Shots fired by the flake8 maintainer.

We can have a nuanced discussion about the failures of flake8 etc, but you’ll still have to acknowledge that a VC-backed, non-Python project profited from decades of community work, & has sucked all air out of the space.

It’s not like I’m not using Ruff—but I do it begrudgingly & find the cheerleading around it baffling. It has practically destroyed a part of the ecosystem & it looks like nobody has seen the VC playbook play out.

@matt I do, and I think I can succinctly express my criticism:

Rust is harder to write & modify than Python. This makes it easier to maintain when you have high capital leverage so you can afford to spend more time(/money) overall.

Rust is definitionally not known to Python programmers. This makes it easier to maintain when you can use money to hire outside the community.

Rust has big benefits, but open projects rely on spare time & volunteers. Rust gives VCs the home court advantage.

If I'm understanding the OECD productivity by firm size report and the OECD GDP per hour chart, the entire income gap between Northern and Southern Europe is reducible to Southern Europe's outsize share of micro-firms and undersize share of large firms; large businesses are about equally productive in Northern and Southern Europe, but are 40-50% of the workforce here compared with 24% in Italy and 17% in Greece.

This is wrong because you are not identifying the subject of the image as a fascist, you are overwriting the <img> element role so it effectively becomes a <fascist> element. Also, there is no explicit text identification of the subject as a fascist.

A much better way to achieve the aim of identifying a fascist (and not misusing aria-roledescription):

Yes, but these are usually are not rendered in to virtual buffer or are not located within context, sometimes for the right reasons. Say, a description is generated on-focus. It will disappear as soon as the focus moves away. So, it sort of depends on the screen reader and OS, but the behaviour is inconsistent. A good exampleare automatically-generated image descriptions.

Desperately looking for a way to DIY our own Indomie seasoning from scratch because ‘export version Indomie’ (the ones sold outside Indonesia) are not as good as the original.

They’re just.. nowhere as spicy, or umami?! (The export version that says hot and spicy is closer than the normal one, but also has the same problem)

Sometimes when I post these things, American foodies are surprised. Why do countries with amazing food cultures (like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Taiwan) also love instant noodles, junk food and fast food?

The answer is: instant noodles, junk food and fast food taste better outside America and are of better quality. I will legitimately fit in a McDonalds meal in between great street food in Malaysia. This is always surprising to Americans

Had to go to Milan for a couple of days for bureaucratic matters, and I was greeted by the worst air quality I’ve experienced in years. I immediately got hit with massive cold-like symptoms that made me worry I got a third round of COVID even if I masked on every public transport—but all tests were negative and I got slightly better when indoors.

It’s amazing just how better the London air quality is, compared to Milan’s.

#AndroidAppRain at apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid today brings you 9 updated apps. No added apps, but 1 app had to be removed: AmbientMusicMod includes an enforced self-updater bypassing the screening performed in the IoD repo, and its author refused to make it opt-in or explain the implications.

2 apps will be removed tomorrow:

* Legado comes with too many proprietary components (ads, trackers) and their authors never responded to my reports
* Xsocks is dead, last release 2015, successor available

That said: DarQ and TapTap will be removed tomorrow as well. SIM Number Setter is the only app by Kieron not requesting the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission. But that has not seen any updates for 2 years now.

Finnish Interior Minister, Mari Rantanen (PS), is suggesting we'd have "welfare-detectives"

Her reasoning?

The welfare system's own statistics say there's very little fraud/misallocation among those receiving benefits, so the system itself "has to be faulty."

In essence, she wants the state to send authorities to spy on the poor (kinda like how insurance companies do) just for the sake of them being poor.

Maximizing a window can be done by

• dragging it to the top of the screen
• using a keyboard shortcut. Default is Super + ⬆️
• double click title bar
