I created a Jammable voice for MindMaker FlexVoice 3 Kim. Attached is a song: Radioactive Rain by Smith and Thell. Enjoy. This is my first female voice, finally, after so many speech engines do male voices or female voices that are fake male anyway. Not Kim though. jammable.com/kim-mindmaker-fle…
Enjoy.

How accessible is Discord in a browser?
We're using it at work (don't ask, Shadow IT), and I'm strongly considering switching to a two-account setup at this point. Especially because their track record on privacy (from your contacts, not in the weird "I don't want personalized ads" sense) is spotty at best.
Are phising attempts getting more believable for everyone or just me?
Just got a "Update payment method" mail allegedly from @hetzner@hetzner.social. But it was sent to the mail address advertised on my personal website (which is hosted on Hetzner's servers).
We fixed long-standing line-by-line breaks so consecutive lines are now coalesced into real sentences, keeping natural inflection instead of resetting prosody at every visual line.
Even better: speech indexing now flows through the wrapper itself, so Say All, caret tracking, and navigation stay perfectly in sync — no hacks, no dropped events.
Same Brailab sound, smoother reading. This one feels really good. 😄 And without @erion doing that initial driver work it wouldn't have happened. Now Brailab reads as it did in my childhood, with the same low intonation during long sentences, it's such a joy to use now that the Wrapper works well.

Yes that's right. Mindmaker is Hungarian.
"The Flexvoice text reader is the successor of the PC talker, developed by Mindmaker Kft (József Király and his team) in Hungary. The new software was officially announced in Hungary in 2002. Flexvoice was a hibryd system based on machine learning and formant synthesis. The newly developed inverse formant synthesizer has made it possible to describe and store the speech elements recorded from human speech with compressed phonetic data. Speech was synthesized by the formant synthesizer software. Flexvoice was able to speak in a variety of voices, also whispering and hoarse voices. The Flexvoice speech synthesizer has also been used in the VILÁGHALLÓ book reader application for the blind in Hungary."
did you know this @erion? By any chance you or someone has a copy of Világhálló, perhaps we can adapt that voice to work in current FlexVoice engine?
I might have heard some sample sentences spoken by FlexVoice ages ago, but never had the Hungarian version.
The machine learning aspect is completely new to me, however, I wonder why they stopped developing their engine.

The kind of post I'm talking about here is the really inspiring post about someone that is shared by everybody.
You can tell it's an AI post because it often starts with something like, it was 3.37 in the morning and 35 seconds when the old man took his last breath inside the ice cream parlour.
The posts then go on to talk about what an amazing person they were, the things they do just get better and better and better and at the end you often get these annoying fucking moral messages.
Mr Blake did not succeed because he had an IQ of 512, mr Blake succeeded because he found the inspirational courage to fight through the horrible brain freeze and tooth pain.
So fucking irritating.
If I were a digital rights activist, I would see this time as a golden opportunity.
#Grok, the #AI "assistant" powered by Musk's xAI, has become an engine of non-consensual image and video generation at a mass scale - including pornographic and pedopornographic content. Creating and distributing this imagery has never been quicker or easier. All one has to do is reply to an image posted by someone on X with a mention of Grok and a prompt. This feature was restrained recently but people who pay an $8 subscription to X can still do it. As Sam Cole writes on @404mediaco : "Masterful Gambit: Musk Attempts to Monetize Grok's Wave of Sexual Abuse Imagery" 404media.co/x-premium-grok-pay…
How many politicians pushing for #ChatControl are still using X? How many official government accounts? You know, the same people who screamed WE NEED TO PROTECT THE CHILDREN and pushed for the scanning of all digital communications and files (including E2EE encrypted ones) of European citizens? An "Orwellian nightmare" as @Em0nM4stodon wrote on Privacy Guides: privacyguides.org/articles/202…
In the Privacy Guides article by Em, the French, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian and Irish governments (amongst many others) were in full support of Chat Control. As far as I can tell, prominent politicians, Prime Ministers and official government accounts from these countries are still posting on X.
Is there anything we can do to point out the hypocrisy? Or have the abuse machine that is Grok sanctioned and fined? And - this is key - use this horrible incident to push politicians to FINALLY quit X? It's about time.

Masterful Gambit: Musk Attempts to Monetize Grok's Wave of Sexual Abuse Imagery
In an attempt to push more people toward a paying subscription, Grok now refuses to generate images in replies. The paywall is pretty leaky, though.Samantha Cole (404 Media)

I've been having silly amounts of fun using this text through the various voices.

Starting Monday with a morning exercise in the fresh air at 15 degrees below zero. Let's get some solar power. The heat pump needs it.
I wish I had 42 panels. It would come handy on days like this. :)
I'm not fucking around anymore. If you're actively trying to make shit harder for me, I am going to let you know.
@bagder Is it double messaging when this is explicitly in every single release announcement?
> Just like the previous experimental releases, this is a timed release. It is a snapshot of what we currently have and is something we think other tinkerers and developers may want to start playing with, but again, it is not meant for end users.
@bagder To have goals which can drive development, for me to get a dopamine hit after being in 10 straight years of development hell, because it gives me a chance to look back and reflect on what we've been doing and determine if that's the correct path.
Are these good enough reasons for you?
@bagder Guess I should turn this into an FAQ somewhere which will be yet another thing on my todo list which will of course cut into development time...
Anyways here's the original announcement that described the whole thing.
But tl;dr we're open to feedback if it is actually usable/reasonable right now.
But between live and work finding time for Pidgin is hard and people are making it harder by forcing me through conversations like this.

Pidgin 3.0.0 Experimental 1 Announcement
Greetings Programs! This post was supposed to be made awhile back but I got busy and kept forgetting to write it. Anyways, we are officially announcing that we will be releasing the first experimental release of Pidgin 3 on December 31st, 2024.Instant Messaging Freedom's Discourse
@bagder Wow I love how people just love to suggest that I can't decide on my own autonomy. Which was kind of the point of the initial tweet...
FWIW I have been actively working on a pull request during this entire discussion.
There is something wrong with Trump.
At a meeting with oil industry CEO’s he suddenly interrupts his introductory remarks, gets up and looks out the window and starts talking about his ballroom. Trump then realizes his mistake and says “unusual time to look”, and sits back down to continue.
How many oil companies will invest in a Venezuelan oil project initiated by a man who loses track of the situation he is in?

Good morning from Gaza,
Despite the pain and the siege, we still believe that truth never dies and that the dawn of freedom will come, no matter how long the night lasts.
Our voices, our prayers, and our resilience are stronger than all injustice.
A morning of hope for Palestine and for everyone who stands for justice.

Given the aggressive goals I've heard about, possibly by years end if they aren't stopped
People are both directly quoting and paraphrasing that “First they Came for...” poem.
The voice I use has been reading “Came” as “Come...”
I could not figure out why people were missquoting it, so reviewed it letter by letter.
My braille display is charging, or I would have look right on that...
Still, “Come,” “Came” different words... Context is important...
I have a lot to say about this weekend's big GNOME controversy.

from a "how similar is it to the desktop app" standpoint? it's literally identical. with the exception of a few features the browser sandbox prohibits, like push to talk when the browser window isn't focused, there is literally 100% feature parity.
discord desktop is an electron app. it's a website in a box already. why maintain two frontend codebases when you don't have to?
