Do any of you know how to create chapters in a podcast using windows? I know lots of people do it an apple. I want to know if it’s possible and how convenient it might be to do this in windows. I have three demonstration‘s coming up, and I would like to turn it into chapters, most of the podcast we do are only one item. Just curious. We are about ready to start another cast.

@arush Hello! I have been looking for the longest time myself. It's difficult to find an accessible solution for this. I ended up using Lossless Cut for our podcast. It's meant for cutting videos but the trick works also for chapterizing mp3's. The best part is, this is the only software that embeds chapters in such a way that they are visible in Apple Podcasts despite it being a mp3 file which, according to the Internet, was impossible. The app is Electron, works reasonably well with screen readers mostly due to a wide array of hotkeys which you can discover the typical way, by pressing the question mark in the forms mode of your screen reader. github.com/mifi/lossless-cut/

@arush If it's difficult to find a good chapterizing tool it is as difficult to spot a player that supports chapter marks in mp3 files under Windows. I myself use PotPlayer to verify whether the chapters have integrated well before shipping an episode. GomPlayer works too but seems to be more tolerant of faulty exports which won't pass on most mobile Podcatchers. At some point I was fine to navigate by chapters in Foobar but then it all broke and nobody seems to know why.

Tried a @kde app for the first time in a while, looks like the theming situation there is not getting better. This app is literally unusable on stock @fedora 37...

I assume Fedora's downstream stylesheet is at fault here? I really wish they would stop theming Qt, it's not making anything more consistent and just breaks stuff #stopthemingmyapp

It should be improving accessibility. It's year 2 of trying to get people to use teams. Even I can't figure out how the fuck to get blind users to use a hard app compared to apps in general. theverge.com/2023/2/20/2360703…

Ruin, terror, and death have marked the life of millions of Ukrainians since 24 February 2022.

We have shown unwavering support by offering humanitarian and financial assistance and taking pivotal steps to hold Russia accountable.

We haven't been alone.

Europeans have offered exceptional and heartwarming support.

Their stories of solidarity have been Europe's firmest answer against Russia's acts of terror.

Huh, I can just upload music here. Music fans of Mastodon, I've been trying to find the name of this song and who sings it for the last 10-plus years. I found it on a burned CD randomly in High School, and that is all I got.

It would be of great help if you could boost this to try and get it to as many people as possible to hear this song. I'm sure someone out there knows who sings this.

LYRICS (To the best of my abilities)

Why is there war

This is the Reason

Human diseases plague upon ourselves

the more we survived, the more we lay waste

bring up the weak and tell them to fly

Follow my children. You are the saviours

Or just a number that dies in the storm

supposedly special, yet there is nothing

You cannot be done by some younger face

And who are our idols?

What do they teach?

Reflection upon us

We hate ourselves

Reality is lost

Higher than God

But you are our god, so who is the answer

Question your beliefs

You've been buried in oblivion

Live for today

Consequences tomorrow

Bloody for attention

Soil the floor

Not looking for the answer, just looking to ignore

How bleak is your weakness

[Can't understand the next few lines]

True power is money

Capitalist coin

Now we're back to the reason.

This question isn't solved.

So I drink to your health.

I smoke to your memories.

I shoot for the stars.

I dream of being heard

I entered your lies time and time again.

[Can't understand the rest]

Sometimes I find it very hard to know how to look for/describe #GNOME bugs. I could use some help with this one. It's a bug in #libadwaita as I can trigger it both in GNOME Files and GNOME Settings. I just have no clue how to describe it. I think searching on "dialog" might be too narrow of a search, and I also don't know what to give as extra info (platform, version...). I can't seem to find it in the gitlab repo, which surprises me as it's such a major regression...

There’s still about a month left to enter our #InkscapeAboutScreen contest for version 1.3!

The deadline to enter is Sun., Mar. 19, 2023.

The theme is:

Is there a high-level, statically typed language in the #GTK ecosystem?

#Rust, while better than C is overly obsessed with memory to use it daily.

Looking at bindings
gtk.org/docs/language-bindings…

things like #JVM and #.NET are missing, leaving the choice of unhelpful type systems, or caring about unneeded details, or both... Not a good outlook for quickly building apps.

I have enjoyed really diving into #Mastodon recently, but I have to say that the fatal flaw in the whole federated UX is the inability to explore remote users followers/follows without directly going to the remote instance. I have been doing what is described here: peterkellner.net/2022/11/19/fi… by @pkellner and frankly it sucks. Finding interesting people to follow has been *work* for this reason.

Embloggeration happened: in which I expand on the topic of writing API that can be used by multiple languages in the land of #gnome hopefully to the benefit of people writing libraries and language bindings

There's a fairly broken hand-rolled cryptographic protocol on the HN front page. Its messages can be reordered, dropped, replayed, and reflected.

This is why I *don’t* like the “don't roll your own crypto” saying: it didn't stop this from being written and spending hours on the HN front page (but does stop smart folks from getting into the field).

But a developer taking the "don't roll your own crypto" advice seriously should surely conclude that they should only use the highest-level crypto facilities. In this case, for streams of data in motion, that would mean TLS. The blog post that, IIUC, popularized the "don't roll your own crypto" meme makes this explicit in the conclusion. web.archive.org/web/2009060606… But I suppose by now lots of people who know the general meme haven't read that post.
