Microsoft Ava (Natural HD) and Microsoft Andrew (Natural HD) can now be used offline with NVDA and JAWS, via the SAPI Adapter utility. The voices come from Windows 11 Insider builds. You need to go the Google Drive page whose link will be provided at the end, and grab both voice packages and REG packages from there. Unzip the voices into the C:\TTS folder (or edit the path in the reg files). You should have the following folders: C:\TTS\AndrewHD C:\TTS\AvaHD Add all the reg files from AvaHD_reg.zip and AndrewHD_reg.zip to the registry. They are called HD for a reason. They sound amazingly natural, though not as perfectly lively as their online counterparts, and each voice is about 230MB. This is my main issue with all the LLM ("AI") use. I don't even care if people use it for their own projects, but so many people use it to offload their critical thinking to maintainers.
If you use LLM to generate your code that someone else has to review you're not saving time, you're *offloading* the time you "saved" to the reviewer who has to figure out if it is correct.
*You* as *submitter* need to be sure it is correct. Using an LLM does not absolve you of your responsibility to research.

@archos jj, Pixel 10 začne po 300 cyklech snižovat výkon nabíjení, aby se šetřila baterie. V oficiální deklaraci pro EU mají životnost 1000 cyklů, zatímco třeba Samsung 2000. Nevím, proč používají citelně horší baterie než konkurence. Přitom ty mobily nejsou levné.
@archos @sesivany No a to se jim občas zadaří třeba tak, že celá série baterií je špatná a aktualizace softwaru způsobí, že baterie vydrží pár hodin. Ale je fakt, že se k tomu Google postavil celkem solidně (v rámci možností) a umožnil v některých regionech výměnu baterie, případně slevu na nákup nového telefonu, nebo (v mém případě) vrácení části zaplacené částky zpět.

It took me a year or so from decision to actually doing it. It's cool that favourites and playlists can be migrated using #TuneMyMusic for few dollars. But I had shared playlists with several people, I used the jam feature from time to time etc.. The social aspect of any service is always the best way to lock users in a one platform, and It worked on me also. But this situation of being a hostage somewhere is uncomfortable for me so much, that I did the switch finally. 🫂
Now I am in phase of discovery of the Tidal service. Maybe I will find some missing killer feature and I will return, but I am fully decided to give it proper trial. 😅
Spotify as a mainstream service has advantage of wide device support, that could be one of the challenges. 🤷
On the other hand I immediately liked, they have a DJ plan to allow you mix the music in supported DJ software. Sadly my favourite software @mixxx is not supported. 🎛️
I've been with Tidal for almost two years and I think the only missing killer feature is the ubiquity of Spotify Connect. My mom has a Lidl radio that only supports Spotify. But I solved it by a Bluetooth-to-jack device from Ali for 120 CZK. The audio quality is a big plus of Tidal. If you have a good DAC and speakers, you can hear the difference.
By the way, what also helped a bit with the switch is, that all podcasts started to monetize, thus on spotify there is always only a short preview version of the podcast. Full one is usally available as a user specific rss link. This pushed me to find separate podcast solution and I am much happier with the solution I found: #NextCloud + Gpodder sync plugin as synchronization server NextCloud + Podcasts plugin for web browser listening on desktop #AntennaPod for on the go listening on Android

We are collectively, responsible for so much harm to our world but individually we are responsible for the healing. Collectively we make change.
Oh, France! I somehow felt it even before I saw it in your profile. I had lots of small happy incidents like that here that warm my heart. Once a lady asked me to get for her a can of beer from a higher shelf in the supermarket because she is kind of tiny and I'm 186 centimeters. I'm blind, and I was with my wife, so my wife guided me a bit to find the necessary can, and the lady was super shy, like "I shouldn't have asked you, I shouldn't have bothered you" etc. And of course, I said "It's my eyes that don't work, not my arms, so I help you with my greatest pleasure!".
I'm a bit worried because my primary driver lives in the AUR from now on. But it will probably not change too often, so it will just faithfully do its work at every kernel update I guess.
Principle one of nonviolence- Fight injustice, not people. The people aren’t the problem — the problem is the problem. Try to approach conflict by solving the problem rather than attacking or blaming others.
Principle two of noniolence- Seek win-win solutions. Emphasize building long-term relationships over short-term “victories”. Let go of needing to be “right” all the time and try to get the bigger picture. Conflict makes us feel that in order for me to “win,” you have to lose. That is a delusion. In nonviolence we do not seek to be winners, or rise over others; we seek to learn and to make things better for everyone. The point is not to “win,” but to build relationships. Basic human needs are universal. At the heart of every conflict, a “win-win” solution is possible.
Principle three of nonviolence- Respect everyone, including yourself. Humiliation — making fun of someone — should never be used as a tool. Everyone deserves respect.
Principle four of Nonviolence- Nonviolence will always improve things down the line. Violence of any kind will always make things worse. Nonviolence always “works,” but not always in the ways we would imagine, whereas violence never works in the long run because it always leads to further violence.
Principle five of nonviolence- The means are as important, if not more so, than the ends. We do not have control over the final results of our actions. But we do have responsibility for the means we use, including our feelings and the state of our mind. If we want a positive, constructive result, we need to use positive, constructive means (as opposed to negative, destructive, violent means). Nonviolence will always produce a good result at some point down the road, even though we may not quite see the connection. Violent means never lead to positive, constructive ends.
Principle seven of nonviolence - Persuade, don’t coerce. In nonviolence, we never want to use force if we can avoid it. Since our efforts are based around trying to make things better for everyone, we use persuasion to help our opponent see the win-win solution.
Principle eight of nonviolence- Use discrimination. Never sacrifice your principles, but be ready to change tactics or compromise on details. Don’t cling to symbols. Be constructive wherever possible and obstructive only when necessary.
Principle nine of nonviolence- Realise interconnectedness. These principles come from, and help to sustain, a belief that all life is an interconnected whole and that any problem can be solved once its real nature is understood. In other words, once we understand our real needs we will find that they are not in competition with anyone else’s. As Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. And you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.”
