We're using it at work (don't ask, Shadow IT), and I'm strongly considering switching to a two-account setup at this point. Especially because their track record on privacy (from your contacts, not in the weird "I don't want personalized ads" sense) is spotty at best.
Discord in a browser is fine. I use it daily, at work, where I can't install the app lol. You will loose the F6 shortcut to jump around, at least in FireFox for me, and no idea about keyboard shortcuts in general, but for basic chatting it's all right.

from a "how similar is it to the desktop app" standpoint? it's literally identical. with the exception of a few features the browser sandbox prohibits, like push to talk when the browser window isn't focused, there is literally 100% feature parity.
discord desktop is an electron app. it's a website in a box already. why maintain two frontend codebases when you don't have to?
certainly doable if a bit cumbersome at least with being able to differentiate between browse/focus mode, not sure how it'd handle in Safari. I'd say it's OK for casual use, not great for anything resembling efficiency or productivity

🎉 Brailab + NVDA just got much nicer in Say All. (eurpod.com/brailab-2025.nvda-a…) We fixed long-standing line-by-line breaks so consecutive lines are now coalesced into real sentences, keeping natural inflection instead of resetting prosody at every visual line. Even better: speech indexing now flows through the wrapper itself, so Say All, caret tracking, and navigation stay perfectly in sync — no hacks, no dropped events. Same Brailab sound, smoother reading. This one feels really good. 😄 And without @erion doing that initial driver work it wouldn't have happened. Now Brailab reads as it did in my childhood, with the same low intonation during long sentences, it's such a joy to use now that the Wrapper works well.
Even though I don't use NVDA, thanks so much for all the work you put into this to make it better. Time to open some Rejtő novel now right? Ah, those good ol' days.

well, now we know why FlexVoice just sucks, i mean sucks, at english. really why else wouldn't it, Hungarians made it, it's best with spoken Hungarian text.
I've heard of Világhalló, never used it, nor know anyone who could have it unfortunately. I might have heard some sample sentences spoken by FlexVoice ages ago, but never had the Hungarian version. The machine learning aspect is completely new to me, however, I wonder why they stopped developing their engine.

It's more common with german people to have that as it seems. Same for emojis or different formating etc, just use normal letters. My screenreader sometimes reads all letters like they where in seperated capitals because you have some weird formating you think looks cool, or says question mark question mark between each letter. Just type, on your normal keyboard, type your name, your pseudonyme, but nothing else. Just gonna ignore that crap from now on, probably mute. Wastes time.
Another form of Facebook post in particular is really giving me the shits lately and it relates to a previous post I made regarding the use of AI. The kind of post I'm talking about here is the really inspiring post about someone that is shared by everybody. You can tell it's an AI post because it often starts with something like, it was 3.37 in the morning and 35 seconds when the old man took his last breath inside the ice cream parlour. The posts then go on to talk about what an amazing person they were, the things they do just get better and better and better and at the end you often get these annoying fucking moral messages. Mr Blake did not succeed because he had an IQ of 512, mr Blake succeeded because he found the inspirational courage to fight through the horrible brain freeze and tooth pain. So fucking irritating.
If I were a digital rights activist, I would see this time as a golden opportunity.
#Grok, the #AI "assistant" powered by Musk's xAI, has become an engine of non-consensual image and video generation at a mass scale - including pornographic and pedopornographic content. Creating and distributing this imagery has never been quicker or easier. All one has to do is reply to an image posted by someone on X with a mention of Grok and a prompt. This feature was restrained recently but people who pay an $8 subscription to X can still do it. In the Privacy Guides article by Em, the French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Irish governments (amongst many others) were in full support of Chat Control. As far as I can tell, prominent politicians, Prime Ministers and official government accounts from these countries are still posting on X.
Is there anything we can do to point out the hypocrisy? Or have the abuse machine that is Grok sanctioned and fined? And - this is key - use this horrible incident to push politicians to FINALLY quit X? It's about time.

@tpheine in my case it was easy because it is powder snow. The temperature hasn't risen above zero for like two weeks here, so it hasn't had a chance to melt and then freeze again. When it happens, it is hard work indeed.
Same here. But due to the higher surface temperatures on the black panels (black bulb temperature is always higher) it is often above Zero on them and the snow melts and freezes.
@slp No, it's 21, they're just split into half by a silver line and look like 42. It's 21x410W=8610W. The inverter is 10kW, pretty standard. I wish I had 42 panels. It would come handy on days like this. :)

@bagder To have goals which can drive development, for me to get a dopamine hit after being in 10 straight years of development hell, because it gives me a chance to look back and reflect on what we've been doing and determine if that's the correct path.

So earlier today, i went to round one. For those not in the know, round one is an arcade/ entertainment place that has video games, ten pin bowling, food, and stuff of that nature. I picked round one because it had one particular game that I've been wanting to play ever since it came out. As such, I present my best game on the bop it arcade, with a score of 62, which is the highest score set on that machine. I'll certainly be going back for more. This was recorded with a zoom h1e and a pickup coil placed over the speaker grill of the game. I hope you will enjoy.
@Bri mvsep is a crazy good source seperation service that has a ton of free models plus paid ones. They have demucs models, plus newer, better stuff that can isolate a whole bunch of things.
@Bri one category of model they have is effects, which are designed to isolate dialog, music and sfx. MVsep DNR v3 happens to be one of them. I passed this along with a coule other gameplays through it and got sounds that make the game playable.
@Bri basickly the pannel is effectively a flat surface, with the commands sticking out the top. Spin it is on the front, then on the top of the panel you have pull on the left, bop in the center, twist on the right, and flick above bop. The nobs and levers stick out of the pannel twards the air, and the panel is slightly angled twards you so you can reach the controls. The marquee has a over sized front view of the extreme from 2022 on it.
@Bri do you know how other people have managed to isolate the noises? I know some versiont ath people have made on sites like scratch have at least some high quality samples but not all.
@Bri the extreme 2022 has bop it 2016 stylized commands. All controls and case shapes were redesigned and the arcade just took that design 1 to 1 and over sized it.
@BorrisInABox @Bri I'm honestly surprised at how clean that came out. The entire thing was loud enough to hear well over the high ambient noise of the other games and stuff going on, and the pick up coil captured what I sent.
@BorrisInABox @Bri the speakers are on either side of the big marquee artwork, which is extremely raised and tactile. The marquee of course has lighting and stuff behind it, but it's slarge enough that none of the lights were too close.
@Bri @BorrisInABox I ahve the gear to do so, but it would have required placing the cables in the way, and my dad who helped me record would have needed to stand right over me which would have made playing the game harder.
@BorrisInABox @Bri the tricky part now will be programming my nvgt port of this game. I have a sound tracker script that should be able to help with rhythms that use slices or other one shots, but annoyingly ever since an engine update occured, it throws a runtime error that i can't track down which it didn't before.

Tonight, while scrolling random stuff on social media, I noticed something odd and perplexing about the particular voice I use on my devices. People are both directly quoting and paraphrasing that “First they Came for...” poem. The voice I use has been reading “Came” as “Come...” I could not figure out why people were missquoting it, so reviewed it letter by letter. My braille display is charging, or I would have look right on that... Still, “Come,” “Came” different words... Context is important...
That sounds like a really odd thing for a synth to do, but then I'm pretty sure that one of mine does really odd things, too. And, a few years ago, for a few days, my phone's synth was pronouncing GPS like "jeepies," but it eventually reverted to the normal pronunciation. I have no idea why it would have been doing that (it was around the time I was in Brussels, but I'd think that that would be coincidence).
I'm posting this in case I'm missing something, perhaps I am. Is the only way to rewind and fast forward on IOS when those playback sliders exist that move by 5 seconds per swipe, to swipe them a million times until you move the desired increment of 5 seconds, even if you want to rewind/fast forward 30 minutes or something? This goes for playing long audio files in Safari or playing Youtube videos. I know there's a rewind and fast forward button in Youtube, but that's 10 seconds as well. Just curious if there's some trick with those things I don't know about.
If you double tap and hold, and then slide your finger I think it's left and right, but it depends on the slider, then you can move in much, much much larger increments.
Mildly curious if any of my blind followers, or any blind people who happen to see this, do much gaming on mobile platforms (iOS/android/etc), or if most blind gaming is done on desktop these days. I feel like most of the accessible games tend to lean towards being on Windows, and a bit on mac, but I was curious if anyone played on mobile platforms, either as a complementary experience to desktop or console gaming, or even as a preference. If anyone does, what are your favorite mobile games? Not inherently looking for recommendations, just kinda starting a discussion because I'm curious.
Honestly, if I have anything to say about it, mobile gaming will become more of a reality. Want to bring all of my games to Droid/iOS. i know that's not exactly what you asked, but I'd love to be able to play more games on my phone
@Bri I would as well. The more people developing for the mobile scene the better. I'd love to see more of a balance between mobile and desktop gaming, it just seems like there's a lack of mobile devs making their games screen reader accessible
Oh 100%. I can already compile games for Android, and they work a lot better than they did even a year ago, which is great, but not everyone has an android.
Yeah, there's a lot that Apple does that I'm not a huge fan of, but I do like iOS and I like the things you can do with it development wise. NVDARC anyone? That thing is insane and basically turns everything I knew about iOS on it's head
