Gemini 3 is out, but NVDA still doesn’t enter focus mode when pressing Enter on the Gemini edit field. Tested with Google Chrome. The work-around is pressing Insert+Space on the edit field instead of Enter. JAWS doesn’t have this issue.

I continuously experience a #cybersecurity conundrum.

A manufacturer/developer isn't investing in security because the customers don't demand security. And even less are running to pay a premium for security.

With the end users there still seems to be an "I have nothing to hide" attitude.

So I'm looking for ideas, suggestions and experiences on how to increase and generate security awareness both on the management side as well as on the end user side.

Regarding end users there is the additional challenge of another layer of indirection.
I need to enable the "sellers" to create the security awareness, as they talk to the end users.

I'm NOT looking for advice like "just tell them what can go wrong" because i don't think it works. Or at least not if it is abstract and isn't personal.

Only 1% of Mastodon users donate to support the team? Sure, not everyone can afford to do so, but that's still sad. Just made my own donation.

We’re still an absolute skeleton crew of 14 people, competing with teams sometimes 100x as large as ours. To get to our humble team size was only possible through the less than 1% community members who donate to Mastodon, a handful larger donations, & EU grants, all of which we are forever grateful for. We still have a large funding need for 2026, so please consider making a donation before the year-end if you’d like us to continue building and improving Mastodon joinmastodon.org/sponsors#dona…

I've always found this discussion on timezone mismatch for both (Peninsular) Malaysia and Singapore, that is, being GMT+8 instead of our supposed GMT+7 or GMT+7.30, very interesting lol.

Eastern Malaysia (Borneo), ofc, already have it right at GMT+8 - and supposedly, that single hour daily makes a huge difference in terms of 'quality of life' for those who are lucky to be born/stationed there.

I honestly don't care either way, time is 'fiction' after all :blobfoxcat:, but I wonder just how feasible it is to even change it, should we want to - and if it's worth the trouble. Or maybe a fucked up 'solution' would be to keep the GMT+8 timing but enforce a GMT+7 lifestyle lmao, for example, have schools start at 8.30am GMT+8 (7.30am GMT+7) instead of 7.30am GMT+8 (6.30am GMT+7).

We're building something for the Fediverse. #Holos

ActivityPub running on your phone. Your own server, your data stored locally. A relay handles your stable identity when you're offline.

One account, all formats. Short text, long articles, photos, videos. The UI adapts to your mood. Switch between text mode, photo grid, video feed, article editor based on what you feel like sharing.

Same network, same followers.

Early stages, but the foundation is solid. We wanted to share the progress.

všetky nikotinové výrobky ktoré som mal doma a nepoužíval (ako liquidy, iqos, iné liquidy, e-cigarety, rôzne nástavce atď) podotýkam nepoužíval mali hodnotu ~80€ a to podľa mňa nie je normálne

edit: ráno kašlem a neznie to veľmi sexy to preto, v podstate sa dá kašľať zo všetkého len to inak znie tabak/iqos/e-cig/liquidy

it's complicated :(

Up until a couple months ago there wasn't even such a thing as encrypted RCS. What Google's been doing for several years now is having Google Messages do its own encryption that had nothing to do with RCS, but then sending the encrypted text over the RCS connection.

Then when Apple was forced (by China) to add support for RCS, they said they'd only support exactly what was in the RCS spec, so no encryption. Subsequently the RCS people have added TLS encryption to the spec and Google has slowly begun rolling out it in Google Messages, but Apple has not yet implemented the new encrypted version, despite participating in its specification process.

Another notable feature merged in the GNOME Calendar live coding session today: the ability to export an entire calendar as an .ics file.

This was originally added to the wishlist 10 years ago: gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-c…

Thanks to @FineFindus's dedication towards implementing this (alongside the individual event .ics export feature) this year, you will be able to use this feature in #GNOME 50 (or the nightly flatpak version of Calendar today): gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-c…

Today I am stepping down from my role as the CEO of #Mastodon. Though this has been in the works for a while, I can't say I've fully processed how I feel about it. There is a bittersweet part to it, and I think I will miss it, but it also felt necessary. It feels like a goodbye, but it isn't—I intend to stay on and continue to advise the new leadership and contribute, because Mastodon—and the fediverse—is one of the very few beacons of hope for a better web.

Buried in this nicely-detailed RCA is a pretty damning fact:

Cloudflare left .unwrap() in mission-critical Rust code.

For non-Rustaceans, .unwrap() handles a type called Result that can either be Ok with a value, or an Err with an Error. The whole point is to gracefully handle errors and not let panics make it to production code.

I use .unwrap() sometimes! Usually when there's a logical guarantee that the result can never be an error. But I make sure to purge it from critical processes for exactly this reason.

There was a time where you could simply put some html-Files into some directory which would directly be served to the Internet... like magic!
