Albert Einstein is attributed with the quote "Never memorize something that you can look up." after being questioned about not knowing his own phone number.

Einstein would have loved these AI/LLM tools. They get you 90% of where you want to be without having to memorize how everything works just to get there, and then you can focus on validation and correctness of the final product.

I was just watching a clip of someone blaming the economic devastation in this country on immigrants, particularly citing people who came in *in the past 5 years* (so...Biden presidency), and not on the past 40 years of capitalists looting & plundering—nearly completely unchecked—for personal gain.

I don't even know what to do with that level of denial/dishonesty.

It's utter tripe. You want to know what happened to the jobs? The housing? Your standard of living? It's all out there in the open.

The amount people are spending on vibe coding is astonishing.

Saw someone say they spent $300 of Claude credits and a few hour of pressing the relevant button over and over on trying to solve a problem but it still didn’t work.

I’ve spent hours trying and failing to solve problems. It hasn’t cost me $300 (except in opportunity cost, perhaps) and usually I learn something in the process.

By contrast, throwing money into a slot machine over and over seems somewhat professionally unsatisfying.

hello everyone, I am redoing my #introduction post. Welcome to my lovely profile, if you follow me, that’s great. But if you’d like to lurk on my timeline, that’s fine too. I don’t really post much, just a few times here and there. I do my best to be kind to those around me. A few of my interests include.. #Gaming, #Technology, #Food and many more. Feel free to get to know me and reach out anytime. The only thing I ask is this, if you do follow me and you do not have a biography on your profile: I will not follow you. It’s not me trying to be rude, but I have no idea who you are. Take care everyone and stay safe!

Maybe if this guy embraced AI he could build a real website instead of relying on Github pages because of his ignorance

I bought this microwave 3 years ago, and it's still going strong. I got it because it has braille on the numbers, start, and cancel already. What it doesn't have is braille anywhere else. In case you have/will get this model and need to know, there's a mode button just below 5. This cycles through power settings. Press 5 times to get to defrost, enter your time, and hit start. I've been using high power and short times to defrost. Now I, and you, know. amazon.com/dp/B005GSPVHS?ref_=…

This was pushed out with a rushed security review, a coerced and unwilling engineering team, and in full opposition to our supposed company values.

If you don't want it, tell them. Social media and support forums. Leadership won't listen to employees. github.blog/changelog/2025-08-…

Windows 95, arguably the first PC gaming OS, is still being used... to sort eggs in Germany
"...For one thing, it may not surprise you to learn that egg-counting software is actually pretty niche, or that the programmer that originally built the software is no longer around to provide updates compatible with later operating systems. So, unless some young upstart wants to bring chicken farming into the modern age, hen farmers like Huber have few options but to stick with Windows 95..."

Here is what is missing in the popular #OSM based #FOSS apps (#OsmAnd, @CoMaps & @organicmaps) from being a potential replacement for GMaps.

1. Photos & Reviews are two most important things that are missing right now. @mangroveReviews and @lib_reviews are here to fill the reviews gap. #WikimediaCommons, @panoramax are here to fill the photos gap.

2. Crowdsourced Real time Traffic data. I couldn't find any #opendata platform yet. Though I saw an empty repo created under the CoMaps project. 🤞

I carry a 5 foot slip leash when I'm walking Maple in case we see a loose dog so I can catch it before it gets to her if it's aggressive.

I've found it easier to be proactive and get my dog behind me and lasso the other dog as it approaches.

After you have a leash on a dog they get way easier to control but if they don't, you can let your dog go and keep hold of the aggressor.

The only way this works is if you can train your dog to get behind you when you say and if they have enough recall to trust that you can get them back after you let them go.

It's not perfect but I've done it and it is better than not having any way to restrain a mean dog.

I'm just putting this here for anyone who wants to know what to do if an off leash dog is approaching you.

Obviously every crisis is different and sometimes you can't get the lead on the other dog.

Being prepared doesn't always work out but when it does, it does.

“This kind of thing should make everybody stop and really think before deploying any AI agents. We simply don’t know to defend against these attacks. We have zero agentic AI systems that are secure against these attacks.”

“It’s an existential problem that, near as I can tell, most people developing these technologies are just pretending isn’t there.”

I'm thinking about restarting my YouTube channel to share positive tech news and be the positive force I would like to see.

...but boy if the mega corps are making it extra hard to find good things these days. Most of the tech news are riddled by dystopian initiatives.

What do you folks use to stay in the loop of "good" tech?

This stupid move, plus the nasty fact that they recalled bottles due having GLASS inside of them? No thanks no more #CrownRoyal in this house. 🚫⛔️ #BuyCanadian

@CStamp Ontario now has wine, beer and coolers in grocery and convenience stores, and I absolutely do not see the need. As an example, there are many small communities in Ontario which *do* have an LCBO (which also has beer, including a great selection of Canadian craft beer), and *don't* have a grocery store or convenience store. Alcohol was already very readily available in this province, but our boneheaded premier is obsessed with it. @hub @Lynnd @Chigaze @jace

Ha, thanks to Hungarian radio, song stuck in my head that I cannot knock out with any other catchy song for now. Excited to travel to New York Sunday though, taking today and Friday off work just to be in the right mental space.

Why does it seem to be the case that when a patron does not return the items they checked out, they usually have checked out a large number of items?

I remember when one person checked out 6 volumes in the Wheel of Time series at once and then never returned them.
Between unreturned items and bindings falling apart, I sometimes feel like my library is propping up the Jordan estate with all the repurchasing I need to do of that series

in reply to Granny Art (Shrimp) (Joni)

My (former) library saved money by going fine-free since they no longer had to deal with the costs of accounting, staffing, training, security, debt collections, and tax implications of needing to accept fines.

And once (especially poor) folx were told to “just bring it back” we found that it meant they actually came back to the library, we got the book back, instead of them never returning to the library and just keeping the book. It was a resounding win for everyone. @fskornia

If only we did the same here. Canadians have done more than the Canadian Government to resist against the US fascists.
