Yesterday I didn't have anything interesting to read, so I looked around in my previous stuff and realised there was a series I had read a while ago and there might be some new books out.
It's called the Maradaine Sequence and there are a lot of books in it. I hadn't yet read Assassins of Consequence and the Quarrygate Gambit, and that's what I'm doing now.
The books are set in a complex capital city with magic and technology roughly on the cusp of the industrial revolution. There's not a single main character, though perhaps the central character is a magic student who fights a vigilante war against drug gangs. There's lots of intrigue, from the lowlife criminal underworld to the machinations of parliament and mage circles. I really like it.

One of the trickier skills in programming is being OK with throwing away working code, when you find a better way to solve a problem. I spent most of yesterday coming up with a performant method for showing direction arrows along a planned hike. This morning I thought of a better way, so ended up deleting all of the code I wrote yesterday, which would have worked alright but wasn't nearly as good.
Getting comfortable with the Sunk Cost Fallacy is key to ending up in a good place.

I'm a pretty hardcore language descriptivist (as opposed to a prescriptivist); I think language is an ever-evolving thing to be played with, and that most hate on "non-standard" dialects comes down to some kind of elitism/classism/other-ism.
This is particularly apparent in English. When you smack someone with a "rule" from English, you might wanna check where it came from. Example: not ending a sentence with a preposition? ONE GUY'S OFF-HAND COMMENT.

Google announced that starting in June 2024, ad blockers such as uBlock Origin #uBO will be disabled in Chrome 127 and later with the rollout of Manifest V3 (#Mv3).
The new #Chrome manifest will prevent using custom filters and stops on demand updates of blocklist. Only #Google authorized updates to browser extension will be allowed in the future, which mean an automatic win for Google in their battle to stop YouTube #AdBlockers .
#ManifestV3 is deceitful and threatening to your privacy, and now is a good time to switch to #Firefox (@mozilla) and/or #TorBrowser (@torproject) if you haven't done so already!

Hmm.... I don't really agree that the internet should be just a place of "free" creativity, though.
A lot of people rely on the internet to pay their bills and, whether we like it or not, ads are an important source of revenue.
Consumers don't value digital goods and services in the same way as something more tangible.
The only way to really change this might be to show that we are willing to pay with our wallets and not our personal data.

I fully switched to Firefox a few months ago when Google kept on pushing their "Manifest V3" Chrome policy, now that they continue to push it and remove V2 (and with it meaningful adblockers) from Chrome in 2024 maybe you want to start migrating as well?
