Microsoft Ava (Natural HD) and Microsoft Andrew (Natural HD) can now be used offline with NVDA and JAWS, via the SAPI Adapter utility. The voices come from Windows 11 Insider builds.
You need to go the Google Drive page whose link will be provided at the end, and grab both voice packages and REG packages from there.
Unzip the voices into the C:\TTS folder (or edit the path in the reg files).
You should have the following folders:
C:\TTS\AndrewHD
C:\TTS\AvaHD
Add all the reg files from AvaHD_reg.zip and AndrewHD_reg.zip to the registry.
They are called HD for a reason. They sound amazingly natural, though not as perfectly lively as their online counterparts, and each voice is about 230MB. Ava offline doesn't breathe unlike its online counterpart either.

RE: mastodon.social/@bagder/115745…

This is my main issue with all the LLM ("AI") use. I don't even care if people use it for their own projects, but so many people use it to offload their critical thinking to maintainers.

If you use LLM to generate your code that someone else has to review you're not saving time, you're *offloading* the time you "saved" to the reviewer who has to figure out if it is correct.

*You* as *submitter* need to be sure it is correct. Using an LLM does not absolve you of your responsibility to research.

This is not working. The number of #hackerone report submissions for #curl in 2025 is going through the roof, while the quality is going through the floor.

And the year isn't over yet.

My friend Ron Fisher accompanied me with his Norman guitar while I played "Welkin Walk" on my mandolin.

There's sheet music for the tune at the end.

@jonathan I'd love to have a Christmas dinner with you, actually. You don't know about it, but you influenced me positively very much. My family, even those who don't speak English at all, know your name because I quite often say "Jonathan once said this" or "as Jonathan used to tell in his podcast"… really, I have a huge amount of topics to discuss. I don't always agree with you, but isn't it even better like this? #MushroomFM

Switched from #Spotify to #Tidal. 🎉

Reason? Spotify is the biggest player, but rips off artists the most. And now they generate AI crap to rip off artists more. 🤑

It took me a year or so from decision to actually doing it. It's cool that favourites and playlists can be migrated using #TuneMyMusic for few dollars. But I had shared playlists with several people, I used the jam feature from time to time etc.. The social aspect of any service is always the best way to lock users in a one platform, and It worked on me also. But this situation of being a hostage somewhere is uncomfortable for me so much, that I did the switch finally. 🫂

Now I am in phase of discovery of the Tidal service. Maybe I will find some missing killer feature and I will return, but I am fully decided to give it proper trial. 😅

Spotify as a mainstream service has advantage of wide device support, that could be one of the challenges. 🤷

On the other hand I immediately liked, they have a DJ plan to allow you mix the music in supported DJ software. Sadly my favourite software @mixxx is not supported. 🎛️

in reply to Štěpán Škorpil

By the way, what also helped a bit with the switch is, that all podcasts started to monetize, thus on spotify there is always only a short preview version of the podcast. Full one is usally available as a user specific rss link. This pushed me to find separate podcast solution and I am much happier with the solution I found:
:nextcloud: #NextCloud + Gpodder sync plugin as synchronization server
:nextcloud: NextCloud + Podcasts plugin for web browser listening on desktop
:antennapod: #AntennaPod for on the go listening on Android

It's #selfHosted, it's #openSource and that's what I like.

Zrušení zákazu je prohrou evropského autoprůmyslu
Zrušení zákazu prodeje automobilů se spalovacími motory je prohrou paradoxně pro ty, pro které se to dělá. Proč? To se v článku snažím vysvětlit.

Jane Goodall said "You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make."
To me this illustrates how everything is interconnected you are not just in the world, you are of it. We are collectively, responsible for so much harm to our world but individually we are responsible for the healing. Collectively we make change.

I asked a shop employee at the supermarket where the cocoa powder was. She laughed, and led me to the shelf.

There were none left. Big gap.

She grabbed a foot stool, climbed up on it and started reaching round the back of the next product.

That's very sweet, really trying for me.

She wasn't even looking, like she knew there was one there. Smile on her face.

There was.

She handed it to me.

"Was that for you?"

Big smile. "Yes, but don't worry, they will re-stock, I'll get one later."

So sweet. I thanked her profusely.

Life is made of magical interactions like this. Connections. Short overlaps into other people’s lives.

Oh, France! I somehow felt it even before I saw it in your profile. I had lots of small happy incidents like that here that warm my heart. Once a lady asked me to get for her a can of beer from a higher shelf in the supermarket because she is kind of tiny and I'm 186 centimeters. I'm blind, and I was with my wife, so my wife guided me a bit to find the necessary can, and the lady was super shy, like "I shouldn't have asked you, I shouldn't have bothered you" etc. And of course, I said "It's my eyes that don't work, not my arms, so I help you with my greatest pleasure!".

Principle nine of nonviolence-
Realise interconnectedness.
These principles come from, and help to sustain, a belief that all life is an interconnected whole and that any problem can be solved once its real nature is understood. In other words, once we understand our real needs we will find that they are not in competition with anyone else’s. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”

I really wish Prusa had tried to work with OSI, CC, and/or OSHWA instead of greenfielding a new license.

Even if the principle behind this license wasn't misguided, I don't think it's precise enough to legally accomplish any of the goals Prusa stated.

Please don't use this.
