Hey, Linux people: a LOT of folks are screaming off Windows right now.
Be. Kind. To. Them.
They don't know much yet, so they are going to ask really basic questions. If you're KIND, you might get some to give it a try and stick to it bc they know they can ask for help. If you're unkind, you're showing them using Linux will be *worse* than Windows. If you can't bring yourself to be kind, then SAY NOTHING. Let others pick up that slack.

I also managed quite a feat at work and, thanks to a random internet person, learned that there's something called PMDD.
Overall, it was a pretty successful day.
Just over a week has passed since I've started messing about with Ubuntu. So far, I've felt very little restrictions.
I also learned a few things. At the start, I had issues installing Ubuntu: It kept closing the installation window. I thought it might be my unstable internet, but it wasn't. Ended up being a quick fix that my wife looked up online: Picking safe graphics mode.
Then I looked for a way to install @Tutanota and learned what an 'AppImage' is, and how to install it. This is when I also realised there are several 'app stores' to choose from. I also found out that you have to set specific files to be 'executable' before you can use them.
The 'most complicated' situation I could solve with help of the internet was figuring out how to install the driver for my WiFi USB stick (because my built-in adapter is either broken or simply *sucks*). @ostechnix led me through the lines of commands and checks to make sure it was properly installed. It felt really good when it all worked out.

If so, I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I love #linux and always have. I have literally made my career with it ever since I first booted the H.J. Lu boot/root floppy set on my 486 DX2/66, but I'm partially #blind, and my vision is getting worse as I age.
And at times the amount of negativity and crap I get when I say that I generally run #WSL on Windows or a Mac? It's huge, pointless, and speaks to some ways in which parts of the Linux community are its own worst enemy.
When screen zoom broke for 2 years in #ubuntu and many of us kept signposting how important this is to us, over and over, and one of the Canonical engineers wrote in the issue saying that, due simply to the very limited number of engineering hours available, this was a low priority fix? That was a wake up call for me.
There's no malice there. It's not that anyone in the Linux community is doing an evil laugh and thrilling to the number of disabled users who can't reliably enjoy Linux on the desktop, it's about the reality that a tiny, rag tag group of engineers working for a handful of companies are doing the vast majority of the work keeping the Linux desktop world moving, and they BARELY have the bandwidth to keep development going at all much less catering to the myriad accessibility needs folks like us (Not comparing the nature of our didabilities, mind you. Everyone's different!).
But people like the guy your post responds to can make us feel not smart enough, not good enough, or not motivated enough to thrive in an environment that throws up HUGE obstacles, and that's just not right.
Pardon the length, I have Strong Feelings about this stuff as you can see, and thanks again for posting!

#Ubuntu 25.04 will be released today (maybe it already is), so here is my look at this new update!
The TLDR is: I thought it wouldn't have that much, but it turns out that between #GNOME 48, APT 3.0, Nvidia dynamic boost, and a new default app, there's a lot to cover!
Also, props to Xubuntu for the move to XFCE 4.20, that's going to be a big change for Xubuntu users!

Certain models of Lenovo laptops now ship with Fedora and Ubuntu Linux. This is done to keep costs low and cater to developers or IT professionals who heavily rely on Linux. Another reason could be the increased unpopularity of Windows 11 in recent times due unwanted features like "AI" or "Recall", but that is just my own wild guess ;) LOL. Would you buy it?

Naja, man ist da sicher auf einem guten Weg. Aber das Jonglieren mit config Dateien und Einstellungen erinnert mich doch etwas daran, wie es vor reichlich zehn Jahren war, wenn man #jack und #pulseaudio zusammenbringen wollte.
Zwar muss jetzt nicht soo viel konfiguriert werden, aber man muss schon ein wenig herumsuchen...
Mit meinem install #Script für das #Audio Zeug hab ich es nun ohne jack versucht. Mal sehen ob es sich mit #ubuntu 24 #Linux bewährt:

Ich konnte das Problem damals glücklicherweise schnell lösen, weil das Profil natürlich nicht gelöscht war.
Ich habe darüber gebloggt und bekomme inzwischen fast täglich dankbare Kommentare, weil verzweifelte Anwender*innen ihre Mails retten konnten.

My Family has been using either #Ubuntu (2 computers) or #OpenSuse #TumbleWeed (5 computers) - for some years now.
#Yast enabled my family members to do a lot of things for themselves without great further knowledge (or - gasp - the command line), e.g. installing a printer.
2011 😳 to jsem o Archu asi ani moc nevěděl. To jsem měl Ubuntu. To byla zlatá éra české komunity #ubuntu.
Na fóru každý den stovky aktvních uživatelů.
Just bought a #DELL 3190 laptop, new for $150 (11.6" screen, 64GB eMMC). It's fully supported on #Linux, and even if it has a Celeron N4120 CPU and only 4 GB of RAM, it'll work fine with #Mint, or #XFCE (and #Gnome/ #KDE if you don't mind some minor lag). Not opening too many browser tabs will ensure that the swap file won't get used too often.
If you're on a tight budget this is a good option, as it also has great battery life too at 10 hours with Linux.

В связи с намерениями правительства удалить всю информацию по обходу блокировок из российского сегмента интернета, кто-то, решил принять меры. 🙂
ОН, судя по всему считает, что статьи это важная часть культуры и нашего прошлого.
Особенно, комментарии больших групп образованных людей на habrahabr.ru.
Этот человек, скорее всего считает важным сохранять и распространять полезную информацию.
А так же, делиться мнениями других людей, т.к. это развивает и помогает обществу рости в лучшую сторону.
Не смотря на мои предположения, для меня остается загадкой мотивация этой неизвестной личности.
Но я разделяю некоторые идеи, в плане того, что знаниями нужно делиться.
Мне всегда становится грустно, когда я обнаруживаю умерший сайт,
или удаленную страницу и потерянную информацию.
Поэтому, делюсь этими ссылками с вами.
А вы, можете поделиться с другими.
(будет что почитать, если интернет совсем кончится)
К тому же, 14 марта на хабре вышла статья

под которой один человек предложил сохранить статьи по обходу блокировок.

Учитывая времена, думаю стоит сохранить все локально, потому что не известно,
какие именно категории данных будут удаляться в будущем.

Судя по ссылкам в страницах, они были сохранены с середины марта 2024.
Информация собрана по темам (список вверху) и все рассортировано по папкам.
Сохранены практически все страницы (за исключением откровенно рекламных статей).
Возможно вы встретите небольшое количество дублей, т.к. темы пересекаются.
(так же, встречаются одинаковые статьи опубликованные в разное время, но имеющие разные комментарии)
Возможна какая-то информация вам будет не интересна.
Есть страницы с устаревшей информацией (с 2008 года).
Они и комментарии из этих статей сохранены для истории.
В архиве есть index.html, через который можно искать статьи по ключевым словам через Ctrl+F.
Так же, под этим сообщением есть скриншеты и видео о структуре.
Если у вас в закладках, есть страницы с инструкциями для построения защищенных сетей,
или что-то, что вы считает полезными и это может быть потеряно,
добавляйте ссылки под этим постом, с описанием.
Может быть, ваша информация будет кому-то полезна.
