that if you type "elon nazi" in the GIF tab of the android whatsapp keyboard, you get no result. If you type "elon salute" you get some stuff like this that looks like it is the video you're looking for, but is actually edited so you only see a "hand on my heart" gesture. Rewriting history is actually easier in the real world than in 1984 (the book). It does not matter if truth is still findable below the pile of lies and slop.
I occasionally use the scanner on mine and want to have one with a scanner. I wonder if there's something I should upgrade to, though. I have an HP, and I didn't realize it at the time, but people tell me that HP isn't a very good brand these days. And mine has trouble fetching the paper and tends to complain that it is out of paper even though I have paper in the tray. And I run out of ink even though I rarely use it, but, still, it's convenient not to have to run out to the store on the rare occasion that I need to print something. Sorry--this probably has very little to do with your post.
@MikeGorse we have two printers that are, by accident, multi-function, and, not by accident, two-sided printers. An old HP Laserjet 1536dnf MDF, black and white. Super reliable. Complains about refilled toner cartridges but they work. Clean the rollers half-assedly every 5 years and it keeps chugging.
Also, an HP color inkjet with refillable tanks, from a year or two ago, a total unreliable piece of shit that prints nicely. Needs Bluetooth to configure because it has no screen. Plate tray.
@MikeGorse The inkjet that is only configurable via Bluetooth (or the web interface once you manage to tell it the wifi password via Bluetooth and the stupid HP phone app) forgets its IP address every few months. I've put some instructions on our home web server for how to make it work in case I'm travelling or something and Homework Needs To Be Printed(tm).
The FreeBSD Foundation announced they're funding development of a new agentic AI based on an Alibaba model which will run in your kernel called Kirk.
There will be no way to remove it from the OS beginning with FreeBSD 16.0, because this model is completely replacing the TCP/IP stack and the CPU scheduler. All of these decisions will now processed by Kirk. Instead of being based on the time-tested monolithic kernel design, this will be the beginning of a new era of hybrid-cystolithic kernels.

Any good options out there for an RSS feed reader similar to Leary on iOS? In particular, I want to be able to have the text extracted from the website and presented as pure text only. Anything like that for Windows? Tried one on NVDA but while the layout is good of the feed, the articles still go back to the original website.
@thunderbird I had to rollback from 140.7.0esr to 140.6.0esr. New emails did not load on startup and I had to click on folders manually to load new messages.

I see they've dressed up the landing page there! Now more obviously non-AI. I mean, it's a selling feature, so yeah, go to town guys.

An accidentally discovered workaround that probably shouldn't even be mentioned as an actual one but got me through an hour-long webinar recording today: when an ad comes up on Youtube and your video is a part of a playlist, navigating to the next video skips it and loads the next one. As a result, if you skip to the next video when it's time to skip the ad and then return back to your video, the playback resumes. This obviously works also with remote controls on headphones.

I have recently figured out that I can somehow still get a student YT premium subscription through my employee account, because SheerID apparently doesn't check permissions for us properly, so that's my workaround now.
@MariahL I now use an ad blocker, but in Safari, if you encounter an ad, especially at the beginning of a video, refreshing the page seems to skip the ad. Almost every time I've tried it, this has worked for me without fail. I have no idea how nobody at google has fixed this. Unless somehow they can't.
Mother nature has been extremely inconsiderate. I ordered a new amateur Radio to replace my ageing one. Should have arrived yesterday but we got piles of snow. Hopefully will show up today.

Yeah, escalators cause me trepidation too. I mean, I am fully capable of using them safely, but I always, every single time, hesitate for at least one second while I really consider, before stepping on one. The moving mechanisms are simply too close to the passengers to provide enough reasonable barrier between safety and danger. Elevators are certainly safer modes of inter-floor transport, as the passenger car is fully separated from any mechanism. That is not to say that elevators do not fail either, but I would tend to think they have a less tarnished safety record than escalators on the whole.
@adam Yeah, especially what scares me is those, I believe they are called travolators, where you don't have steps, but rather a sliding ribbon. I have very slight coordination problems, and when this beast goes down, my inner orientation system freaks out.

I think one of the biggest changes in how I communicate online came after moving to Fedi. For the most part now I am able to have serious conversations with people who share my values, without being constantly pulled into squabbles with assholes who are wasting my time.
some of these graphs are truly helpful to us, some of them I think show "interesting stuff" that we can extract from an old well maintained source code written in C even though that data might not really help us.
Then there is a subset of graphs that are mostly silly and they are there simply because I'm obsessed with graphs.
Just 6 graphs left to the big 100. Isn't that what all projects aim for?
They have inspired me to finally get rid of the remaining calls to strcat and other stupid functions in my own code. This also got rid of lots of data copying, making the code faster. Good graphs.
