Our Retro Retreat group is now open on #Matrix!

It's a community all about revisiting the magic of retro gaming, or discovering it for the first time. Come hang out and help us test things before we start our monthly game playthroughs in March.

(You're more than welcome to join even if you don't plan on doing monthly playthroughs)

4 days until our 4th annual jam! Games for blind Gamers!

This is my all time favorite jam, I've met amazing people, learned a lot about accessibility, became a better programmer, and I'm super happy that I'm helping run it this year!

If you have time, consider joining! It's a month long chill jam where if all you can do is an afternoon one Saturday, you're as welcome as anyone and we'd be honored to have you!

🌙 Sleep-deprived thoughts...
After a night without sleep, some treadmill time, and lots of thinking, here’s a wild idea: could CS:GO ever be made accessible for blind players? 🎮🤔
It sounds far-fetched, I know, but hear me out. What if there were a mode or addon that used spatial audio to "ping" walls or obstacles (like a sonar effect) and distinct sound cues for player positions? It wouldn’t be the same as how sighted players experience it, but blind gamers have their own ways of navigating fast-paced games.
We already have some incredible audio-based games, and you wouldn’t believe the epic battles we’ve had—all sound, no visuals, just skill and spatial awareness. Making a game like CS:GO accessible might seem impossible, but with the right creativity, who knows?

Making blind accessible video games has been truly life changing, and it all started with making a game for a blind accessible game jam. I learned so much about accessibility, met wonderful people, was exposed to video games made in new and wonderful ways, and felt inspired in new ways to be creative. So that's why I help a yearly jam all about blind accessibility in video games, and I genuinely hope anyone reading this considers joining. itch.io/jam/games-for-blind-ga… #indiedev #Blind #gaming

I sometimes wonder why all the FLOSS #mahjong #games on Linux are always the boring American "mahjong solitaire" version, never the traditional "street" mahjong, which is 100x more stimulating.

It would be so cool if #GNOME's #Mahjongg game (or a derivative) had a multiplayer-like mode, the one played by uncles in the streets of Hong Kong (youtube.com/watch?v=qzcmCvOM2K…), but with the computer as opponents (like in the embedded video below, or most computer chess games)…

I just learned (from Reddit, of all places) that there is a whole website dedicated to accessible builds for Guild Wars 2, created by gamers with accessibility needs.

Exciting news! Our first #purismgamejam just went into the voting round. Check out the amazing 'symbiotic' themed games created by our community. These free software games showcase the power of open-source gaming. Play them now at itch.io/jam/free-software-puri… #OpenSource #Gaming #Purism

SO when the #accessibility testing, advocating and fixing becomes a bit much it can be rather cathartic to, rather than take " we'll maybe at some point get to this eventually possibly maybe" , you just fireball your obstacles out of existence.
I do gaming stoofs too on this tiny little #twitch channel simply called Zersiax, and will be checking out some #diabloIV over there in half an hour. If the new #openSSH vuln is making you sad or the ladybird dev's got you down on your luck, come see stuff getting exploded, it helps, I promise :) See you then, over at https;//twitch.tv/zersiax #selfPromo #gaming #noTechStuffForAChange

Not sure if I've talked about this here, but there are like, tons of stuff here. I'm gonna try that Linux distro through Crostini on my old ChromeBook that I don't do anything else with anymore. The VM's over the Internet are really cool too! The AT Museum is cool. And I'm curious to see if the Windows 2000/XP on **Android** works. That'd be trippy.

Please boost for reach: There's an open issue on Github about adding scripting support to Retroarch. This would enable scripts like the Pokemon Access mod to be ran on Retroarch, hopefully allowing blind people to actually play the game while mobile. I tried it out and am already making a team in Pokemon Emerald, and in the woods in the first few areas of the game! If anyone is good with adding Lua to things, or if anyone is good at modding games and wants to enhance the Pokemon Access scripts, I'd really appreciate you looking into this.

Okay y'all, Retroarch is now accessible on iOS! You *will* need a keyboard or gamepad to play and use the user interface. PSP games work great though! Just download all the core updates and needed core files for PPSSPP, if you plan on playing PSP games, and you're good! #accessibility #RetroArch #blind #blindGaming #emulation #emulators #gaming #iOS Link to the App Store page: apps.apple.com/app/id649953943…

#StopKillingGames.com aims to delegalize game publishers thanos-snapping games you've paid real money for when they feel like it. Exactly what Ubisoft recently did with The Crew.

MattKC has a great short video about it:

Well ...that teaches me to go to sleep right after dropping an announcement like this :-O I did not expect even a tenth of the response this received, thank you all so much for that.
I realize the channel's looking kinda bare at present. The idea to do this os only a day or so old, so 🐻 with me while I set up an initial stream and such. If people are curious, the YouTube channel over at youtube.com/@blindlycoding has a number of archived game streams from my gaming channel, where I tackle #accessible #gaming, as well as a playlist on last year's Advent of Cyber on the TryHackMe event where I go through the challenges with a screen reader, critique the accessibility of a lot of them and overall trialed the format I want to pursue on the IC_Null channel. If people need a preview, that's where you go :)

Thomas Was Alone PS3 review

Read the review here. This was my highest rated game review ever. Everybody loved it and even though I am no longer doing gaming reviews these days, this was in my trunk so I thought I would share.

By the way, #PortalRevolution is reaaaaally good! It's pretty much more of the same if you have played #Portal 1 and 2 but it is quite impressive for a fan project. There also is a native #Linux version. Grab it for free (you need to have #Portal in your library: store.steampowered.com/app/601…
